Chapter 19 — The Madman Called Lola
"Hehehe… what an idiot," Lola laughed wildly. "Just because you have a Devil Fruit, you think you can act however you want?"
"When I saw those stone figures on the wall and the moving wooden mannequins, I already knew something was wrong."
"But that trick was crude. It's obvious you haven't developed your Devil Fruit very far."
As he spoke, Lola the Fixer slowly stepped backward.
He clearly wanted to find a chance to escape rather than engage Shinji Ikari in a prolonged battle.
"Stop talking," Shinji replied coldly.
"You're not getting away."
Before the sentence finished—
Shinji vanished.
"Shave!"
He reappeared instantly in front of Lola.
"Tempest Kick — Chaos!"
Dozens of slicing wind blades erupted at once.
"Damn it!"
Lola's expression twisted with anger.
"So that's your trick? Navy Six Powers and a Devil Fruit?"
"You really think that's enough to challenge the strong people of the Grand Line?!"
His body bent low like a beast preparing to strike.
Then—
Two alloy steel claws slid out from hidden sleeves, covering the backs of his hands.
"The Six Powers are nothing but beginner techniques!"
"Only a naïve little Marine like you would be proud of mastering one or two moves!"
"The real power of the sea… you wouldn't even see it in your entire lifetime!"
His fingers tensed.
A faint aura gathered at their tips—
Similar to the defensive force of Iron Body, but concentrated into his claws.
In an instant—
His claws slashed forward.
The speed was terrifying.
Shinji barely managed to dodge with Shave.
But Lola vanished as well—
Using the same movement technique.
BOOM!
When his claws struck the cave wall, strange marks appeared.
A deep hole formed—
Surrounded by shattered claw prints.
He wasn't just slashing.
He was also firing Finger Pistol strikes with his claws.
"Shave… and Finger Pistol…"
This man had mastered multiple techniques.
And that was before even using his Devil Fruit ability.
"What's wrong?" Lola sneered.
"Starting to get scared?"
"Hahahaha!"
"A brat who's never seen the world trembles the moment he glimpses its edge!"
His laughter echoed crazily through the tunnel.
He sounded unstable.
Almost mad.
But Shinji kept staring at him.
Unflinching.
Those calm eyes irritated Lola even more.
"You can't escape," Shinji said quietly.
"And you're not going to prison either."
"I'll make sure you never leave here alive."
The battle intensified.
Shinji dodged repeatedly—
But Lola's attacks only grew faster.
Stone fragments and dust filled the cave.
"Stop staring at me with those wolf eyes!" Lola roared.
"A worthless brat like you will beg for mercy the moment I pin you down!"
"Die! Die!"
His movements accelerated further.
At last—
Shinji couldn't dodge in time.
WHOOSH!
Lola suddenly shifted direction mid-attack.
His Finger Pistol strikes rained down across Shinji's body.
Then the steel claws tore across his chest.
Blood splashed onto the cave floor.
"Hahaha!"
"Why did you slow down?"
"Little Marine… your Shave isn't nearly as fast as mine."
Lola laughed wildly.
His long white hair spilled over his shoulders.
His boots, reinforced with metal spikes, scraped against the stone floor.
Yet deep inside—
Something else was happening.
Shinji's eyes reminded him of something.
Something he hated.
Because once—
Long ago—
Lola had possessed those same eyes.
Years earlier, Lola had been a rising pirate.
He became a captain at a young age.
He had eaten a Devil Fruit by chance.
He mastered Shave and Finger Pistol, and his strength quickly surpassed ordinary fighters.
Confident and ambitious—
He sailed into the New World.
His bounty surpassed 100 million Berries.
He believed his legend had just begun.
But fate proved him wrong.
By accident, he entered the territory of Big Mom.
He never even saw the face of the Four Emperors.
One of Big Mom's ministers alone destroyed everything.
His crew.
His dreams.
His pride.
No one survived.
Except him.
The power of the New World crushed him completely.
After escaping back to the Grand Line, it took him a full year just to recover.
From that moment—
Lola abandoned ambition.
He became obsessed with external power instead.
He killed without restraint.
He robbed and slaughtered endlessly.
Eventually he gathered a new crew—people who loved violence, treasure, and pleasure just like him.
Within the nearby seas—
Between Hot Summer Island, Storm Island, and Hidden Dragon Island—
Lola became a tyrant.
He even called himself the Emperor of the Sea of these waters.
Then he heard the legend of Storm Bay.
A weapon capable of unleashing storms.
If he obtained it—
Maybe he could return to the New World.
Maybe he could defeat the minister who had destroyed his life.
Driven by obsession, he searched everywhere.
Finally—
He discovered two treasure maps.
One showed the entrances to the four caves.
The other revealed the safest route to the Storm Shell hidden at the center.
Everything had gone perfectly.
Until now.
Until he met Shinji—
A Marine even younger than he had been.
A Devil Fruit user.
A rising fighter mastering the Six Powers.
And those eyes—
Those fearless eyes.
They reminded Lola too much of his former self.
And he hated it.
Water droplets fell from the cave ceiling.
Drip.
Drip.
Lola's thoughts lasted only a moment.
Like his Finger Pistol, his mind moved with explosive speed.
"Die!"
His claws flashed again.
Shinji's body was soon covered in wounds.
Yet he forced himself back onto his feet.
His Life Fruit continued feeding vitality into his body.
But even so—
He was severely injured.
Shave gave him speed.
Tempest Kick gave him attack power.
Iron Body strengthened his defense.
But the enemy before him—
Was faster.
Stronger.
More ruthless.
"Iron Body!"
"Freeze!"
Lola's Devil Fruit ability activated.
Shinji's body suddenly locked in place.
He couldn't move.
The Fix-Fix Fruit had immobilized him completely.
All he could do was brace himself with Iron Body.
Lola stepped forward slowly.
"You know something?"
"When we first fought, I could have frozen you immediately."
"But I didn't."
"I wanted to wait."
"I wanted to see your face when you finally lost all hope."
"Beg for mercy, little Marine."
But Shinji didn't beg.
He simply stared.
Those same steady eyes.
"I said—"
"STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT!"
Lola exploded in rage.
His claws struck Shinji again and again.
Bones cracked.
Blood splattered across the cave walls.
Shinji's body couldn't move.
He couldn't even speak.
But his eyes—
Never wavered.
