Genevieve's POV
The silence stretched long after Kaelen disappeared through the doorway.
I remained frozen in place, processing what had just happened between us. When I finally moved, my feet carried me to the dresser where my phone waited.
The screen lit up with Benedict's name.
Kaelen suspects something. Be careful. Eliminate all evidence. Messages, calls, everything.
I stared at those words until they blurred. My finger hovered over the delete button.
Suspects what exactly?
I ran through our recent conversation in my head. The way his eyes studied my face. How he kept physical space between us. That brief pause before he suggested I could stay here.
He hadn't seemed off though. If anything, he appeared genuinely worried about the coven situation. About what my father had decided. About my wellbeing.
Maybe that was exactly the problem.
Maybe his concern was calculated, and doubt was what really lived behind his careful words.
