Kaelen's POV
The mate bond snapped back like a whip cracking through the air.
One moment there was emptiness where she belonged. The next, pure terror crashed into me with the force of a freight train. Not my fear. Hers. Wild and primal and drowning in something that felt like death itself.
My body reacted before my mind processed what was happening. I shoved Brooks out of the way, ripped the car door open, and hauled him from the driver's seat. He crashed to the ground hard. I didn't spare him a glance.
I was already sliding behind the wheel, slamming the transmission into drive.
"Alpha Kaelen, what the hell—"
"Shut your mouth."
Brooks's protest died instantly. Good.
My foot crushed the accelerator. The limo lurched forward like a beast unleashed. Too slow. This luxury tank was built for comfort, not for emergencies, but I pushed it past every limit. The engine screamed in protest. Trees became green blurs outside the windows.
