It's a type of humanoid weapon; it looks like a human, but it's actually a monster. Just look at this data file, and you'll understand how dangerous your situation is." Eddie gestured for her to come to the computer.
On the computer was a combat video of Tyrant Zero Two's prototype, showing it could pierce thirty-centimeter thick reinforced concrete with its claws. A Tyrant, devoid of pain, was the perfect weapon.
"That doctor is researching this kind of thing?" Caroline asked, confused.
"Exactly. This is a project that both Umbrella and the Allied military are researching. However, the military has always been excluded from the project research. They know these things exist but don't know the specific progress or results," Eddie nodded.
"But what's the purpose of these things?" Caroline was very puzzled.
"To replace human soldiers in harsh conditions, or to execute special tactical operations, reducing soldier casualties. Anyway, just use humanitarian rhetoric to explain its benefits," Eddie shrugged, as if he had long seen through their excuses.
"What do you need me to do?" Caroline looked at Eddie, frowning slightly. If these monsters were unleashed, it would undoubtedly be a disaster.
"I need you to stay alive. Tell me if anything important happens. Your power is a bit weak, so I'll enhance you to make you stronger. Don't worry, you'll still be human, not a monster, afterward. I've been enhanced too," Eddie chuckled.
"May I ask you something? What exactly do you want to do?" Caroline's expression became very serious. This answer would determine whether she would follow Eddie's instructions.
"I want revenge, to bring down Umbrella, and Spencer, its chairman. I want him to pay the price he deserves. He ordered his subordinates to kill my uncle, Marcus, and then used a serum to turn him into a monster. After dealing with them, I want to pursue immortality, to live longer while staying young. What do you think, am I a madman?" Eddie scoffed.
Caroline shook her head, "No, I believe you. Your eyes tell me you're not lying. I'm willing to help you!"
Chapter 151: Watch Out for Pregnancy, Buddy
After Emma's enhancement, she was still a bit dazed when she stepped out of the cryo-chamber. She felt very hungry and disoriented. She had slept for a long time, and her mind hadn't fully cleared, but power surged through her body, and the feeling was fantastic.
"Awake? Have some food. Eat more so you can recover. Don't be shy or reserved; being able to eat is a blessing," Eddie handed her the food.
Emma nodded and began to devour the food. At first, she was a bit shy and lady-like, but as she ate, she let go, driven by hunger, continuously devouring it.
Finally, Emma ate fifty pounds of food. These hamburgers and steaks were all digested by her powerful digestive system and converted into energy.
"How do you feel?" Eddie asked.
"Very good!" Emma looked at her arm; all the old scars were gone. She felt as if she could punch a cow to death.
"Then you should get used to it first. I still need today to enhance another person. Robert won't blame me for 'kidnapping' you for a few days, will he?" Eddie teased.
"Hmph, he wouldn't. You're smiling so wickedly, you big bad guy. You have to take responsibility, for twenty years!" Emma wiggled two slender fingers.
"Of course, I'm a responsible person. Not just twenty years, but two hundred years. You should get used to it first; your strength has increased, and it does require adjustment. I'm going to take care of some things," Eddie smiled and shook his head.
Two days later, Caroline's enhancement was also complete. Suddenly gaining immense power, Caroline didn't become arrogant; her expression remained very calm. In just five short minutes, she had adapted to this power.
She bowed to Eddie, saying, "Thank you. I will repay you. I definitely will. If you need my protection, after I retire, I will safeguard your safety."
"Not yet. You also have your own things to do. It's not too late to consider it after you're done. If possible, you can also tell me any information related to my safety. If it violates your principles, then don't tell me; just pretend you don't know," Eddie smiled.
Caroline, however, disagreed. "No, I will tell you. I trust you. I've been away for a few days; I need to report back. Sienna will be looking for me."
"Alright, I'm done with my work too. I'll see you out. Be careful with everything. Raccoon City is not peaceful. I hope when I see you next time, you'll still be the same," Eddie opened the laboratory door. Even if the things left here were investigated, no relevant information could be found. Use it and leave.
Meanwhile, in Pentagon City, the large outline of this city, seen from the sky, resembled a giant star, hence its name, Pentagon City.
The headquarters of the largest federal consortium, 'The Family,' was located here. After Simmons obtained the T-Virus found by Ada, he was ecstatic and prepared to build his own laboratory. He needed to use this serum to strengthen his influence. If used well, this substance could bring very high returns.
However, after receiving a phone call, Simmons' good mood completely vanished, and his expression turned incredibly grim. His rival, Kaplan, had somehow purchased T-Virus and related antibody vaccines, as well as some combat data on infected weapons!
Kaplan submitted these items to the Family's Elder Council, and the elders were very satisfied. They also handed over some of the Family's industries for him to manage.
This was a dangerous signal! Being given industries to manage was not a division of assets but a test. After a monthly regular payment of funds, whatever money was earned went entirely into his personal wallet, to be used to develop his own projects.
Whether it was doing business, or currying favor with local Senators, money was needed. Even researching certain scientific projects required money.
Simmons had already forced other competitors to the brink of bankruptcy. Suddenly, Kaplan landed a huge blow, which was very frustrating. Moreover, the Elder Council's decision to allocate industries without his consent was itself a very dangerous signal.
"Investigate! Who exactly did Kaplan contact?" Simmons angrily slammed the table. He was very annoyed. Besides discovering that his beloved spy, Ada, was cohabiting with some slacker, his professional setback also made him very displeased. He wanted to hit someone!
"The spy we placed has died. It seems Kaplan discovered him," an assistant explained.
Actually, that spy was in the private armed forces and was even a captain. Unfortunately, he died in a confrontation with a biochemical weapon, experiencing the effects of Umbrella's product with his own life. It was indeed very effective, without even a single complaint.
"Then place more in! Hmph, from today onwards, I want to know exactly where Kaplan goes, what he eats. Even when he goes to the bathroom, I want a report!" Simmons had to shift his attention from Eddie. In his eyes, Eddie was just an ant anyway.
"Understood, Leader!" the assistant responded loudly. If he didn't speak loudly enough, given Simmons' temper, he would probably be given a hard time. The tempers of important people were just that inexplicable.
All of this was Eddie's calculation. No matter how powerful Simmons was, he couldn't ascend to heaven. So-called family consortiums would certainly have infighting, so he found a competitor to support. With a puppet to contend with Simmons, Eddie could secretly fire cold shots from behind.
Raccoon City University Town. As soon as Caroline returned to her dorm, Sienna appeared. "Where have you been these past few days?"
"I went to see Eddie," Caroline didn't hide it. She wasn't used to lying.
"He recruited you?" Sienna was very suspicious.
Caroline shook her head. "No, I'm a soldier; I have my own mission. But after I retire, I'll be his bodyguard as a way to repay him."
Sienna was a bit surprised. "You're not kidding, are you? Being his bodyguard? Who knows when you might mysteriously become pregnant. You should be careful."
"If he wants me to, I will," Caroline said, unconcerned.
Sienna clutched her head. The situation was getting a bit bad. She didn't doubt Caroline's words; she wouldn't lie. At least during her service, Caroline wouldn't have any disloyalty, and after retirement, that wouldn't be disloyalty; it would be loyalty! "Alright, I've set up an alarm in Dr. Mueller's lab. We have another mission: to investigate Umbrella."
Chapter 152: Traitor
The undercurrents in Raccoon City didn't affect daily life. Those who had to work still went to work, and those who had to live still lived. Spies and counter-spies were only for TV shows. Raccoon City residents were more concerned about whether today's hamburgers would increase in price and whether their salaries would be paid as usual.
Frederick clocked out of work as usual today. He was a senior researcher at Umbrella and a core researcher who knew about the existence of the T-Virus and G-Virus. However, compared to other researchers, Frederick was more ambitious. He wasn't satisfied with a monthly salary of 100,000; he wanted more.
Frederick, besides Spencer, was one of the people who noticed William's unusual behavior. He knew very well what an arrogant person like William would do when he made a great discovery: he would strive for more rights and resources. If he didn't get them, this proud genius would go to extremes.
Although he didn't know what William would do, Frederick clearly didn't want to guess. He just wanted to sneak away quietly. He had already sensed something different; recently, the guards in the laboratory had been quietly replaced. They were better equipped, had sharper eyes, and were more formidable.
"As long as you can obtain the latest research results, I will find you a new job at WilPharma, along with generous monetary rewards. And most importantly, I will clear your record!" Senator Lorn began to seek out Umbrella's internal employees to entice them to switch jobs.
The best way to defeat a competitor is to poach their talent.
"I'll find an opportunity. I need time. You'd best send a team to escort me out. Umbrella is not soft-hearted," Frederick whispered. He was still in the laboratory, yet he was harboring thoughts of betraying the company!
"I'll have an agent escort you. This is an excellent CIA agent. Too many people would only cause unnecessary trouble," Senator Lorn also lowered his voice.
"Okay, I'll contact you again in a week. If circumstances permit, I'll also contact you after I get the special sample. I want a million, no, I want ten million," Frederick stated his terms.
"We'll give you a hundred million! So, that's it. See you then, and I hope you bring good news," the Senator said, then hung up the phone.
After hanging up, Lorn reported to Kaplan, who was nearby, "Director, I've contacted that person. Also, aren't we continuing to cooperate with Mr. Cai?"
"Of course, we'll continue to cooperate. His drugs have been selling well worldwide recently. Didn't you see those guys at Tricell cursing in anger? Those useless people, hmph, they don't deserve to be our rivals. Also, don't put all your eggs in one basket. That guy is very ambitious; we need to guard against him," Kaplan snorted. He knew Eddie was using him, but only to gain sales rights for the drugs.
