Chapter 15 - Chapter 15:The beast unleashed

The facility remained quiet.

Too quiet.

Devin lay motionless, head tilted slightly downward, eyes half-closed as if still weak. But inside, his senses had sharpened beyond anything the suppression systems anticipated. He listened… to footsteps, to air vents, to faint heartbeats moving through the corridors.

Then

He smelled her.

Faint.

But unmistakable.

Amber.

His eyes snapped open for a fraction of a second before he forced them closed again. His pulse accelerated, but he kept his breathing controlled. The scent came from deeper within the facility... multiple reinforced doors away, but close enough.

The rage he'd been compressing ignited.

Now.

The door hissed open.

Two guards stepped in. A technician followed with a handheld scanner. The suppression field dipped slightly as they initiated routine diagnostics.

That was the window.

Devin moved.

Not gradually.

Explosively.

His arms flexed.. the restraints snapped like brittle metal. Symbols flared wildly, sparks bursting from the brackets. The technician barely had time to gasp before Devin surged forward.

Bones cracked.

Fur erupted.

Muscles expanded violently.

He transformed mid-lunge... his Horrifying Alpha form tearing free of suppression in a violent cascade of power. The collar tried to pulse stronger, releasing another wave of inhibitors.. but his evolution had already adapted.

He grabbed the nearest guard.

Crushed.

The second tried to fire a sedation launcher. Devin blurred forward, biting into his shoulder and tearing him off his feet. Blood sprayed across the containment chamber walls. The technician turned to run.. Devin caught him by the leg and slammed him repeatedly into the floor until he stopped moving.

Alarm sirens exploded throughout the facility.

Red lights flashed.

"Containment breach! Asset Devin has escaped!"

Inside the Global Occult Coalition command room, operators stared in disbelief.

"How..... ?!"

"Suppression seals were calibrated!"

"He's already transformed!"

Feeds showed Devin bursting through reinforced doors, ripping them from hinges. Sedation units deployed automatically... turrets firing high-pressure tranquilizer rounds.

They hit him.

They did nothing.

"He's resisting sedation!"

"Escalate dosage!"

More rounds fired. Devin ignored them, charging through the corridor. He grabbed a turret and tore it from the ceiling, throwing it into a security team. The explosion lit the hallway.

"He's heading toward Sector C!"

Amber's last known location.

The room went silent for half a second.

"Deploy all units!" the commander shouted.

Back in the corridors, Devin moved like a nightmare.

He didn't just charge blindly.

He hunted.

One security team formed a defensive line.. he disappeared into the shadows before reaching them. A moment later, one soldier was pulled into a side corridor. Screams cut off instantly. Another turned... Devin was already behind him, claws slicing through armor.

He used stealth.

Then brutality.

He slammed one operative into a wall hard enough to cave in concrete. Another he mauled, tearing through armor plating with his teeth. He moved fast enough that cameras struggled to track him.

A squad tried to flank him.

He leapt onto the ceiling, dropped behind them, and ripped through the formation. Blood streaked across sterile floors.

The sedation drones kept firing.

Each shot failed.

His evolution rejected the compounds instantly.

"He's adapting in real time!" an analyst shouted in the command room.

Devin sniffed again.

Amber's scent.

It was Closer.

He barreled through another door, flattening two guards before they could react. One tried to crawl away... Devin stepped on his back and kept moving.

His eyes burned crimson.

His aura filled the hallways.. suffocating, predatory. Some personnel froze before he even reached them. Others fired wildly.

He didn't slow.

He grabbed one by the helmet and slammed him into another, then tore through both. He kicked open another door and surged forward.

Behind him, the facility was silent.

No alarms now.

Only destruction.

In the command room, panic spread.

"We're losing all teams!"

"Sedation ineffective!"

"Containment failure total!"

"How is the asset doing this?!" someone yelled.

No one answered.

Because the truth was obvious.

He was no longer an asset.

He was a predator unleashed.

And he was heading straight for Amber.

The corridors twisted and echoed with screams, groans, and the wet cracks of destruction.

Devin's claws cut through reinforced doors like paper. The air reeked of blood, smoke, and ozone from the destroyed turrets. The primal pulse inside him throbbed in time with his heart.. raging, insatiable, and focused. Every step, every slash, every impact was precise, yet wildly brutal.

A team of operatives tried to block him near a stairwell. They raised heavy rifles, sedative launchers, even improvised explosives. He paused for a heartbeat.. sniffing, listening and in that instant, he moved faster than thought.

One operative vanished before his colleagues could react. Two more were ripped from their feet; bones shattered audibly. The others froze, eyes wide as Devin's fear aura radiated through the hall, causing some to collapse mid-breath, hearts racing beyond reason.

He didn't pause. Not even for hesitation. His claws raked walls, shattering panels and exposed wiring. Sparks flew. One operative tried a last-minute shot; his bullet bounced harmlessly off Devin's dense, evolved muscle. Devin pivoted and with a single, supersonic lunge, tore the man apart. Flesh, armor, and bone collided with the floor in wet thuds.

Every corridor became a canvas for carnage. He stalked the shadows, allowing himself to be "attacked" now and then.. not out of necessity, but curiosity. Each hit only fueled him further. He grinned faintly, teeth glinting in crimson under the flickering fluorescent lights, as he dismembered those who dared approach.

The facility's reinforced doors and walls were nothing. Concrete shattered under his fists. Steel bent under his claws. The primal energy flowing through him made him almost untouchable. Sedation units fired continuously, their chemical mists enveloping him but he inhaled, laughed silently to himself, and tore through the devices, scattering sparks and shattered glass.

Every few moments, he paused, sniffing the air. Amber's scent grew stronger. Warm. Human. Familiar.

The pulse inside him shifted from rage to something far darker... calculated, fixated. It wasn't just fury anymore. It was hunger, obsession, and vengeance coiling together.

A final squad of operatives attempted to trap him in a reinforced chamber. They fired every projectile, every chemical compound, every electrically charged net at him. He ripped through them. One man's scream was abruptly cut off as Devin lunged into the group, claws tearing, teeth shredding, and limbs flying. By the time Devin reached the center of the chamber, only silence remained.. drenched in red and smoke.

And then he caught her scent clearly, unmistakably. Amber.

He froze for a fraction of a second, the crimson of his eyes flaring brighter, pulsing like a storm. His ears twitched, tracking the sound of her footsteps beyond the reinforced glass of the central containment hallway.

He moved again. Faster. Quieter. A shadow, a blur, a predator slipping between walls. Nothing could stop him. The remaining guards tried to form a barrier, but Devin slashed through them like wind through wheat. Screams echoed faintly behind him, some cutting short as he tore through anyone in his path with precision and malice.

And then he saw her.

Amber, standing at the end of the long corridor, framed by the dim red emergency lighting, her coffee-stained mug still in her hand from earlier briefing rooms. She hadn't expected him to move this fast... her calm demeanor faltered.

Devin's chest heaved with controlled breathing, his frame massive and monstrous even in human-like posture. His claws dripped crimson, his fur darkened unnaturally in patches, and his eyes glowed like twin lanterns of rage. His lips pulled back in a feral grin.

He crouched low, muscles tensing, as though the world itself slowed around him. The suppression collar still hummed faintly, but it didn't matter. He was beyond containment. Beyond control. Beyond mercy.

Amber's eyes widened. She instinctively backed up, raising her hands in mock defense, but Devin didn't stop at fear. He stalked forward, predatory, every step precise, every movement full of lethal grace.

The facility, the G.O.C, the sedation systems.. all of it was meaningless now. Nothing existed except him and her.

His low growl vibrated in the corridor, a sound not entirely human, not entirely beast.. a warning and a promise. His voice, when he spoke, was calm but edged with absolute menace:

"Hello… Amber."

Every instinct within him screamed, every primal thought surged, and the predator had reached its target. The hunt wasn't over... it was now personal.
