Chapter 3 - Whispers

Whispers: ********

Utbah felt that there was a person or something trying to pull him out of the dream world.

Whispers: Wake u***.

Utbah: Shut up, old man, I want to sleep.

Whispers: Wake up.

The voices that were speaking exploded loudly, until their echo began to reverberate in his head.

Utbah: Alright, alright, I woke up, what do you want?

Whispers: That old man will cause us danger in the future, we must kill him.

Utbah: What are you talking about? He doesn't seem that strong.

Whispers: We must kill him to achieve our goals.

Utbah: Fine, in both cases I won't lose anything. Anyway, it seems he has some useful items.

He grabbed a rock the size of his hand and approached the old man carefully and quietly, raising the hand holding the rock, declaring the moment of the old man's execution.

Thak.

Everything went silent. Utbah heard nothing except the sound of the rock hitting something solid, but it wasn't the sound of bones breaking, rather it hit the ground.

Utbah: Wha-

In moments, Utbah saw himself lifted from the ground, but he wasn't flying by his will, it was Cain's right hand gripping his neck and lifting him up.

Utbah: Torn gasp.

Cain said mockingly: You really thought you could kill me with this small rock, how pitiful.

Cain's grip tightened, his fingers became like iron from their strength, and he looked at Utbah with cold and bored eyes. Utbah's face turned pale, his eyes searching for the angels he was waiting for.

Whispers: You still have the dagger, stab him and run.

He smoothly pulled out the dagger and tried to stab Cain, but before it reached him, Cain slammed Utbah to the ground with such force, as if the whole sky shook from the impact.

Utbah: Cough.

Utbah's fighting spirit faded, the desire to fight disappeared, and it accepted its fate.

Utbah: Wai-

Before he could ask for a truce, Cain's excited fist reached the side of his chest, and Utbah heard the sound of his ribcage shattering. Every part of his body screamed from the pain.

Utbah: Aaaaaaaaa.

He screamed from the intensity of the pain, as if there was a hole in the side of his chest.

Cain: Weak, but you have some skill in deceiving others, interesting.

Cain released Utbah's neck and took a cup of hot tea.

Cain: It seems that the one in charge of that library was telling the truth. There is something interesting here. Goodbye, Utbah. You can take whatever you want from my belongings, I no longer need them. Head north, you will find a kingdom. He said these words and left.

Utbah tried to shout back at the severe insult, but his injury only allowed him to breathe with difficulty.

Utbah, angrily with a trembling voice: cough, cough, damn you arrogant bastard.

Whispers: I should have expected this. He is not the type to help others, it seems he anticipated our arrival.

Utbah: Why didn't he kill me?

Whispers: You are nothing but a fly buzzing around him, why would he bother killing you?

Utbah boiled with anger: just a fly? Are you kidding me? I am the hero of heroes whose name will be immortalized in history for decades, and he saw me as just a fly.

Whispers: Calm down. Your story is still at the beginning. Now get up and see what he left for you.

Utbah: Damn .

He tried to stand, but felt intense pain, like hundreds of knives entering all parts of his body.

He clenched his teeth from the pain: Fuck.

He opened the bags that Cain left and found tea leaves, arrows, a bow, many gold coins, a sword, and a painkiller.

Whispers: It seems he left many useful items.

Utbah sighed and said: it seems so.

Utbah drank the painkiller, its taste was bitter and bad, like spoiled milk. Then he prepared the sword, arrows, and the rest of the equipment to begin his journey north.

Utbah: Alright, let's head to the kingdom.

With his long steps, he felt the desert breeze dancing on his face, and a yellow sun burning his head. He had to find something as quickly as possible, since he hadn't drunk water for hours. He raised his head and saw a strange flying creature above him.

Utbah: Qata.

A flock of qata birds flying above him.

Utbah: If I follow them, I will find an oasis or a pond.

Utbah followed the qata birds. He was fast, but to survive, he had to catch up with them as quickly as possible, even if his ribcage shattered to pieces.

Utbah: Oh God.

He looked at an island floating in the yellow sea called the desert, with palm trees full of dates and a blue pond like the color of the sky. Utbah approached the pond and drank from it, feeling life flowing inside him.

Utbah: Refreshing.

He pulled an arrow from behind his back and tried to hunt some birds, but only caught one.

Utbah: Seems I have a meal for tonight.

He filled some water for the journey, took some branches, and continued north. At night, he lit a fire to protect himself from wolves, and ate a small part of the bird to last for the long journey, and dug a small hole to sleep in.

Utbah: Alright, looks good.

He buried his lower body to protect from the cold and looked at the fire dancing above the branches, but there were two sharp eyes watching him.

Utbah: Damn, wolves.

Three wolves appeared before the injured prey, easy to devour. Utbah pulled his sword from its sheath and grabbed a flame from the fire with his left hand. Two of them attacked him, he slashed with his sword, hitting one, and avoided the other. A third wolf attacked him to defend its companions, Utbah threw the flame at it to burn it.

Utbah screamed loudly: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

He declared to the wolves that he is the predator here. The wolves howled in fear and fled, and Utbah knelt because of the pain in his chest.

Utbah: I must continue my way quickly to the kingdom, but I will rest a little.

He rested for some time, then continued his journey, walking endless miles, and found a sheep moving alone.

Utbah: If there is a sheep here, that means I am close to a kingdom.

He saw the sheep's tracks before they scattered and knew where he should go.

After walking for miles, he noticed a desert city surrounded by golden sand, its buildings with large domes of warm orange colors, and it had towers and huge luxurious palaces.

Utbah gripped his sword with excitement and said: So here my heroic story will begin.
