Kaelen moved to the side with obvious reluctance, his body language screaming that he wanted to stay close. He positioned himself just a few paces away, close enough to intervene if needed.
My stepmother approached with calculated precision. Her appearance remained flawless despite the chaos that had just unfolded. Every strand of hair perfectly arranged, makeup untouched. She looked more like a statue than someone who had just witnessed her daughter attempt murder.
"You must be savoring this moment." Her tone carried a deceptive gentleness that made my skin crawl. "Watching your father grovel before the entire pack. Destroying what little respect we had left. Making our family look pathetic."
Her words twisted like a knife in my chest, but I felt nothing but contempt. The adrenaline from my confrontation with Daphne still coursed through my veins, giving me an unnatural clarity.
