Chapter 8 - A Pair of Dragons

In the enormous mountain range rising across the western edge of the continent, where the world itself seemed to sharpen into jagged peaks, there existed a place few would ever expect life to begin.

A brutal land.

Endless cold winds carved through the mountains like invisible blades, while the skies above were so accumulated with heavy molecules of mana that only existed in the high skies. even the air felt thick and ancient.

It was a place that should have rejected life entirely, and yet… at the very peak of the tallest mountain in the entire range, something appeared.

An egg.

A deep blue egg, its surface shining faintly beneath the pale sky. Across its shell spread black veins twisting like living shadows beneath crystal.

Then—

Boom… boom~

A heartbeat.

Slow.

Heavy.

The sound echoed across the mountain range like the pulse of the world itself.

Boom… boom~

The second beat spread even farther.

Across forests, oceans, plains and skies. A cross the whole planet.

In mere moments, the sound resonate through the mana that flowed across the entire planet, announcing the arrival of a new existence.

Far away, in distant corners of the world, four beings felt it.

The Origin Spirits, each one instantly understood that someone new was about to be born.

A new creature.

A new species.

Just as their master had once foretold.

One of them looked excited, her eyes shining brightly.

Another thinking about her last encounter with her master as she gets red.

One appeared uninterested, almost bored… yet the faintest smile quietly formed on her red lips.

And the last one… she felt something different, a quiet worry. She knew that from know on things would be different, yet for the better... or the worse.

Meanwhile, high above the world—

BOOM… BOOM

The heartbeat grew stronger, louder and more powerful.

And then…

Something strange happened. The rhythm shifted. The pulse doubled. Two heartbeats. Two powerful pulses of life echoing together.

Back on my couch, my gaze remained fixed on the egg far away in the mountains.

The rhythm was impossible to mistake now as each beat heavy with raw mana. each pulse stronger than the last.

It would only take a few more minutes before they finally emerged.

The beating intensified. hard. strong. overflowing with power, And unmistakably… Two.

I rested my chin on my hand and let out a small amused breath.

"…Twins, huh?"

Minutes passed.

Quiet ones.

Then—

CRACK~!

A sharp sound split through the frozen air at the peak of the mountain. A thin fracture spread across the blue shell.

Another followed.

Then another.

The egg trembled violently as the dark veins running across its surface pulsed with mana.

CRACK—CRACK—CRACK!

Pieces of the shell began breaking away one after another until the entire egg finally split apart.

From the shattered shell, two small shapes slowly emerged.

The first thing to notice… was the wings.

Massive compared to their tiny bodies, folded awkwardly against their backs like cloaks far too large for them. Scales covered them from head to tail, smooth and glimmering beneath the sky.

One shimmered with deep sapphire blue scales that reflected the surrounding mana like crystal while the other bore darker scales, nearly black, with faint silver lines running between them like cracks of moonlight.

Two small heads slowly lifted from the broken shell.

Their eyes opened looking bright and reflect the heavy mana that surrounded their bodies.

And far too intelligent for creatures that had only just entered the world. The blue one stretched first, its wings twitching slightly as cold wind rushed past the mountain peak, in the other hand the darker one blinked slowly, scanning the endless skies and distant lands below with quiet curiosity.

For a moment, neither of them moved.

Then—

"Rrrr…?"

A small, confused sound escaped one of them. the other immediately answered with a softer rumble.

High above the newborn world, two young dragons had taken their very first breath.

And with that single breath, the mana surrounding the mountain surged wildly, spiraling through the skies like a storm celebrating their birth.

Back on my couch, I watched the scene unfold.

Two dragons.

Twins.

The blue one who was clearly a female and the darker one who was a male.

A strange phenomenon.

Yet as I observed them, a thought quietly surfaced in my mind. One of those thoughts that seemed to appear without origin. Not something I had learned… but something I simply knew.

Instinct.

I knew that every species that would be born in this world… the very first of their kind… would appear as a pair, male and female, a natural design, and a balance that meant to ensure the continuation of the specie.

Something that even i had no power over.

"Hooof~!"

The small female dragon suddenly flapped her wings excitedly, the massive limbs moving clumsily as she tried to understand how they worked.

The male watched for a moment… Then immediately started doing the same.

The two young dragons stumbled, flapped, slipped, and nearly rolled down the mountain several times while attempting to control their wings.

But dragons were creatures born for the skies as it didn't take long.

Within minutes—

The two of them leapt from the mountain peak. wind roared past their scales as their wings spread wide for the very first time.

A moment of falling.

Then—

Lift.

The air caught beneath their wings, and the pair soared upward into the endless sky, circling the mountain range for the first time and eventually, their flight steadied, and the twins began drifting across the skies, instinctively searching for a place to call their home.

Meanwhile…

At the farthest southern edge of the world... The South Pole.

A place untouched by sunlight. There, the mana of the world behaved differently. Mana that had never felt the warmth of the sun, a one that had drifted too far from its origin… the Tree of Life.

Dark mana.

Cold, heavy und unstable.

Over countless years, that mana gathered together, forming a violent storm of swirling energy. and above that storm hung the Second Crimson Moon, bathing the land in a red glow.

And beneath its beautiful, haunting light… The storm intensified.

Dark mana twisted and condensed into a single point at the center of the blizzard. The ground cracked and the storm roared louder.

And from the heart of that violent darkness... The second species of the world began to emerge.
