Taking out her mobile phone, Evelyn opened message app and typed out a message to Alexander Rois:
"Alexander, I don't deserve you. Let go."
By the time Alexander saw her message, night had already fallen.
He sat alone in his room, absently playing with his phone, quietly reflecting on the painful weight behind her words.
Rising from his seat, he pushed open the door to the bedroom she had stayed in during her previous visit. The faint, delicate scent of her perfume still seemed to linger in the air.
He picked up his phone and typed back: "Evelyn, if I propose to you, will you say yes?"
Staring at his reply on her screen, Evelyn felt a wave of bittersweet sorrow wash over her.
