Lyra's POV
Victor's business card felt like poison between my fingers. The elegant script of his name mocked me from the pristine white surface. Hours had passed since we left Willowbrook behind. Now we were deep in Ironfang territory, swallowed by darkness that pressed against the car windows like a living thing.
I flipped the card over and over, my mind racing. There had to be an angle here. Some way to turn this knowledge into a weapon. I held leverage somewhere in this twisted game. I just needed to figure out how to use it.
My first thought was Orion. After everything I'd done for him during the trial, he owed me a debt. Victor's interest in Daphne made her a valuable asset to monitor. But the idea crumbled before it fully formed. If anyone discovered Orion had helped me work against Victor or Daphne, they would kill him without hesitation.
His grandmother depended on him. I couldn't destroy that family for my own survival.
