Chapter 178 - Chapter 178: There Is a Traitor Among Us

René and Lacus bowed to Crowley.

"Lord Crowley."

Crowley nodded and began walking back.

"My mission is complete. I'm going back to change my clothes; the blood on these two Vampires smells terrible."

Yuichiro noticed Lacus was holding a rope. Following the rope with his eyes, Yuichiro's pupils constricted, and his hand immediately went to his hilt, poised to draw his blade.

Lacus was quick to react, pressing down on Yuichiro's hand while simultaneously handing him the rope.

"This has nothing to do with me, Lord Urd did this! This man actually made quite a contribution last night, I didn't do anything to them. We're leaving now!"

After saying that, Lacus pulled René along and headed back.

The other end of the rope was tied to four people—the four members of the Guren Squad who had been captured earliest.

"Colonel!"

Shihō Kimizuki stepped forward to check on them.

"We're fine. The girls are just a bit weak and haven't woken up yet."

Goshi Norito chuckled, clearly putting on a brave face.

At least they were all alive. Yuichiro and Kimizuki finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Let's get out of here first!"

The two quickly left with the four weakened comrades... In Sanguinem, Rig was the first to open his eyes, followed by the other Progenitors, their eyes filled with disbelief.

Krul Tepes and Luke were also among them.

Of course, as the one linking everyone, Rig knew that Luke and Krul had withdrawn midway. However, since Luke was somewhat mysterious, he didn't mention it.

"Why didn't I have an angel moment?"

Guren sounded a bit regretful.

Luke naturally placed a hand on Guren's shoulder to comfort him.

"Don't be sad, I didn't have one either."

Lest Karr explained.

"Those were the Progenitors who followed the Progenitor from the very beginning. Aside from Lord Rig and Lord Urd, the others are all Third Progenitors."

Guren nodded. He knew that long ago, the Progenitor had taken a group of Progenitors away and then abandoned the Vampire race, though he didn't know why Krul and Lest Karr had been left behind.

Urd walked up to Rig and just looked at him without speaking.

Rig nodded slightly.

"Yes, it seems we have wronged the Progenitor. Let's lock him up first; we need to discuss our next move."

The Vampires responsible for patrolling Sanguinem had returned to their posts. Rig didn't see his own subordinates, and while he found it strange, Krul's subordinates were just as usable.

Rig summoned two Vampires to take the Progenitor away.

"Yes! René, Crowley, come help."

Lacus, René, and Crowley combined their strength to carry away the specialized cage holding the Progenitor.

Krul noticed something was wrong. Since when did this kind of manual labor require Upper-ranking Vampires?

Looking at Luke, he secretly gave her a peace sign.

As expected, this guy was behind it. Where were Rig's and the others' subordinates?

"Wait a minute!"

Urd spoke up. Lacus and the other two were startled and turned around.

Urd frowned, pointing at the cage in the distant corner.

"Where are the humans from there?"

Oh, he's not talking about us. Scared me to death.

Lacus and the other two hurriedly left with the Progenitor's cage. In a blind spot where no one noticed, the Demonic Sword Kyle slipped into the iron cage with the Progenitor and was taken away as well.

"Why did those humans escape while we were checking the memories! Where are our subordinates?"

Lest Karr felt this was a provocation to the Vampires, a provocation to the Progenitors!

Rig glanced at Luke.

"Forget it, those humans are useless now. Even Yu's sin key was stolen by the Progenitor long ago."

After seeing the Progenitor's memories, everyone present understood the importance of the sin keys.

Now that Rig mentioned the sin key again, Urd took the opportunity to suggest that Rig should not be the one to keep it.

As lower ranks, Lest Karr and Guren didn't want to offend either side, though both leaned toward Urd.

But Rig didn't even have the sin key anymore; it had all been snatched away by that bandit, Luke!

"I've told you, I don't have the sin key on me."

However, that excuse was no longer working. Urd seemed determined to find out the location of the sin key this time.

After all, it was a necessity for resurrecting all the angels.

Just as Rig was about to say more, a group of Vampires ran in.

"Where did you go? If you had been here, the humans wouldn't have escaped!"

Lest Karr frowned; the Vampires who arrived were indeed their subordinates.

One of the Vampires stepped forward, bowed, looked at the empty cage, and reported nervously.

"Lord... our people were originally on standby in the area assigned to us last night. We unknowingly fell asleep and everyone had dreams. We only just woke up and rushed here immediately."

"Vampires oversleeping, and a collective oversleeping at that? Is this an illusion technique?"

Lest Karr quickly reached a conclusion after hearing this.

Hmm?

Urd seemed to remember something. He recalled that among the humans interrogated earlier, one was very skilled in illusions; even he had almost been caught when that person was being restrained.

"Go to the dungeon and see if the people inside are still there."

News was brought back quickly.

"Lord, there are only a few Vampires in the dungeon who were punished recently. I asked them, and they were in the same situation as us; when they woke up, the people were gone."

Urd let out a cold snort, his gaze sweeping over all the Vampires present.

"I tortured them until they were half-dead; they couldn't have had the ability to escape on their own."

At that moment, two more Vampires ran in.

"Lord, the guards at the exit have been killed. Their brains were destroyed; it wasn't done with a cursed gear."

Guren's face showed some excitement.

"Ah, it looks like it was done by one of our own. Who could the traitor be? Lord Lest Karr? Princess Krul? Or perhaps Mr. Luke?"

Luke responded with a smile.

"Is Lord Guren trying to exclude himself? That's a bit suspicious~"

Lest Karr sneered, crossing his arms over his chest as he looked at Krul playfully.

"This is Krul's territory after all. Why were only her people present when we woke up?"

Krul stood with one hand on her hip, looking unperturbed. Instead, she mocked him.

"Since you know it's my territory, behave yourself! My people are only these few on patrol; everyone else has been sent out by me."

Lest Karr wasn't angry this time; he simply thought Krul was bluffing after being called out, though the number of Krul's subordinates he saw yesterday was indeed significantly lower.

Tap tap tap.

The sound of hurried footsteps approached, and a Vampire ran in frantically.

"Lord Krul, the situation in Shibuya has become even more serious!"

Rig was somewhat confused. Hadn't the Imperial Demon Army in Shibuya already been wiped out? The remaining humans kept as livestock shouldn't pose a threat.

"Krul, what happened in Shibuya?"

Krul rubbed her temples.

"Subordinates stationed in Shibuya reported disappearances among our people with no clues found. To regain control and rebuild Shibuya as quickly as possible, I sent more people. Tell us if there are any new discoveries."

The Vampire nodded.

"Fortunately, Lady Krul and Lady Feng also went. The culprit is a humanoid monster—our people were swallowed! However, it was discovered when it tried to ambush Lady Krul, and she was injured because of it. The monster escaped."

Eating Vampires?

Luke thought of an old friend.
