Chapter 85 - The Morning of a King

The morning light didn't just filter through the curtains of the safehouse; it seemed to dance on the silk sheets, celebrating the first day of our new life. I woke up with Alexandra's head on my chest, her dark hair silken against my skin. The "Ice Queen" was fast asleep, her breathing slow and deep, her hand draped over my heart as if she were making sure I was still there.

I stayed still, not wanting to break the spell. A few months ago, I was a man with a sick brother and a desperate plan. Now, I was the man who had dismantled a corporate empire's secrets to save the woman I loved.

I reached out, my fingers tracing the line of her shoulder, my touch as light as a feather. She stirred, a small, sleepy moan escaping her lips as she snuggled closer to me.

"Is the world still there?" she whispered, her voice husky and full of the passion from the night before.

"The world is still there," I said, leaning down to kiss the top of her head. "But it's waiting for us this time. We aren't running anymore, Alexandra."

She opened her eyes, and the warmth I saw there was enough to melt any lingering shadows. She reached up, her fingers tangling in my hair, pulling me down for a slow, deep morning kiss that tasted of caffeine and forever.

"I don't want to go to the office," she breathed against my lips. "I don't want to see a single lawyer or a single board member."

"Then don't," I said, my hand sliding down the curve of her back. "Let them wait. Let them wonder where the Queen is. Today, the Queen is with her King."

She laughed, a bright, genuine sound that I wanted to bottle up and keep forever. She rolled over, pinning me to the bed, her eyes dark with a playful fire. "A King? Is that what you are now? I thought you were just a 'Hidden Husband.'"

"I think I've earned a promotion," I teased, my hands resting on her hips.

"I think you've earned everything," she whispered, her face softening as she leaned down to kiss me again.

But as the romance intensified, a low, rhythmic thudding started outside. It wasn't rain. It wasn't a car. It sounded like... chanting?

I frowned, sitting up and pulling a robe on. I walked to the balcony and pushed the heavy glass doors open. My jaw dropped.

Below us, the entire staff of the company—the secretaries, the security guards, the drivers—were standing in the driveway. They weren't there to protest. They were holding up signs that said: "Long Live the Queen" and "Welcome Home, Xavier." Chinedu stood at the front, a massive grin on his face. He looked up and saw me.

"The Chief is behind bars, Boss!" he shouted. "The board has voted! It's time to come home!"

Alexandra stepped out onto the balcony beside me, wrapping her silk robe tight. She looked at the crowd, then at me, her eyes brimming with tears. This wasn't a corporate merger. This was a family.

"I think our private morning just ended," she whispered, leaning her head on my shoulder.

"Maybe," I said, pulling her close. "But our life is just beginning."
