Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Aetherion Academy

The noise of battle was gone.

Only silence remained.

Kael stood among the survivors, his eyes moving slowly across the clearing. The ground was damaged from the fight—broken soil, scattered weapons, and marks left behind by the final clashes.

No one was fighting anymore.

They only stood there.

Some alone.

Some in small groups.

All of them looked tired.

Their clothes were torn, their bodies covered in dust and sweat. Even those who tried to stand straight could not fully hide their exhaustion.

Aren rolled his shoulder and let out a quiet breath. His clothes were dirty and scratched, but he still had a relaxed look on his face. "So… that's it?"

Lyra stood beside him, her posture steady. A faint mark of dirt rested on her cheek, and a few strands of her hair had fallen loose, but her eyes were still sharp as she looked around.

Draven stood a short distance away, his figure calm and still. His face showed little emotion, but his eyes were focused, watching everything carefully.

Kael said nothing.

His expression stayed calm.

Not many made it this far.

A figure stepped forward near the center.

The moment he moved, everyone noticed.

"All candidates," he said in a calm voice, "you have completed the second trial."

No one spoke.

"You will now be taken to Aetherion Academy."

A soft light appeared under their feet.

Kael felt it at once.

It didn't hurt.

It just pulled.

The world around him blurred—

Then changed.

The forest disappeared.

Kael's vision became clear again.

He now stood on solid stone.

Before him rose something massive.

Aetherion Academy.

Tall towers stretched high into the sky, covered with faint glowing lines that slowly moved across their surface. Large buildings spread across the land, connected by wide stone paths where students walked calmly.

Their clothes were clean and well-made.

Robes, uniforms, light armor—each one looked carefully designed.

Very different from the group that had just arrived.

Aren looked around and gave a low whistle. "Yeah… this place is huge."

Lyra studied the surroundings carefully. "The mana here feels stable… easier to control."

Kael understood.

The energy in this place felt calm and steady, unlike the wild feeling in the forest.

Draven stepped forward slightly, his eyes narrowing. "…This place is not simple."

They were guided forward along a wide path. No one stopped them, but the direction was clear. Other candidates moved with them, all heading toward a large open area ahead.

When they arrived, they saw many others already gathered.

Everyone looked the same.

Tired.

Alert.

Watching.

Kael's eyes moved across the crowd.

Some looked confident.

Some looked nervous.

Some stayed quiet and observed everything.

Strong ones are here too.

At the front stood several figures.

They were different.

Their clothes were clean and refined, and they stood without any sign of fatigue.

One of them stepped forward.

An older man.

His hair was short and gray, and his face showed clear signs of age, with fine lines near his eyes and around his mouth. His skin was pale, but not weak, and his posture was straight and steady.

What stood out the most—

Were his eyes.

Calm.

Sharp.

And steady enough to make people lower their gaze without realizing it.

When he looked at the crowd, the area grew quiet.

"Welcome to Aetherion Academy," he said.

No one spoke.

"Those who stand here have passed the second trial."

A short pause followed.

"Not everyone who entered the trial made it this far."

The words were simple.

But heavy.

Aren let out a quiet breath. "…Yeah, I figured."

Lyra stayed silent.

Draven didn't react.

Kael kept watching.

"You have shown that you meet the basic requirement," the man continued. "From this moment, you are no longer candidates."

Another short pause.

"You are now students of Aetherion Academy."

A quiet reaction spread through the crowd.

Some relaxed slightly.

Others grew more serious.

Because they understood—

This was not the end.

"You will be assigned rooms," the man said. "Further instructions will be given soon."

That was all.

No long explanation.

No extra words.

Just a clear result.

You passed.

Now it begins.

Kael looked around again.

At the buildings.

At the students.

At the people watching them.

This place felt completely different.

This was where people became stronger.

Aren smiled slightly. "So… we're really in."

Lyra nodded. "Yes."

Draven remained silent.

Kael looked forward.

Calm.

Focused.

This is only the beginning.

And this time—

He would not hold back forever.
