The deeper Arain descended into the Forbidden Forest, the more the world began to resemble a nightmare carved from obsidian.
The air here didn't just carry mist; it carried whispers—the faint, lingering echoes of souls that had been consumed by the trees over millennia. To a normal knight, these whispers would cause madness. To Arain, they were a choir.
[Location: The Threshold of Zone 3 – The Onyx Veins.]
[Ambient Mana: 95% Darkness Alignment.]
Arain stopped at the edge of a massive ravine. Below him, the ground split open like a jagged wound, leading into the Onyx Caverns. Glowing purple crystals jutted from the walls, casting a sickly, ethereal light that struggled to push back the encroaching shadows.
"System," Arain whispered, his breath visible in the freezing air. "Scan the cave entrance. I don't want any surprises from the Queen's guard."
[Scanning... Multiple High-Density Mana Signatures Detected.]
[Identity: Obsidian Arachnids (Rank 4). Number: 12.]
[Note: These creatures share a hive-mind with the Night-Stalker Queen.]
Arain tilted his head, a single grey rune on his neck pulsing with a dim light. "Rank 4... and they work as a team. This will be the first true test of my Tier 1 Core."
He didn't use 'Shadow Leap'. Instead, he stepped off the cliff.
As he fell, the shadows around his small body didn't just swirl; they solidified. They formed a sleek, translucent cloak that acted like wings, slowing his descent until he landed silently in the center of the cavern floor.
The Arachnids didn't wait. They were three meters tall, their bodies covered in armor harder than steel, their eyes glowing with a malevolent red light. They moved in perfect unison, six of them lunging from the ceiling while the others circled Arain on the ground.
"You're fast," Arain mused, his hand reaching into the air as if grabbing something invisible. "But you're still part of the cycle. And in this cycle... I am the predator."
"Abyss Sovereign Skill: Shadow Extraction – Second Form: Needle."
Arain didn't throw a punch. He flicked his fingers.
The shadows of the Arachnids themselves suddenly betrayed them. From beneath each beast, a needle-thin spike of pure Abyssal mana erupted. It didn't aim for their armor; it aimed for the gaps in their joints, the soft underbelly where their mana was most concentrated.
Skreeeeeee!
The cavern echoed with their metallic screams. Four of the Arachnids were pinned to the walls instantly, their legs twitching as the black needles began to drain their essence.
The remaining eight realized this wasn't a normal meal. They retreated, clicking their mandibles in a rhythmic pattern—a distress call.
"Calling for your mother?" Arain smiled, his red eyes reflecting the purple glow of the crystals. "Good. Tell her the Eclipse has arrived."
Suddenly, the ground beneath Arain trembled. A vibration so deep it felt like the mountain itself was groaning. From the darkest depths of the cave, a presence emerged that made the Rank 4 Arachnids look like ants.
A thick, viscous shadow began to pour out of the main tunnel. It didn't move like smoke; it moved like blood.
[Warning: Boss Entity Detected!]
[Name: The Night-Stalker Queen (Larva Phase - Rank 6)]
[Threat Level: Extreme.]
A colossal figure emerged. Half-woman, half-spider, her skin was the color of bruised plums, and her hair was made of writhing shadow-tentacles. She didn't growl. She spoke—a telepathic voice that vibrated inside Arain's skull.
"A human child... with the scent of the Old Void? Who are you, little spark? Why do you disturb the Queen's rest?"
Arain stood his ground, his small frame looking insignificant against her ten-meter height. Yet, he didn't flinch. He raised his hand, the Solar Crystal he had stolen from the Sun-Eaters appearing in his palm, now pulsing with a dark, corrupted violet light.
"I am the one who will end your hunger, Queen," Arain replied, his voice calm and resonant. "And in exchange, I will take your heart for my ritual. Don't worry... your soul will serve a much higher purpose than rot."
The Queen's many eyes narrowed. The air in the cavern turned to ice.
"Arrogance," she hissed. "I have eaten kings. I will enjoy cracking your small bones."
Arain's shadow began to expand, covering the cavern floor, merging with the Queen's own darkness.
"Let's see who eats whom," Arain whispered.
"Abyss Domain: Activate."
The purple crystals shattered. The cavern vanished into total, absolute blackness. The fight for the second sacrifice had begun.
