Bang! The First Squad, who had just entered, immediately opened fire. Encountering the shambling zombies, these were, in their eyes, cannibalistic patients, and the order they received was to shoot them dead!
Perhaps it was their first engagement, and the number of zombies was too great, so they failed to hit the head accurately. These zombies would fall to the ground after being hit.
And at a speed visible to the naked eye, they were shrinking, undergoing rapid mutation. This was the T-Virus collecting the body's entire energy, then proceeding with further decomposition and reorganization. The final mutation resulted in Raging Zombies!
"There are too many enemies, we need reinforcements! Ah!" An agent had just finished speaking when he was rushed by a Raging Zombie, which directly bit through his main artery. This was beyond saving.
Bang! Eddie shot the Raging Zombie in the head. "Aim for the head. Regardless of whether they are human or not, as long as they are living creatures, a headshot will definitely kill them."
At this point, the squad members began to continuously attack the zombies' heads. Their poor firearm skills made it impossible to achieve accurate headshots.
Eddie shook his head, observing. "Fearlessness is one thing, but having trained competence is another." He took out a grenade, pulled the pin, and threw it directly into the doorway.
Boom! A series of explosions rang out, sending the zombies inside flying. One grenade cleared the area; fighting also requires skill.
"Suppress them with all firepower, aim for their heads!" Chief Marvin commanded into the walkie-talkie. Although he knew this wouldn't be easy, losing someone right at the start made him feel very bad.
The rookie Leon also felt a wave of confusion, only able to follow Instructor Kevin, continuously firing and killing these terrifying, already decaying zombies.
The rookie Leon had none of his demeanor from years of fighting bioweapons; he was still a rookie whose hands trembled slightly when shooting. Was it because he hadn't met Claire yet that his manly courage hadn't been activated?
Kevin took Leon to find the power supply. Fortunately, it was located in the outer area, only requiring them to bypass the factory. There, they saw a somewhat unbelievable sight: the power cables and the high-tower transformer had been transformed into a giant cocoon by an unknown creature.
"Marvin, there's a situation at the substation. There are many monsters here, we need reinforcements. It would be best to bring rocket launchers and flamethrowers. Everyone else, don't be rash, let's fall back and stay vigilant, don't disturb them!" Kevin immediately gave orders. He knew that rash action would lead to a complete wipeout.
Marvin was very confused and could only send a team to reinforce them. The others were still dealing with the zombies continuously emerging from the gate. These zombies had no sense of fear and would constantly attack to feed.
"Eddie, do you need to go and see? Kevin is in trouble over there, maybe it will help with your sample collection," Marvin asked.
"I'll go later, there's nothing to be troubled about. Didn't Chief Brian say? Heavy firepower leads the way, it's all about killing. If that doesn't work, then proceed with demolition, blow up the roof. With light coming in, it's clear to see, so there's no need to worry about any stragglers," Eddie said calmly.
Marvin's eyelid twitched. He wanted to, but was it necessary to immediately resort to bombs? Shouldn't it be small pistols and squirt guns first, and then go big if that doesn't work?
After Eddie extracted some samples from the Raging Zombies, he nodded to Jessica. Jessica then strode to the vehicle where the weapons were stored, picked up two rocket launchers, and walked towards the substation.
Gunshots continuously rang out; it seemed the front lines were already in battle. There were shouts and cries of pain, desperate screams of despair pulling triggers, followed by the arrival of death.
Two Lickers appeared, almost crippling a small, unprepared squad. Bodies were dismembered everywhere, brutally slaughtered by the Lickers.
Kevin and Leon were still hiding in a corner, continuously returning fire, but the bullets simply couldn't hit the Lickers. These creatures, evolved from Raging Zombies, were too fast for human reactions to keep up.
Roar! A Licker that had fed several times seemed to smell living humans. It roared and charged over, as if Eddie and the others were an extremely delicious supplement in its perception!
Lisa stepped forward, directly executing a high kick, her high heels instantly pinning the pouncing Licker underfoot. With a forceful stomp, the Licker died.
Her movements were crisp and clean, without any flourish. Everyone in the fierce battle was stunned. This level of strength was too exaggerated, wasn't it? Was it a pre-emptive strike?
Eddie showed no reaction. It was a joke; even if a dozen of them attacked at once, they couldn't beat Lisa, unless it was a Tyrant with its limiters removed. Otherwise, nothing could defeat her.
Looking at the sky above the substation, countless sticky spider webs covered the power lines. The infected spider webs had turned the substation into their hive, used for dwelling and attacking any living creature!
"What's the big deal? Just electrify these spiders to death and it's over," Eddie shook his head, truly unaware of how difficult it was.
"The control room is behind us; we need to pass through this spider's web, which will be very dangerous!" Kevin explained. To get through, they had to deal with these spiders first. If they could get through, these spiders wouldn't be a big problem.
"What a bother!" Eddie took a sniper rifle and, aiming at a spider on the power grid, fired a shot—a headshot!
Chapter 162: Mutated Earthworm, Gravedigger
Bang, bang, bang! With three consecutive shots, Eddie, while aiming with the sniper rifle, accurately hit the heads of three spiders. The charging spiders fell to the ground. With the T-Virus's enhancement, each shot was as if divinely aided, with extraordinary bullet time, calmly killing every monster.
"Leon, we can't fall behind either. Begin, focus your mind, slow your breathing, and enter your own rhythm. Keep your eyes on the target, concentrate. Fire!" Kevin began on-site instruction, also firing a shot himself.
The mutated giant spider fell in response. This was the first mutated spider brought down by Kevin.
With a hideous appearance and sharp limbs, one claw could pierce through thick steel plates. These sharp limbs, if they pierced a person, would definitely be a through-and-through wound!
Eddie was also surprised. Were these monsters naturally infected or modified? Compared to before infection, even gentle animals had become incredibly destructive!
Dada-da! Svetlana behind him picked up a submachine gun and continuously fired at the charging spiders and some mutated Zombie Dogs. A standard tactical submachine gun, capable of a thousand meters per second, its enormous kinetic energy could tear apart most flesh and blood, but at the cost of heavy recoil.
This didn't seem to manifest in Svetlana; her stable gun-holding posture and continuous trigger pulls were completely unaffected.
Whoosh! A Zombie Dogs suddenly rushed out, biting a surprised agent to death. His main artery was severed; even a god would find it hard to save him!
Bang! Eddie pulled out his Magnum and blew the Zombie Dogs's head off with one shot.
Taking advantage of Eddie drawing fire, the constantly dodging Kevin led Leon through the spiderweb and into the substation's control room.
"It looks like the fuse is blown. There should be a fuse here," Leon said after checking the electrical box.
"That's not a fuse, it's a relay. Just flip it," Kevin said, then pulled the power switch.
Immediately, lightning flashed. All the spiders that had woven webs on the power lines were electrocuted due to their sticky webs. The electric flash passed quickly, and about thirty large spiders died from electrocution, with many spider eggs turning into barbecue.
Once the power grid was connected, the lights in the waste disposal plant began to illuminate. The indoor environment was no longer completely dark, which was at least a very good option for combat.
"First Squad, frontal assault! Second Squad, cover! Heavy firepower forward, don't be stingy with your bullets, eliminate all criminals!" Marvin shouted loudly.
Eddie didn't extract spider samples; he didn't like adding any animal gene fragments to the T-Virus. Adding things indiscriminately would lead to him becoming a monster. What he wanted to be was a superman, not a monster. Living on as a monster would be meaningless.
"Alright, ladies, party time has begun. Svetlana, do you want to compete to see who kills more monsters?" Eddie smiled.
Svetlana raised an eyebrow, thrusting a tactical dagger directly through a zombie's head. "What if you lose?"
"If I lose, I'll give you a million. If I win, I'll make an outrageous request!" Eddie grinned mischievously.
"Go to hell!" Svetlana snorted, not responding further.
Thump! A tremor shook the ground, and screams and chilling sounds of breaking bones came from the processing plant. No one knew what was happening.
"What's going on? First Squad, report!" Marvin yelled loudly.
"Monster! We encountered a monster that suddenly attacked us from underground! Cook and Bell are dead!" The squad leader was somewhat panicked.
"Retreat immediately!" Marvin had no choice but to issue a retreat order. He hadn't expected the situation here to be so severe. Several people had already died. No wonder Chief Brian had told them to bring heavy firepower; the situation here was too bizarre.
A giant Gravedigger lurked in the soil beneath the facility. This was a monster mutated after natural infection by the T-Virus. Rapid metabolism combined with a certain degree of genetic recombination transformed the originally tiny earthworm into something the size of a concrete pillar, with an incredibly tough exterior that even bullets couldn't harm.
"Do you know how I deal with this kind of monster?" Eddie smiled.
"What's that got to do with me? Trying to show off how great you are in front of me? I'm not like that little woman Rebecca; don't take me for a fool!" Svetlana snorted. As an experienced special forces instructor, to impress her, one had to possess extraordinary abilities. The only ones who could conquer a strong woman were those stronger than her, definitely not effeminate men wearing heavy makeup!
"Just small talk, you're thinking too much," Eddie shook his head. He wasn't overthinking.
"When you're strong enough to defeat me, let alone thinking, you can do whatever you want, little man!" Svetlana suddenly teased, her tone carrying a sense of pride in her own strength.
"That day will come sooner or later. Anyway, I won't let you die. Let's go, we'll deal with those monsters. Did you see those spies? They're all collecting data. This world might turn into a monster's world in the future." Eddie sighed, though his tone sounded a little gloating no matter how you heard it.
