Chapter 11 - 11.The Fall Between Choices

11.The Fall Between Choices

The clock read 11:57 PM.

Lily's heartbeat matched every second.

Loud.

Fast.

Unforgiving.

This was it.

No second chances.

At 11:59, she moved.

The door opened silently, and she slipped into the hallway. The mansion felt different at night—quieter, darker, like it was watching her.

But she didn't stop.

She couldn't.

Every step was memorized.

Every turn planned.

The side corridor came into view.

Freedom was just ahead.

She reached the door.

Her fingers wrapped around the handle—

Locked.

Her breath hitched.

"No…"

"Going somewhere?"

The voice froze her in place.

Slowly, she turned.

He stood there.

Blocking her way.

Watching her.

"You…" she whispered, her voice trembling.

His expression was unreadable. Calm. Controlled.

"I expected more patience," he said quietly.

Anger flared through her fear.

"You locked it," she snapped.

"Yes."

"Move."

He didn't.

Instead, he stepped closer.

"You planned this," he said. "The timing. The route."

A pause.

"But you forgot one thing."

Her chest tightened.

"What?"

"Me."

Before she could react, his hand closed around her wrist. Not harsh—but firm enough that she couldn't pull away.

"No—let go!"

He didn't answer.

Didn't hesitate.

Within moments, he had brought her back to her room.

The door shut behind them.

Locked.

Final.

Lily stumbled back, her breathing uneven.

"You can't do this!"

"I already did."

Her eyes burned with frustration.

"I'm leaving!"

"No."

The word hit harder than anything else.

"You don't get to decide that!"

His gaze locked onto hers.

"I already have."

Silence fell.

Heavy.

For a moment, it felt like the walls were closing in.

Then—

He turned.

And walked out.

The lock clicked again.

Lily stood frozen.

Then something inside her snapped.

"No."

Her voice was stronger this time.

"I'm not staying here."

Her eyes moved quickly around the room.

Door—useless.

No time.

No options.

Then—

The balcony.

Her heart pounded harder.

It was dangerous.

Too high.

Too risky.

But it was still a way out.

She rushed forward, grabbing the curtains and pulling them down. The fabric resisted at first, then tore free with a sharp sound.

"Come on…"

Her hands moved quickly, tying the pieces together. Tight knots. Strong pulls.

Not perfect.

Not safe.

But enough.

She tied one end to the railing, testing it.

It held.

Barely.

Her breath shook as she climbed onto the edge.

"Just go…" she whispered to herself.

And then—

She jumped.

The drop was sudden.

Her grip tightened painfully as she slid down, the fabric burning slightly against her palms. Her heart felt like it would stop at any second.

Halfway.

Almost—

Her foot slipped.

She dropped the rest of the way.

The impact knocked the air out of her lungs as she hit the ground.

For a second, everything blurred.

Then—

She forced herself up.

"Lily!"

Her head snapped up.

Alex.

Relief hit her so hard it almost made her collapse.

"Alex…"

She ran to him without thinking, her eyes filling with tears.

"You're okay," he said quickly, grabbing her shoulders. "I've got you. We need to move—now."

She nodded, wiping her tears.

"I thought—I thought I wouldn't make it…"

"You did," he said firmly. "Now let's get you out of here."

He grabbed her hand, pulling her forward.

They ran.

Across the dark grounds.

Toward the gates.

Toward freedom.

Lily's heart raced—but this time, it wasn't just fear.

It was hope.

"I can't believe this is working…" she whispered.

"Don't slow down," Alex said.

The gates were close now.

So close.

Then—

Lily's steps slowed.

Something felt wrong.

The air shifted.

And suddenly—

He was there.

Standing in front of them.

Blocking their path.

Lily's breath stopped.

No sound.

No warning.

Just… him.

"How—" Alex started, stepping slightly in front of her.

But the man's eyes were only on Lily.

Always on her.

"You really thought it would be that easy?" he asked quietly.

Lily's chest tightened painfully.

"You locked me in," she said, her voice shaking.

"And you still found a way out," he replied.

A pause.

Something unreadable flickered in his expression.

"Impressive."

Alex stepped forward.

"Stay away from her."

For the first time—

The man looked at him.

A brief glance.

Cold.

Dismissive.

Then back to Lily.

"Come back," he said.

Her heart pounded violently.

"No," she whispered.

Silence fell.

Alex tightened his grip on her hand.

"We're leaving."

The man didn't move.

Didn't react.

But something about his stillness—

Felt more dangerous than anything else.

"You can try," he said calmly.

Lily's breath caught.

"But you already know…"

A pause.

His gaze locked onto hers.

"…you won't get far."

The words sent a chill down her spine.

Because deep down—

She wasn't sure if he was wrong.

And that was the most terrifying part of all.
