A few minutes passed, about 40 minutes, and Sebastian was finally done sorting out the files and reaching a conclusion. He stood up, packed his bag, and walked towards Dylan. He tapped him, and Dylan woke up, his eyes a bit red as he had just woken from sleep.
"Are you done?" Dylan questioned, squeezing his eyes as he tried to shake off the sleep.
"Yes, I'm currently done here for the moment. I'm going to sort out another affair of mine."
"Alright then, I'll just stay here," Dylan said.
Sebastian nodded, but then he remembered something and asked, "Will you be discussing with Adrian?"
"Yes, if he gets free time, we might discuss our similarities or differences," Dylan replied without any hidden intention.
For someone who had just woken up, he was still catching up with his senses, and thus couldn't manage to see the way his words influenced the expression of the one before him.
"You know what," Sebastian said, "it's best you follow me, as you might get to know some places through the drive."
"Oh… really?" Dylan asked, and Sebastian nodded.
Sebastian came out of his office and walked to the side of his colleagues. He said, "So, I've checked the case, and I'm going now to investigate it. If it works out, we'll keep it, and if not, we'll have to drop it."
"Okay, boss," Adrian responded, with others too focused on their work to notice Sebastian leaving his office or speaking.
Sebastian and Dylan then left. As they settled into the car, Dylan plugged his earbuds into his ears straight away, but this time, he didn't close his eyes, rather, he focused on it. While Sebastian started the car.
But for someone whose first impression of Dylan hadn't been this quiet, it was quite hard for him to stay in the same space with so much silence, especially when he didn't know what Dylan was doing on his phone.
So, he tapped him, and Dylan paused the song he was listening to.
"Are you alright?" Dylan asked.
"Yes, I am," Sebastian responded curtly, and then he added, making sure his emotions weren't too obvious, "Well… you know… when I told you to behave, I didn't say you should turn mute."
A smile curled up on Dylan's face as he looked at Sebastian and said teasingly, "Are you missing my voice? My warmth?"
Sebastian scoffed. "What? I just don't want you to feel lonely."
"So, you care for me?" Dylan asked again as he looked at Sebastian with endearing eyes.
"Well," Sebastian started, "tell me how you feel about my office."
"Hmmm," Dylan pondered, then said, "I noticed that Adrian might be gay, and something could work out between us."
Sebastian's hands tightened on the steering wheel as he muttered, "Oh… why do you think so?"
"My gaydar is quite high. I've never been wrong. Also, Olivia, she seems so into you. She gives me the ick."
"Oh… her? I don't think so…" Sebastian said.
Dylan tapped him as he said, "You? What do you know?"
He chuckled as he plugged his earbuds back in and continued listening to music.
The car screeched to a halt, and Dylan woke up. Sebastian was already packing his bag as he got out of the car. Dylan did the same, but Sebastian stopped him as he stood before him.
"No, you'll stay in the car."
"I'd rather have stayed at your office than staying in the car. No, you can't keep me here, just take me along," Dylan said with pleading eyes, knowing Sebastian had the upper hand at the moment. If he decided not to take him, there wasn't much he could do, so he tried to use his cuteness and pout.
"Fine," Sebastian said as he walked ahead, and Dylan followed.
He looked around and, upon entering, couldn't help but ask, "But why are we here? At the hospital?"
"The client is here," Sebastian said with his usual poker face as he walked forward.
As they walked on, Dylan saw a guy waving at them. Out of confusion, he waved back, and the guy waved again, pointing to his side. Dylan looked at Sebastian, who kept walking without even looking around, and tapped him to stop.
"I think someone is calling you."
"Where?" he asked as he finally looked around. His eyes first met Dylan's, then shifted to another pair.
The guy was dressed in a white coat over his shirt, with black curly hair, looking like a typical American playboy to Dylan.
"Sebastian, what brings you here?" he asked, spreading his arms for a warm embrace, but Sebastian ignored it.
"For a case. My client is being treated here," Sebastian replied.
"Ouch…" the man reacted, clutching his heart. "You just broke my heart."
Dylan watched as they conversed, his attention sharpening when he heard his name.
"Dylan, meet Liam, my friend."
"And who is he?" Liam asked again.
"Like I said, he's Dylan Kang."
"Yes, I know, but like… your what?"
"Oh…" Dylan said, looking between Sebastian and Liam, deciding his answer. "We are friends, and I accompanied him here."
Liam chuckled softly as he looked at Sebastian. "You have a friend… wow."
"We'll leave now," Sebastian said, and without waiting for Liam's response, he walked off with Dylan trailing behind.
Soon, Sebastian reached a corridor where two policemen were stationed in front of a room. He showed them his ID card and was allowed entry, with Dylan told to wait outside.
Sebastian entered, and in less than a minute, he was back outside.
Dylan looked confused. "What happened?"
"I've confirmed what I came to confirm."
"Which is?"
"We wouldn't be able to take on the case," Sebastian said, walking ahead as Dylan followed.
"Why? What went wrong?" Dylan asked.
"The complainant wouldn't speak, and because of that, we can't gather enough statements or evidence for the case."
"Oh…" Dylan muttered.
They were almost near the car when Dylan caught up to him and held him back.
"What is the case about?" he asked.
"Why do you care?" Sebastian asked, looking at him, confused.
"Just tell me."
"She's a r*pe victim, and her mother filed the case in court against the rapist."
"Oh…"
"And she wouldn't speak, so no case."
There was silence between them for a moment before Dylan said,
"Come with me. I think I can help."
