Chapter 15 - Patience and Power

The sun had begun its slow descent, casting long shadows across the Raizen training grounds. What had once been filled with the loud clashing of warriors now carried a strange tension, quieter, heavier, as if something unseen had settled over the land.

Nyx stood at the edge of the field, unmoving.

Watching.

Listening.

Learning.

Around him, the Raizen warriors resumed their training, but it was different now. Their movements were sharper, more cautious. Their eyes wandered, glancing toward him more often than they intended.

They had felt it.

Even if they did not understand it.

Kael leaned against a broken stone pillar nearby, arms crossed, his gaze fixed on Nyx. "You've stirred something up," he said casually. "They're not fighting the same anymore."

Nyx didn't look at him. "Good."

Kael raised an eyebrow. "Good?"

"Yes," Nyx replied. "Fear refines instinct. It forces awareness."

Kael let out a soft scoff. "Or it makes people reckless."

Nyx finally turned his head slightly. "Only the weak become reckless."

Their eyes met briefly.

Kael smirked. "You really believe that, don't you?"

Nyx didn't answer.

Because he did.

Silence stretched between them, broken only by the distant sounds of sparring. Then, after a moment, Kael pushed himself off the pillar and walked closer.

"You're not just here to observe anymore," he said. "I can see it."

Nyx's gaze shifted back to the training grounds. "Observation never ends."

Kael stopped beside him. "Then what are you waiting for?"

Nyx's eyes narrowed slightly.

"The right moment."

Kael frowned. "For what?"

Nyx didn't answer immediately. Instead, he watched as two warriors clashed in the center of the field. Their movements were aggressive, filled with power but lacking precision. One overextended. The other capitalized, landing a heavy blow that sent him crashing to the ground.

Nyx spoke quietly.

"That."

Kael followed his gaze. "A mistake?"

"A pattern," Nyx corrected.

Kael crossed his arms again. "You talk like everything here is predictable."

Nyx's voice remained calm. "Because it is."

Before Kael could respond—

A sharp voice cut through the air.

"You again."

Both of them turned.

The Raizen captain approached, his expression darker than before. The earlier encounter had not left him untouched. There was tension in his movements now, restraint layered over his aggression.

But the anger remained.

"You haven't left," the captain said.

Nyx met his gaze. "I wasn't told to."

The captain's jaw tightened. "Don't test me."

Kael sighed under his breath. "Here we go again…"

Nyx remained still. "You're already being tested."

The captain took a step forward, his aura beginning to rise again. "You think you can walk in here, insult us, and stay?"

Nyx tilted his head slightly. "If I wanted to insult you… you would know."

A ripple of murmurs spread among the nearby warriors.

"Is he serious?"

"He's provoking him…"

Kael rubbed the back of his neck. "You really don't know when to stop, do you?"

Nyx ignored him.

The captain's aura flared, stronger this time, more controlled but still burning with intensity. "Then maybe you need to be reminded where you stand."

Nyx's eyes sharpened slightly.

"Show me."

The words landed like a spark in dry grass.

The surrounding warriors quickly backed away, forming a wide circle. The air grew tense, anticipation building with every passing second.

Kael stepped back as well, muttering, "This is going to get messy…"

The captain rolled his shoulders, his energy gathering around him like a storm. "Don't regret this."

Nyx stood calmly, his posture relaxed, almost indifferent.

"I won't."

For a brief moment—

Silence.

Then—

The captain moved.

Faster than before.

Stronger than before.

His fist shot forward, carrying far more power than his previous attacks. The air itself seemed to ripple under the force.

But Nyx didn't move immediately.

He watched.

Measured.

Calculated.

At the last possible moment—

He stepped aside.

The attack missed again.

But this time, the captain adjusted mid-motion, twisting his body and launching a follow-up strike.

Nyx's eyes flickered.

Better.

He raised his arm, blocking the strike with minimal effort. The impact echoed, but his body didn't budge.

The captain's eyes widened slightly.

"You're learning," Nyx said calmly.

"I'm adapting," the captain growled.

Nyx's lips curved faintly. "Not fast enough."

The captain roared, unleashing a barrage of attacks, each one heavier than the last. His movements became more complex, less predictable.

Or at least—

That's what he believed.

Nyx moved through them like water.

Every strike missed.

Every movement wasted.

Every effort… futile.

Kael watched from the side, his expression slowly changing. "…This isn't a fight," he muttered. "He's… playing with him."

The realization spread among the others.

"He's not even trying…"

"How is that possible?"

The captain's breathing grew heavier. Frustration crept into his movements.

"Stand still!" he roared.

Nyx stopped.

Just like that.

The sudden stillness caught everyone off guard.

The captain didn't hesitate.

He charged, gathering all his strength into a single, powerful strike.

"This ends now!"

His fist shot forward—

And Nyx didn't dodge.

Gasps erupted from the crowd.

"He's going to take it?!"

Kael's eyes widened. "What are you—"

The strike landed.

Or rather—

It should have.

Because the moment it made contact—

It stopped.

Completely.

Nyx's hand had caught it.

Effortlessly.

Silence fell over the entire field.

The captain froze, his eyes locked on the hand gripping his fist.

"…Impossible…"

Nyx looked at him calmly.

"This is the difference," he said.

Before the captain could react—

Nyx twisted his wrist slightly.

Not enough to injure.

Just enough to break his balance.

Then—

He stepped forward.

And pushed.

Again, it wasn't flashy.

But the result was undeniable.

The captain was sent stumbling backward, his body unable to resist the force behind that simple motion. He barely managed to stay on his feet this time, his breathing heavy, his expression shaken.

Nyx lowered his hand slowly.

"Power without control is meaningless," he said.

No one spoke.

No one moved.

Even the wind seemed to hold its breath.

Kael exhaled slowly. "…You didn't even use your full strength."

Nyx didn't respond.

Because he hadn't.

Not even close.

The captain steadied himself, his fists clenched tightly. But this time, he didn't charge again.

He understood now.

At least… partially.

"…Who are you?" he asked again, his voice quieter.

Nyx looked at him.

And for a moment—

There was something deeper in his gaze.

"I told you," he said. "Someone you're not ready for."

Silence followed.

Heavy.

Undeniable.

Then Nyx turned away.

The fight was over.

Just like that.

Kael watched him go, a slow grin forming on his face. "Yeah…" he muttered. "This is going to change everything."

And behind them—

The Raizen warriors stood in stunned silence.

Because for the first time—

They had witnessed a power they could not understand.

And it terrified them.
