Chapter 4 - Hunters'trap

Before I knew it, the next morning was, I woke up to the sound of birds chirping outside, their sweet melodies a stark contrast to the turmoil brewing inside me. I stretched, feeling a bit more refreshed, the soft blanket slipping off my shoulders as I swung my legs over the side of the bed. The wooden floor was cool beneath my feet as I got dressed and headed out to find Lineo. She was in the main cabin, surrounded by maps and papers, the scent of freshly brewed coffee wafting from a mug on the table. The warm aroma mingled with the earthy smell of old books and worn leather. "Ah, Boitseko. Good morning. Come, sit down." Lineo's voice was warm, but her eyes were serious, making me feel a bit nervous as I sat.

What was she going to say now? I wondered, my hands fidgeting with the hem of my sleeve. "Telang was telling the truth," Lineo said, her eyes locked onto mine. "Your parents were part of this pack. They disappeared when you were just a baby." But this wasn't the truth, according to what was written in the book. My parents were indeed the Lumarii wolves, they were both king and queen, but the book didn't state that they had disappeared – they were there and still actively reigning in their kingdom. The discrepancy sent a jolt of unease through me, but I kept my expression neutral, playing along. I leaned forward, pretending to be curious, my voice barely above a whisper. "What happened to them?" Lineo's expression was grim, her eyes clouding over like a stormy sky. "We don't know. But we have reason to believe they're still out there, somewhere."

I felt a shiver run down my spine as I asked, "What do you mean?" Lineo's eyes locked onto mine, her gaze intense. "The Lumarri wolves have a… special power. A power that can be used for good or evil. Your parents were working on a way to protect it, before they disappeared." The words hung In the air, making the silence feel thick and heavy. "What power?" Lineo's voice dropped to a whisper, her breath tickling my ear. "The power of the moon. The Lumarri wolves are keepers of the moon's energy. And you're one of us, Boitseko."

I stared at her, my mind reeling. The moon's energy? Is this what they're after? Suddenly, the door burst open, and Telang stormed in. "Lineo, I need to talk to you. Now." Lineo's eyes narrowed. "What is it, Telang?" Telang's eyes flashed yellow. "The hunters are getting closer. We need to act, now." Lineo's expression was calm, but I could see the tension in her eyes. "We'll discuss this, Telang. But first, Boitseko needs to understand-" Telang cut her off. "No, Lineo. You don't understand. The hunters are not just after the pack. They're after Boitseko."

I felt a chill run down my spine. "What do you mean?" Telang's eyes locked onto mine. "You, Boitseko. You're the key to unlocking the moon's power. And the hunters will stop at nothing to get it." The room fell silent. I felt like I was trapped in a nightmare, with no escape. Lineo's eyes narrowed, her expression unreadable. "Telang, that's enough."

But Telang didn't back down. "No, Lineo, it's time Boitseko knew the truth. She's the key to unlocking the moon's power, and the hunters will stop at nothing to get it." I felt like I was drowning in a sea of secrets. "What do you mean?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Lineo sighed, her eyes softening. "Boitseko, the Lumarri wolves have a special power, one that's tied to the moon. Your parents were working on a way to protect it, but they disappeared before they could finish."

Telang snorted. "And now, the hunters think you're the one who can unlock it. They're coming for you, Boitseko, and we need to be ready." Kalebe stepped forward, his eyes flashing yellow. "We'll protect her, Lineo. We won't let the hunters get their hands on her." Lineo nodded, her expression determined. "We'll do everything we can to keep you safe, Boitseko. But we need to work together. Telang, what's the plan?" Telang's eyes gleamed with excitement. "We need to get Boitseko to the sacred site, where the moon's power is strongest.

If we can unlock the power, we can defeat the hunters once and for all." I felt a surge of trepidation. "What if I can't unlock it?" Telang's smile was cold. "Oh, you'll unlock it, Boitseko. You're the key. And if you don't, the hunters will make sure you do." The room fell silent. I felt like I was trapped in a nightmare, with no escape. Lineo's voice was calm, but firm. "We'll get you to the sacred site, Boitseko. And we'll do everything we can to protect you. But you need to trust us." I looked around the room, seeing the determination in their eyes. "So this is what they brought me here for?" I thought trying to connect some dots.

"Okay," I said, my voice firm. "Let's do it." The others nodded, and we began to make plans. But as I looked at Telang, I couldn't shake the feeling that she was hiding something. And that she would stop at nothing to get what she wanted. The journey to the sacred site was going to be treacherous, but I was ready. As we set out, the moon overhead seemed to be watching me, its power calling to me like a siren's song. As we set out, the moon overhead seemed to be watching me, its power calling to me like a siren's song. The pack moved swiftly, their eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of danger. Kalebe stayed close to me, his presence reassuring. Telang, on the other hand, seemed to be in a hurry, her eyes fixed on the path ahead. We moved through the forest, the trees growing taller and the underbrush thicker. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves. I felt like I was walking into a trap.

Suddenly, Lineo stopped, her head cocked to one side. "Do you hear that?" The pack fell silent, their ears perked up. I listened, and soon I heard it too – the sound of footsteps, heavy and deliberate. Kalebe's eyes flashed yellow. "Hunters." Telang's smile was cold. "Right on cue." Lineo's expression was grim. "We'll split up. Kalebe, take Boitseko and get her to the sacred site. Telang, you'll come with me. We'll lead them away." I felt a surge of panic. I nodded, and Kalebe grabbed my hand, pulling me into a run. We sprinted through the forest, the trees blurring together as we moved. The hunters were closing in, their footsteps getting louder. Suddenly, Kalebe stopped, his eyes fixed on a narrow crevice in the rock face. "In there, quick!"

I scrambled into the crevice, Kalebe right behind me. We moved deeper into the cave, the darkness swallowing us whole. As we caught our breath, I heard the hunters outside, their voices muffled but getting closer. Kalebe's eyes gleamed in the darkness. "We're not going to make it to the sacred site, are we?" Kalebe's expression was grim. "I don't think so. But we can hide here, wait for the others to come for us." I felt a surge of determination. "I'm not hiding. I'm going to fight." Kalebe's smile was fierce. "That's my girl." As the hunters closed in, I felt a strange sense of calm. The hunters burst into the cave, their eyes scanning the darkness. Kalebe and I stood ready, our eyes fixed on the enemy.

The hunters burst into the cave, their eyes scanning the darkness. Kalebe and I stood ready, our eyes fixed on the enemy. "We're not going down without a fight," Kalebe growled, his voice low and menacing. The hunters sneered, their eyes flashing with excitement. "Oh, we're going to take you down, and we're going to enjoy it." The air was thick with tension as the hunters crept closer. I could feel their hot breath on my skin, their eyes gleaming with malice. Kalebe tensed, ready to spring into action. I readied myself, my heart pounding in my chest. But just as the hunters were about to attack, a loud howl echoed through the cave, making the ground shake.

The hunters froze, their eyes wide with fear. "What's that?" one of them whispered. Kalebe's smile was cold. "That's the sound of your doom." The howl grew louder, and suddenly the cave was filled with wolves. They poured in from every direction, their eyes flashing yellow in the darkness. The hunters tried to fight, but they were no match for the pack. The wolves tore through them, their growls and snarls filling the air. As the fight raged on, the fight was intense. When it was over, the hunters lay defeated, and the pack stood victorious.

As I stood there, catching my breath, Kalebe approached me with a proud smile. "You did great, Boitseko." I smiled, feeling a sense of pride and belonging. But my gaze drifted to Telang, who was watching me with an unreadable expression.

Lineo appeared beside me, her eyes serious. "We need to get moving. The sacred site is still a few hours away, and we can't afford to waste any more time." I nodded, and the pack set off, with Kalebe and Lineo flanking me. Telang walked ahead, her eyes fixed on the path. As we walked, the trees grew taller and the underbrush thicker. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves. Suddenly, I heard – the sound of running water. Kalebe's eyes flashed yellow. "The river." Lineo's expression was grim. "We'll need to cross it. The sacred site is on the other side." Telang's smile was cold. "And the hunters will be waiting for us."

The pack moved forward, their eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of danger. As we approached the river, I saw that it was swollen, the water churning and foaming. Kalebe turned to me, his eyes serious. "We'll need to swim. Can you do it?" I nodded. The pack plunged Into the river, their bodies contorting as they swam. I followed, the water icy cold as it enveloped me. But as I swam, I felt a strange sensation. It was as if the water was… calling to me. I looked up, and saw that the moon was full, its light casting an eerie glow over the water. Suddenly, I felt a surge of power. My body began to shift, my senses growing sharper.

As I emerged from the water, I felt a rush of energy. The pack was waiting for me, their eyes shining with excitement. "You're doing it, Boitseko," Kalebe said, his voice full of pride. "You're unlocking the moon's power." I smiled, feeling a sense of wonder and awe. I was a Lumarri wolf, and I was ready to take on the world. But as I looked around, I saw that we were not alone. The hunters were waiting for us, their eyes fixed on me with an unblinking gaze. Telang's smile was cold. "Welcome to the trap, Boitseko."
