Chapter 12 - Chapter 10:The Grand Arrival

The entrance to the De Cruz Grand Ballroom was a sea of flashing lights and expensive perfume. The "Color of Blood" launch was the event of the year, and the red carpet was packed with reporters. Nandini stepped out of Arka's vintage car, her heart racing. She was wearing a custom-designed crimson gown that flowed behind her like a literal trail of blood.

Arka, looking sharp in a classic black tuxedo, offered his arm. "Ready, partner? You look like you're about to own this entire room."

"I just want to get through the night without seeing any red eyes," Nandini whispered, clutching her clutch bag.

"Don't let the cameras intimidate you, Nandini," Arka whispered with a supportive smile. "Just remember, you're the star tonight."

"I'm trying, Arka," she replied, but her eyes were already scanning the crowd, looking for the one person she both dreaded and expected to see.

A sleek limousine pulled up, and the atmosphere shifted instantly. Aditya stepped out, looking untouchable in a charcoal-black suit. He turned and offered his hand to Tanya, who stepped out with a triumphant smirk. As they walked up the red carpet, Aditya's gaze sliced through the crowd and landed directly on Nandini. He saw her hand resting on Arka's arm, and his jaw tightened almost imperceptibly. He didn't acknowledge her—he just led Tanya inside, his silence louder than any greeting.

The Ballroom Cold-War

Inside, the gala was a sea of red roses and shimmering glass. Nandini tried to enjoy the music, but she felt Aditya's presence everywhere. He was moving through the room like a king, but his eyes never stayed on Tanya for long. They kept drifting back to where Nandini stood with Arka.

He was clearly jealous—not because he feared Arka, but because he couldn't stand seeing Nandini offer her smiles and her warmth to another man while she treated him like a stranger.

The Shadow's Glimpse

Nandini felt a sudden, familiar chill. She looked toward the darkened terrace doors and saw it—the red-eyed shadow. It wasn't attacking; it was simply there, watching. It moved through the peripheral of the guests, a jagged blur that made the air turn heavy.

She gasped, her hand flying to her chest. Just as the shadow began to glide closer, a warm, firm hand suddenly pressed against the small of her back.

The moment that hand touched her, the shadow didn't die—it simply flickered and became faint, retreating back into the darkness as if pushed away by an invisible force. Nandini spun around, her heart pounding.

The Confrontation

It was Aditya. He had left Tanya's side and was now standing so close that she could feel the heat radiating from him. He didn't let go of her waist; instead, he pulled her slightly closer, away from the path of the servers.

"You look... distracted," Aditya murmured, his voice a low, velvet baritone.

"I saw something," Nandini whispered, trying to pull away, but his grip was firm. "And why are you here? Don't you have a 'partner' to attend to?"

Aditya's eyes darkened. He leaned in, his face inches from hers, using his height to trap her in his shadow. "Tanya is a business arrangement. But you? You seem very comfortable with Arka tonight. Does it not bother you at all to see me with someone else?"

Nandini looked him straight in the eye, masking her trembling hands with defiance. "Why should it bother me, Aditya? I have no feelings for you. You are my employer, nothing more. My life—and who I spend it with—is none of your concern."

The Romantic Friction

Aditya's expression shifted from coldness to a raw, intense interest. He didn't believe her. He reached out, his thumb tracing the line of her jaw in a slow, possessive motion that sent a jolt through her.

"No feelings?" he challenged, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Then why is your heart racing? Why are you looking at me with so much fire?"

"It's anger, Aditya. Not fire," she lied, her voice shaking.

He didn't release her. He pulled her even closer, his hand moving to the back of her neck, holding her in a magnetic, romantic tension. For a second, it looked like he might kiss her right there in the middle of the gala.

"I don't believe you," he said softly. "You can ignore me all you want, Nandini, but you can't ignore the fact that when I touch you, the world feels different."

Nandini managed to find her strength. She shoved his hand away and stepped back. "The only thing I feel when you're near is the urge to leave. Enjoy your night with Tanya, Chairman."

She turned and walked back toward Arka without looking back. Aditya stood there, watching her depart, his eyes burning with a mix of obsession and a strange, feelings that he was barely keeping under wraps.
