Chapter 5 - The hunted

The pack was on high alert, eyes scanning the surroundings. Kalebe was close to me, ready to protect me. Lineo's expression was determined, but there was a hint of tension. My eyes locked onto the hunters, and I took a deep breath. In a split second, I vanished into thin air, leaving the pack and hunters stunned. The wolves around me blinked in surprise, confused. Kalebe's eyes widened, "Boitseko!" The hunters' faces twisted in anger, realizing they'd been tricked.

The air was thick with tension. The pack was on edge, unsure where I went. The hunters started searching, their movements aggressive. They spread out, searching for me. The pack was on high alert, Kalebe and Lineo scanning the area, trying to pick up my scent. Telang's eyes narrowed, a hint of anger flashing across her face. "She can't have gone far," she growled, moving to join the search.

The forest was dark, shadows twisting like living things. Sounds of rustling leaves and snapping twigs echoed as the hunters and pack moved through the underbrush. Suddenly, a low growl rumbled from a thicket. A hunter stepped back, eyes fixed on the bushes. "Got her," he whispered. But as they moved in, a figure darted out – not me, but a wolf from the pack, leading them on a wild chase.

The distraction worked. I was long gone, melting into the night like a ghost. I ran through the forest, the trees blurring together as I put distance between myself and the hunters. The moon was overhead, casting an eerie glow on the forest floor. My heart was pounding, but I was focused. I knew the pack was counting on me to unlock the moon's power, but I wasn't sure I was ready. And Telang's motives were still unclear.

As I ran, the terrain shifted. The forest gave way to rocky outcroppings and steep cliffs. I was agile, leaping over boulders and dodging low-hanging branches. I had a destination in mind – an old cave system I knew from my childhood. It was hidden, and it would be the perfect place to lay low for a while. The cave's entrance was narrow, hidden behind a waterfall. I slipped through, finding myself in a damp, dark tunnel. The sound of rushing water echoed off the walls. I moved deeper into the cave, my Lumarri senses guiding me. The air was cool, and the darkness was absolute, but I could see perfectly.

As I walked, the tunnel opened up into a vast chamber. The ceiling was lost in darkness, and the walls were lined with glittering crystals. The hunters and pack searched for hours, but I had vanished. Telang was furious, eyes flashing yellow in the dark. "Find her!" she growled, but the pack was struggling to pick up my scent. Kalebe was worried, pacing back and forth. "We need to regroup. She's not here." Lineo's expression was grim. "We can't stay. The hunters will catch up. Let's head back to the den."

The pack reluctantly agreed, and they started to move out. The hunters lingered, unsure what to do without their leader's orders. As they headed back, the forest seemed to grow darker, like it was swallowing them whole. The pack was tense, senses on high alert. Back at the den, the atmosphere was heavy. Telang was pacing, her anger building. "She's just a kid. She can't survive out there on her own." Kalebe wasn't convinced. "She's a Lumarri, Telang. She'll be fine." Lineo intervened, "We need to focus on the moon's power. The hunters will come for us again. We can't wait for Boitseko."

The pack started preparing for the next fight, their movements efficient but anxious. They were counting on me, and I was nowhere to be found. As night fell, the den was quiet, the pack resting but alert. Telang was the only one still moving, her eyes fixed on the moon outside. Suddenly, a howl echoed in the distance. The pack was on its feet, ears perked up. "What is it?" someone whispered. The howl was repeated, closer this time. The pack was tense, ready to move. But it wasn't me. It was a warning – the hunters were coming. The pack readied Itself for battle, their eyes flashing yellow in the dark. The moon's power was still out of reach, and I was still missing.

The hunters emerged from the trees, their faces twisted with anger. "Where's Boitseko?" one of them growled. Telang's smile was cold. "You won't find her. She's gone." The hunters' faces fell, and for a moment, they were stunned. Then they charged, and the battle began. The pack fought fiercely, but the hunters were relentless. The moon's power was still locked away, and I was still out there, alone. As the fight raged on, the pack was starting to tire. They were outnumbered, and the hunters were gaining ground. But just as all seemed lost, a figure appeared on the edge of the battle. It was me, my eyes flashing yellow. "Get back," I growled, my voice low and menacing. "I can handle this." The pack was stunned, but they obeyed. The hunters charged, and I unleashed my power.

The battle was Intense, but I had the upper hand. I was a force to be reckoned with, and the hunters were no match. As the fight ended, the pack was victorious, but they were wary. What's Boitseko's game? The pack was victorious, but they were wary. Kalebe approached me, cautious. "You okay?" I nodded, my expression unreadable. "I'm fine." Lineo stepped forward, eyes narrowed. "Boitseko, what happened? Why did you leave?" My gaze drifted to Telang, who was watching me with an intense stare. "I needed to think. And I didn't want to be a liability." Telang's expression didn't change, but her eyes seemed to gleam with approval. "You did the right thing. But next time, don't disappear like that."

The pack started To clean up the mess, their movements subdued. They were all thinking the same thing – I had power, and I wasn't sure how to control it. As they headed back to the den, the atmosphere was tense. I was walking alongside Kalebe, my mind racing. "Kalebe, what's going on?" I whispered. "What's Telang's deal?" Kalebe's eyes flicked to Telang, who was walking ahead. "Telang's got her own reasons for wanting the moon's power. Just be careful around her, okay?" I nodded, my mind spinning with questions. Back at the den, the pack was exhausted. They settled in for the night, but I was restless. I slipped out into the night, needing some air. The moon was high overhead, casting an eerie glow. I felt its power calling me, tempting me.

Suddenly, a figure stepped out of the shadows. Telang. "You feel it, don't you?" she said, her voice low. My eyes locked onto hers. "What do you want, Telang?" Telang's smile was cold. "I want the moon's power. And I think you do too." My instincts screamed at me to run, but I was frozen in place. Telang's eyes seemed to bore into my soul. "What makes you think that?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. Telang's smile widened. "Because I see it in your eyes, Boitseko. You want it. And I can help you get it." The air was thick with tension. I wasn't sure what to do. My eyes narrowed, my mind racing. I wasn't sure what to make of Telang's words. "I don't know what you're talking about," I said, trying to sound calm. Telang's smile didn't waver. "Don't play dumb, Boitseko. I know you feel it. The power's calling to you."

I took a step back, my instincts screaming at me to get away from Telang. "I'm not interested." Telang's eyes flashed with anger, but she reined it in. "Think about it, Boitseko. With the moon's power, we could be unstoppable. We could protect the pack, protect the world." I was tempted, despite myself. I wanted to help the pack, wanted to be strong. But something about Telang's words didn't sit right. "I'll think about it," I said finally, trying to placate Telang. Telang's smile returned, but it was cold. "Good. I'll be waiting." With that, she disappeared into the shadows, leaving me feeling uneasy. What's Telang's real game? I headed back to the den, my mind spinning. I had a bad feeling about this.

As I slipped back into the den, Kalebe was waiting for me. "Hey, where did you go?" he whispered. My eyes flicked to where Telang disappeared. "Just needed some air," I said, trying to sound casual. Kalebe's eyes narrowed, but he let it go. "Be careful, okay?" I nodded, my heart heavy. The night wore on, the pack resting but alert. I had my doubts, but I was determined to see this through. As I drifted off to sleep, I had one thought: what's Telang planning?

The next morning, the pack was up early, preparing for the day ahead. Lineo called a meeting, her expression serious. "We need to talk about the moon's power," she said, eyes scanning the group. "Boitseko, you're the key. Are you ready to unlock it?"
