Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Entering the Inner Sect

Night had already fallen over the Azure Cloud Sect when the final results of the Inner Sect Trial were announced. The mountain peaks were illuminated by rows of lanterns that glowed softly in the darkness, giving the ancient sect an almost mystical appearance. For the twenty disciples who had survived and ranked high enough, this night marked the beginning of a completely new life.

Lin Ye stood among them, looking up toward the towering mountain path that led deeper into the sect's territory. Compared to the outer disciple grounds, the inner sect area was vastly different. The spiritual energy in the air alone felt richer, heavier, almost alive.

"…No wonder everyone wants to come here," Lin Ye muttered.

Beside him, Gu Chen nodded slightly.

"The cultivation environment here is far superior."

Lin Ye stretched his arms lazily.

"Good. That means getting stronger will be easier."

Gu Chen glanced at him briefly.

"…Or more dangerous."

Lin Ye grinned.

"That too."

Ahead of them, the silver-haired elder who had overseen the trial raised his hand, signaling for silence.

"Follow us," he instructed calmly. "Your new lives as Inner Sect disciples begin tonight."

The group began moving up the long stone staircase carved into the mountain. Each step brought them deeper into the heart of the Azure Cloud Sect. The air grew cooler as they climbed higher, and the spiritual energy surrounding them became increasingly dense.

Lin Ye felt the difference immediately.

His body absorbed the surrounding energy instinctively, causing the demonic bloodline within him to stir slightly.

The system interface flickered briefly in his mind.

[Spiritual Energy Density Increased]

Lin Ye raised an eyebrow.

"…Even the system likes this place."

After nearly twenty minutes of climbing, the group finally reached a wide stone platform near the middle of the mountain. Several large buildings surrounded the platform, their architecture elegant and ancient. Disciples in white and blue robes moved between the buildings calmly, some practicing martial techniques while others discussed cultivation theories.

But when the group of new disciples arrived—

Everything paused.

Dozens of inner disciples turned their attention toward the newcomers.

Some looked curious.

Others looked amused.

A few looked openly dismissive.

Lin Ye sighed quietly.

"…Here we go."

One tall inner disciple stepped forward, crossing his arms as he looked over the group.

"So these are the new trial survivors?"

Another disciple chuckled softly.

"They look half-dead."

Lin Ye scratched the back of his head.

"…Not wrong."

The silver-haired elder stepped forward again.

"These twenty disciples have earned their place in the Inner Sect through the trial."

His gaze swept across the watching disciples.

"Treat them accordingly."

Several of the inner disciples nodded respectfully, though a few still looked unimpressed.

One of them, a muscular young man with sharp eyes, stepped closer.

His gaze quickly moved across the newcomers before stopping on Zhao Tian.

"…You're the one who defeated the Iron Fang group during the trial."

Zhao Tian remained calm.

"They attacked me first."

The muscular disciple smirked.

"Good."

His eyes then moved toward Gu Chen.

"I've heard about your discipline techniques."

Gu Chen simply nodded.

Finally—

His gaze landed on Lin Ye.

He frowned slightly.

"…And you?"

Lin Ye pointed to himself.

"Me?"

The disciple crossed his arms.

"I heard rumors about someone called Blood Shadow."

Lin Ye sighed.

"…Those rumors spread fast."

Several inner disciples nearby leaned forward with interest.

The muscular disciple studied Lin Ye carefully.

"So you're the one with the demonic bloodline?"

The moment those words were spoken, the atmosphere shifted.

Several disciples' expressions changed.

Some looked curious.

Others looked wary.

Lin Ye scratched his cheek.

"…I prefer the term 'misunderstood.'"

A few disciples snorted with laughter.

But the muscular disciple didn't smile.

"Demonic cultivators don't usually last long in righteous sects."

Lin Ye shrugged casually.

"I guess we'll find out."

Before the tension could grow further, another voice spoke calmly.

"That's enough."

All eyes turned instantly.

Su Qingyue stepped forward from the side of the platform.

Her white robes moved gently as she walked, her presence instantly quieting the crowd. Even the arrogant inner disciples seemed reluctant to challenge her authority.

Her gaze swept across the new disciples briefly before stopping on Lin Ye again.

"…You survived the trial."

Lin Ye smiled faintly.

"Barely."

Su Qingyue studied him for a moment.

"The demonic aura around you is stronger than before."

Lin Ye shrugged.

"Occupational hazard."

Several disciples nearby whispered quietly.

"She's talking to him directly…"

"Since when does Senior Sister Qingyue pay attention to new disciples?"

Lin Ye noticed the whispers too.

"…You're making me famous again," he said under his breath.

Su Qingyue ignored the comment.

Instead, she turned toward the elders.

"These disciples will be assigned residences tonight."

The silver-haired elder nodded.

"They will."

He gestured toward the buildings behind the platform.

"The Inner Sect is divided into several training areas. Each of you will receive your own residence and cultivation resources according to your trial ranking."

The announcement immediately caught everyone's attention.

Resources.

Training grounds.

These were the real rewards of entering the Inner Sect.

One elder began reading the rankings aloud.

"First place: Zhao Tian."

Zhao Tian remained calm as expected.

"Second place: Gu Chen."

Gu Chen nodded slightly.

"Third place: Lin Ye."

Lin Ye blinked.

"…Third?"

He hadn't expected that.

Gu Chen glanced at him.

"You fought Zhao Tian until the final moment."

Zhao Tian added casually, "And you collected many tokens."

Lin Ye chuckled.

"…Guess I did better than I thought."

The elder continued reading the rest of the rankings.

When the announcement finished, the silver-haired elder raised his hand again.

"You are now officially Inner Sect disciples of the Azure Cloud Sect."

A wave of excitement spread through the new members.

Years of struggle had finally paid off.

But Lin Ye remained calm.

Because he knew something important.

Joining the Inner Sect wasn't the end of the journey.

It was the beginning of a far more dangerous one.

As the crowd began to disperse, Su Qingyue passed by Lin Ye.

She paused briefly beside him.

Her voice was quiet.

"…Control your power."

Lin Ye looked at her curiously.

"Or what?"

She didn't hesitate.

"Or someone will kill you before you destroy yourself."

Then she walked away without another word.

Lin Ye stared after her for a moment before laughing softly.

"…Charming."

Gu Chen stepped beside him again.

"She's not wrong."

Lin Ye sighed.

"I know."

He looked up toward the towering inner sect buildings.

"…Looks like things are about to get complicated."

Gu Chen nodded.

"In the Inner Sect…"

"…everyone is dangerous."

Lin Ye smiled faintly.

"Good."

Because danger meant one thing.

Opportunity.

And Lin Ye had never been the type to walk away from that.
