Chapter 12 - Ch. 11 Orphanage

The orphanage was quieter than I expected.

Not silent… but different.

The laughter here wasn't as carefree as the park. It felt softer, more restrained—as if the children had learned early not to expect too much.

The moment we entered, all eyes turned toward us.

Curiosity.

Caution.

A hint of distance.

My parents greeted the caretaker and began arranging everything—food, small gifts, and donations in my name.

So this was their plan.

Not just to celebrate…

But to give.

I stood there for a moment, observing the children.

Different ages. Different expressions.

Some excited. Some hesitant.

Some just watching from afar.

…Interesting.

Before things became awkward, I stepped forward

The moment I stepped forward, the atmosphere was still a little stiff.

The children were watching me… measuring me.

New face.

New clothes.

Different.

Yeah… I could already see the invisible line.

Sigh.

Time to break it.

I picked up a bright red ball from the pile of toys and held it up.

"Let's play!" I said, my voice full of excitement.

Then—

I threw it.

Not too fast. Not too slow.

Perfectly aimed at a boy standing nearby.

He fumbled for a second… then caught it.

Silence.

One second.

Two seconds.

"…Throw back!" I said, jumping slightly like an impatient child.

He blinked… then threw it back.

Caught it.

Grinned.

And just like that—

The game started.

Within minutes, more kids joined in.

What began as a simple throw-and-catch turned into full chaos.

Someone missed the ball.

Someone tripped.

Someone started laughing for no reason.

And suddenly—

Everyone was running.

I joined them, of course.

Carefully.

I ran with uneven steps, occasionally slowing down, even pretending to almost fall once—just enough to look natural.

Inside?

Perfect balance.

Perfect control.

One kid tried to grab the ball too aggressively and bumped into another.

Conflict incoming.

I immediately jumped in between them, holding the ball up high.

"My turn!" I declared loudly.

Distraction successful.

Attention shifted.

Crisis avoided.

…Honestly, managing kids was easier than I expected.

Soon, the game evolved again.

We moved to the swings.

I deliberately waited my turn, even though I could've taken it easily.

Patience builds trust.

When I finally sat on the swing, I kicked my legs forward—

"Higher! Higher!" I shouted, laughing.

One of the older kids pushed me.

Too hard.

I swung forward—

Then quickly adjusted my balance mid-air.

From the outside: lucky.

From the inside: calculated.

I laughed again, louder this time.

Sell the moment.

Then came the slide.

A small group gathered at the top, arguing about who goes first.

I climbed slowly, acting unsure.

Once I reached the top, I sat down and paused dramatically.

They watched.

I looked down… then back at them.

And then—

"Wheeeeeee!" I shouted as I slid down.

Overacting?

Absolutely.

Effective?

Completely.

The kids burst into laughter.

One by one, they followed.

Now there was no order.

No hesitation.

Just pure, chaotic fun.

After a while, I noticed something.

That one quiet kid from before—

Now running.

Laughing.

Playing with the others.

Good.

Mission accomplished.

From a distance, my parents stood still, watching everything.

I slowed down slightly, breathing lightly like a tired child.

Sweat. Messy hair. Slightly uneven steps.

Perfect image.

But inside—

Everything was clear.

Every movement.

Every reaction.

Every outcome.

Controlled.

And yet…

As I laughed along with the others, something felt… different.

Not calculated.

Not planned.

Just… simple.

For a brief moment—

I wasn't thinking ahead.

I wasn't analyzing.

I was just…

Playing.

…Strange.

But not unpleasant.

One word.

Safe. Childish. Effective.

Within time,

the atmosphere began to shift.

More children joined.

Laughter grew louder.

Barriers lowered.

I kept my behavior balanced—playing, running, occasionally acting clumsy just enough to fit in.

But at the same time, I guided things subtly.

Sharing toys. Including quieter kids. Preventing small fights before they started.

Control… without being seen.

Parents situation

Their expressions slowly changed.

The worry from yesterday…

Was gone.

Replaced by something warmer.

Pride.

Relief.

And maybe… a little surprise.

Then—

A familiar voice echoed in my mind.

Two hundred points…

That meant—

I was getting closer.

Very close.

The locked shop flashed briefly in my mind.

Still out of reach…

But not for long.

I looked around again.

The children were smiling now.

Laughing freely.

My parents… finally at ease.

Sigh.

Today was… successful.

Not because of the system.

Not because of the rewards.

But because—

For the first time…

Everything aligned perfectly.
