Bianca's POV
The girl pressed her back against my chamber door after closing it. The soft click of the latch echoed through the silence. She looked like she wanted to melt into the wood and disappear completely.
Perfect. Fear suited her.
I kept my smile in place as I turned to face her directly. My voice came out light and conversational when I spoke.
"Someone called me a few hours ago." I paused, watching her face. "What they told me didn't fill me with the same pride I felt the night before."
She swallowed hard. I could see her throat work from across the room. "Oh." The word came out barely above a whisper. "Did they somehow figure out it wasn't an accident?"
"I was careful," she rushed to add. "I swear I was."
That word twisted something inside my chest. But I pushed the feeling down where it belonged.
"You weren't thorough enough to make sure the girl was actually dead."
