The world felt… wrong.
Not broken.
Not destroyed.
But changed.
The sky had returned to normal.
No cracks.
No crimson light.
No sign of what had just happened.
And yet Danny couldn't shake the feeling.
Something had started.
Something irreversible.
"…The beginning of the end."
Abby's words echoed in his head.
He slowly pushed himself up from the ground, his body still shaking slightly.
"…You really don't know how to say comforting things, do you?"
Abby didn't respond.
She was still staring at him.
That same look.
Serious.
Focused.
Like she wasn't looking at Danny anymore—
But something inside him.
---
"…Stop looking at me like that," he muttered.
"…Like what?" she asked quietly.
"Like I'm some kind of problem."
A pause.
Then—
"Because you are."
Danny flinched slightly.
Not physically.
But mentally.
That one hit.
Silence settled between them.
Heavy.
Unavoidable.
"…Explain it," he said finally.
No hesitation this time.
No hesitation left.
"…Everything."
Abby exhaled slowly.
Then looked up at the sky.
"…What you did just now…"
A pause.
"…Wasn't normal."
"…Yeah, I figured that much."
"You didn't just stop it," she continued. "You interrupted it."
Danny frowned.
"…That doesn't sound different."
"It is," she said.
Her eyes shifted back to him.
Sharp.
"Stopping something is force."
A step closer.
"Interrupting it… is authority."
Danny froze.
"…Authority…?"
Abby nodded slightly.
"…The Rift isn't just a gateway."
"It's a system."
"It connects worlds, balances them, regulates them."
A pause.
Then—
"And you just interfered with that system."
Danny's chest tightened.
"…I didn't mean to."
"I know."
"…Then why does it feel like that doesn't matter?"
Abby didn't answer.
Because it didn't.
A faint breeze passed through the broken remains of the area.
The silence that followed felt… unnatural.
Like something was missing.
"…That thing," Danny said after a moment. "The one I saw…"
Abby's expression shifted slightly.
"…You saw something?"
"…Yeah."
He hesitated.
Trying to piece it together.
"…Everything stopped."
"…And then there was… someone."
A pause.
"…Watching me."
Abby went completely still.
"…Describe it."
Danny shook his head slightly.
"I couldn't see clearly."
"…But it wasn't like the others."
"…It wasn't attacking."
"…It just stood there."
Another pause.
His voice lowered.
"…And then it smiled."
Silence.
Total.
Absolute.
Abby's eyes widened slightly.
Just slightly.
But enough.
"…That's not possible…"
Danny frowned.
"…You know what that is?"
She didn't answer immediately.
Then—
Very slowly—
She spoke.
"That's not something that should be able to appear yet."
Danny blinked.
"…You keep saying that."
"…'Shouldn't be here yet.'"
"…'Shouldn't exist yet.'"
He stepped closer.
"…What does that even mean?"
Abby looked at him.
This time—
There was no hesitation.
No holding back.
"It means the timeline is breaking."
Danny's mind went blank.
"…Timeline…?"
Abby nodded.
"…Things are happening out of order."
"…Faster than they're supposed to."
"…Earlier than they're supposed to."
A pause.
Then—
"Because of you."
Danny clenched his fists.
"…So everything just comes back to me, huh?"
"…Right now? Yes."
Another silence.
But this one—
Was different.
Not fear.
Not confusion.
Something heavier.
"…Then tell me how to fix it."
Abby blinked.
"…What?"
"If I'm the problem," Danny said, his voice steady now, "then tell me how to fix it."
A pause.
"…There has to be a way."
Abby stared at him.
Longer this time.
Studying him.
Not his power.
Not the Rift.
But him.
"…You don't even understand what you're asking," she said quietly.
"Then explain it."
"You could die."
A beat.
"…Then I die."
That answer—
Was too fast.
Too honest.
Too real.
Abby's expression shifted again.
Something unreadable.
Something… emotional.
But it vanished just as quickly.
"…There's no fixing this right now," she said finally.
"…Only delaying it."
Danny exhaled slowly.
"…Then we delay it."
A faint sound echoed in the distance.
Sirens.
Far away.
But coming closer.
Danny glanced toward the road.
"…More people are coming."
"Not just people," Abby said.
His stomach dropped.
"…You mean—?"
"They felt it too."
The air shifted again.
Subtle.
But enough.
Danny felt it immediately.
"…No way…"
Abby's eyes narrowed.
"…We don't have time."
Before he could ask She grabbed his arm again.
"Wait—what now?!"
"We leave."
"…Again?!"
"You want to stay and explain this to whoever shows up?" she shot back.
"…Good point."
They moved quickly.
Leaving behind the destroyed remains of his home.
Of his normal life.
For real this time.
As they ran Danny glanced back.
Just once.
At what was left.
"…Guess that's it…"
No answer.
Because there was nothing left to say.
But far above—
Beyond what either of them could see Something was watching.
Again.
Not the creature.
Not the eye from before.
Something else.
Something quieter.
More patient.
And this time It spoke.
Not to them.
Not directly.
But into the space between worlds.
"It has begun."
And somewhere far away Something responded.
"Then let the game continue."
To Be Continued.
