Chapter 48 - The Stranger Who Knows Her Name

Lirien Voss walked out of Literature 301 with her notebook tucked under her arm, the golden warmth in her chest still humming faintly like a half-remembered song. The lecture on ancient myths had left her unsettled in a way she couldn't quite explain. Every time the professor mentioned Prometheus or bound titans, something inside her stirred — not quite memory, but close enough to make her skin prickle.

She was halfway down the hallway when she heard footsteps behind her — confident, purposeful strides that didn't match the usual shuffle of tired students.

"You."

The voice was deep, commanding, and far too authoritative for a random classmate. Lirien turned.

The tall guy from the back of the lecture hall was walking toward her. Dark hair, sharp jawline, wearing a plain black hoodie and jeans that somehow looked unnatural on him, as if he wasn't used to modern clothes. His eyes locked onto hers with an intensity that made the golden spark inside her flare suddenly, warm and insistent.

He stopped a few feet away, studying her like she was the only person in the crowded corridor.

"You do not remember me yet," he said, voice low and carrying the weight of someone who was used to being obeyed. "The seal hides much. But I remember everything. The sanctum. The battles. The bond we share. You are Lirien Voss, and you are mine."

Lirien stared at him, heart skipping a beat. The words should have sounded ridiculous — creepy, even. Instead, they sent a strange jolt through her, like touching a live wire. The golden warmth in her chest pulsed brighter, almost reaching toward him.

"I'm sorry," she said carefully, taking a small step back. "Do I know you? Because I'm pretty sure I would remember someone who talks like that."

He tilted his head slightly, a faint, almost amused smile touching his lips. It didn't look like a normal college student's smile. It looked like a king granting a small mercy.

"You will remember in time," he replied, stepping closer. "The spark inside you still burns. It knows me, even if your mind does not. I am Kairos Vale in this world… but that is not who I truly am. And you, my eternal slave, are far more than the girl who sits in the back of lectures."

Lirien's cheeks heated. "Stop calling me that. Seriously. I don't know what kind of role-play thing you're doing, but I'm not interested."

Kairos didn't seem fazed. He glanced around at the passing students, then lowered his voice further.

"This world is strange to me. These… machines that glow and speak without souls. The way people move without purpose. I do not yet understand all of it. But I understand one thing clearly: you are here. And I was brought here for you. The bond still lives, even if the memories are sealed."

He offered his hand — palm up, as if expecting her to take it without question.

Lirien looked at his hand, then back at his face. Something about him felt dangerously familiar. Not in a creepy-stalker way, but in a way that made the golden spark inside her want to reach out and touch him.

She didn't take his hand.

Instead, she crossed her arms. "If you really know me, prove it. Tell me something only I would know."

Kairos's eyes darkened with something ancient and possessive. He leaned in just enough that his next words were for her ears alone.

"You once told me on a battlefield that you would rather die fighting beside me than live as someone's slave. And I told you that you would never be just a slave again — that you had become my consort, my warrior, my equal."

Lirien's breath caught.

She didn't remember saying those words.

But they felt true.

The golden spark flared so brightly she had to steady herself against the wall.

Kairos watched her reaction with quiet satisfaction. "You feel it, don't you? The pull. The warmth. It is the bond. It remembers even when you do not."

Lirien swallowed hard, trying to regain her balance. "This is insane. I don't know you. I don't remember any of this."

"Not yet," he said softly. "But you will. And when you do, you will understand why I crossed worlds to find you again."

He straightened, the commanding aura around him softening just a fraction.

"For now, I will walk with you to your next class. This world is… confusing. These glowing rectangles and metal carriages. I do not yet know how to navigate them properly. But I know how to protect what is mine."

Lirien stared at him for a long moment, equal parts wary, curious, and inexplicably drawn to him.

Finally, she sighed.

"Fine. You can walk with me. But if you call me 'eternal slave' again in public, I'm pretending I don't know you."

Kairos's lips curved into a slow, dangerous smile.

"As you wish… for now."

They started walking down the hallway together.

Lirien didn't know who this strange, intense guy was.

But the golden spark inside her already did.

And somewhere deep down, a part of her that she couldn't quite reach remembered the feeling of being claimed — completely, fiercely, and without regret.

The reunion had begun.

Quietly.

Dangerously.

And neither of them was ready for what it would awaken.
