Chapter 19 - ARC-1: AWAKENING

Chapter-19:The Thing That Looks Back

He came back.Of course he did.Raj stood outside the same door. The lower level felt colder tonight.

Quieter.Like something was waiting."…Devours."

The word lingered.Heavy.Unsettling.But not enough to stop him.Never enough. He pushed the door open.

—CREAK.Darkness welcomed him again.

But this time—It felt different. Not empty.

Watching.Raj stepped inside.Slow.Careful.

His senses sharpened instantly.Every sound.

Every shift in air.Every shadow.

The system flickered.

[Residual Energy Detected]

Stronger than before.Closer."…Good."Raj raised his hand.Focused.Not to steal. Not yet.

Just—To read.A thin thread formed.Connecting—

To the space itself.[Energy Reading: Deep Layer]

The moment it connected—Something changed.

The air—Stilled.Completely.Too still.

Raj's eyes narrowed.That's new.The thread pulsed.

Once.Twice.Then—PAUSE.Everything stopped.

No sound, No movement. Not even his breath.

For a split second—The world froze.

Then—Something moved. Not in front of him.

Not behind him.But—Inside the connection.

Raj felt it.A presence.Not human.Not corrupted.

Not system.Something else.Ancient.Heavy.Hungry.

"…So you're here."His voice didn't echo.It was swallowed.

The presence—Didn't respond.But—

It noticed.The thread trembled.

Violently.

[Unknown Entity Contact]

Raj's pupils shrank. For the first time—

A warning that felt real.Not system-generated.

Instinct.Pure instinct.Disconnect.

But—He didn't, Instead—He leaned in.

Focused deeper."…Show yourself."

The thread extended.Further.Deeper.

Into something—That shouldn't exist.

And then—It looked back.

Raj's body froze.Not physically.Mentally.Like something had locked onto him.Watching.

Measuring.Judging.

His vision flickered.

Darkness—

Then—Eyes.Not physical.Not visible.But there.

Countless.Endless.Staring at him.

"…What are you…?"The question barely formed.

The response—Wasn't words.

It was—Hunger, Raw.Overwhelming.

The thread snapped—But not by Raj.By it.

—SNAP.The connection reversed.Violently.

Energy surged back.Into him.Uncontrolled.

Too much.Too fast.

Raj's body jerked."…Tch—!"His knees hit the ground.

Hard.The system exploded with warnings.

[Overload]

[Foreign Entity Influence Detected]

[Stability: Critical]

His vision blurred.Dark and Red.

Then—Something else.Not his thoughts.

Not his voice.Consume.

Raj's eyes widened."…No."For the first time—

Fear.Not of death.But—Of losing himself.

The energy inside him twisted.Different from corrupted.Heavier, Deeper. It didn't flow.

It pressed.Like it wanted to stay.To root.

To grow."…Get out."His voice came out low.

Strained.His body trembled.Control slipping.

The system flickered rapidly.

Trying to stabilize.But—It couldn't.Not fully.

Raj gritted his teeth.Control it.Like before.

Like always.Not force.Not panic.Control.

He forced his breathing steady.Slow.Measured.

Even as the pressure built.Even as the presence lingered.Watching.Waiting.His grip tightened against the ground."…This is mine."A statement.A claim.

Not request.Not plea.For a moment—

Nothing happened.Then—The pressure shifted.

Slightly.Just enough.The presence pulled back.

Not gone.But—Interested.The energy stabilized.

Barely.

The system flickered.

Slower now.

[Assimilation… Partial]

[Unknown Trait Acquired]

Raj collapsed forward.Breathing hard.Sweat cold.

Body heavy."…That was…"Different.Dangerous.

But—Not useless. He slowly pushed himself up.

Unsteady.But standing.His eyes—Changed.

Just for a second.Darker.Deeper.Then—

Normal."…It can push back."A realization.

Important.Critical.This wasn't like corrupted.

Not like people.This—Was something else.

He looked at his hand.A faint distortion flickered around it.Then vanished."…Good."A small smile.

Despite everything.Despite the risk."…That means it's real."Behind him—A voice."…You're insane."

Raj turned slightly. The Null-Type stood at the door.

Watching.For once—Not calm.Not neutral.Concerned."…You connected to it."

A statement.Sharp.

Raj nodded once."…Yes.""…And you're still standing."Not disbelief.But—Warning.

Raj smirked faintly."…Barely."

Silence.Then—"…You shouldn't have done that."

The Null-Type stepped closer"…That thing doesn't just take."A pause."…It marks."Raj's eyes narrowed.

"…Marks?"The Null-Type looked at him directly.

"…It noticed you."Silence, Heavy.

Raj exhaled slowly.Then—He smiled.

Cold and Sharp."…Good."The Null-Type frowned slightly."…You don't understand."Raj turned fully now.Eyes steady."…No."A pause.

"…I do."His voice dropped slightly."…And I still chose it."Silence.Long.Then—The Null-Type stepped back.

"…Then don't die."A rare statement.Almost… human.Raj didn't reply.He looked back into the darkness.Where the presence had been.Where it still was.Somewhere.Watching.Waiting.

"…I won't."Not confidence.Not arrogance.Just—

Decision.Because now—It wasn't just him hunting power.Something else—Had started hunting him.

And Raj—Was ready.
