Chapter 47 - The Stranger in the Lecture Hall

Lirien sat near the back of the lecture hall in Literature 301, notebook open, pen tapping idly against the page. The professor was discussing ancient myths and their echoes in modern storytelling, but her mind kept drifting. That strange golden warmth in her chest hadn't gone away since she woke up this morning. It felt like something important was missing — a dream she couldn't quite remember, a piece of herself that had been tucked away.

The door opened late.

A tall guy walked in, moving with the kind of presence that made the entire room pause for a second. Dark hair, sharp features, wearing a simple black hoodie and jeans that somehow looked wrong on him — like he wasn't used to the fabric. He scanned the seats until his eyes landed on her.

Recognition hit his face like lightning.

He walked straight down the aisle and dropped into the empty seat right beside her without asking permission.

Lirien glanced sideways, startled. Something about him felt… familiar. Not in a normal way. More like déjà vu mixed with a jolt of electricity. The golden warmth in her chest stirred, curious and unsettled.

The professor cleared his throat. "Mr. Vale, glad you could join us. Try to be on time next lecture."

Kairos Vale didn't look at the professor. His gaze stayed locked on Lirien, intense and unwavering.

"You," he said quietly, voice carrying the weight of someone used to commanding armies. "I have been searching for you."

Lirien blinked. "Excuse me?"

He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice so only she could hear. "You do not remember me yet. The seal hides much. But I remember everything. The sanctum. The battles. The bond we share. You are Lirien Voss, and you are mine."

His words should have sounded completely insane. Instead, they sent a strange shiver down her spine — not fear, but something deeper, like a half-forgotten melody suddenly playing in her mind.

She stared at him, heart beating faster. "I don't know you. And I'm definitely not 'yours.'"

Kairos's lips curved into a slow, confident smile that didn't belong on a regular college student. "You will remember in time. The spark inside you still burns. It knows me, even if your mind does not yet."

The professor called for attention again, but Kairos didn't seem to care. He sat back, arms crossed, radiating the kind of authority that made the people around them shift uncomfortably in their seats.

Throughout the rest of the lecture, he kept stealing glances at her, muttering under his breath things like "Still defiant… good" and "The golden light is still there."

When class finally ended, Kairos stood immediately, towering over her even in this new, average-height body.

"We need to speak in private," he said, tone leaving no room for argument. "There are things you must know, even if the memories are sealed for now. The world is not as safe as it seems."

Lirien gathered her things, equal parts intrigued and wary. "Look, I don't know what game you're playing, but—"

"It is no game," he interrupted, voice dropping to a commanding register that sent another unexpected shiver through her. "You are important. More important than you realize. And I will not allow harm to come to what is mine."

He offered his hand.

Lirien hesitated… then took it.

The moment their skin touched, the golden spark inside her flared brightly, warm and familiar, as if recognizing its other half.

Kairos's grip tightened slightly, a satisfied glint in his eyes.

"Come," he said. "We have much to discuss, my eternal slave."

Lirien pulled her hand back, cheeks flushing. "Stop calling me that."

Kairos only smiled — dark, confident, and completely out of place in a university hallway.

"As you wish… for now."

They walked out of the lecture hall together, the golden warmth in Lirien's chest pulsing stronger than ever.

She didn't remember him.

But something inside her already did.

And the stranger who called himself Kairos Vale walked beside her like a king who had just found his lost queen.
