"I have a lot to explain," Phoenix said, "and I do not want to overwhelm you before you are properly better. I know you have questions. We can start with the easier ones for now."
I narrowed my eyes at him but nodded. Fair enough, for the moment.
Leo pulled a chair to the other side of my bed and took my free hand, pressing his lips to my wrist. The relief on his face was so obvious and so genuine that it made my chest ache in the best possible way. "I am glad you are awake," he said. "But what was that about the water?"
I wrinkled my nose at the slightly nervous laugh he let out. "They poisoned the water at the camp. I had to be sure."
His expression shifted. "Poisoned how?"
"A potion. It got rid of wolves. Stopped them from shifting or linking." I kept it brief because saying more than that required more energy than I currently had.
