Chapter 84 - The Anchor in the Storm

The safehouse felt different tonight. The tension that had lived in the corners of the room for weeks was gone, replaced by a quiet, hummed melody from the speakers and the scent of rain-washed jasmine. We had left the police, the lawyers, and the ghosts of The Sector behind.

Alexandra stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out at the city lights. She had changed into a silk robe, her hair damp from the shower. I walked up behind her, sliding my arms around her waist. She leaned back into me, a long, tired sigh escaping her lips.

"I keep waiting for the phone to ring," she whispered, her hands covering mine. "I keep waiting for another 'Principal' or another 'Auditor' to tell me the dream is over."

I turned her around in my arms, forcing her to look at me. "The dream isn't over, Alexandra. The nightmare is. You aren't a CEO tonight. You aren't an 'Ice Queen.' You're just a woman who fought for her life and won."

I reached out, my fingers tracing the delicate line of her jaw. I could see the reflection of the city lights in her dark eyes, but more than that, I saw a heat that made my breath hitch. I leaned down, my lips grazing hers in a kiss that started as a whisper and turned into a roar.

She pulled me closer, her fingers tangling in my hair, her body molding against mine with a hunger that words couldn't describe. I lifted her onto the edge of the dark oak table, my hands sliding up to cup her face as the kiss deepened.

"Stay with me," she breathed against my lips, her voice thick with a passion that was finally, truly free. "No more running. No more fighting. Just stay."

"I'm right here," I promised, my voice a low growl. "I'm not going anywhere."

I swept the scattered papers off the table—the old contracts, the legal notes, the reminders of our fake life—letting them flutter to the floor like autumn leaves. They didn't matter anymore. The only thing that mattered was the warmth of her skin, the sound of her heart racing against mine, and the reality of a love that had survived the fire.

As I carried her toward the bedroom, the moonlight caught the two platinum bands on our fingers. We had started this as a business deal, but we were ending the night as soulmates.
