Chapter 16 - Something Inside Me Changed

Elena woke up slower this time.

Not because she was tired—

But because her body felt… different.

Heavier.

Yet somehow—

Stronger.

Her eyes opened quietly.

The room was the same.

The ceiling.

The silence.

But something inside her—

Wasn't.

She sat up slowly.

No sharp pain.

No overwhelming weakness.

Just a dull ache.

"…That's new."

Her voice was calm.

Too calm.

She paused.

Frowning slightly.

"…Why am I not panicking?"

After everything that happened—

After almost disappearing—

Shouldn't she feel more afraid?

More broken?

Her hand moved to her chest.

That warmth—

Still there.

But now—

Stable.

Quiet.

Listening.

"…You changed."

The voice came from across the room.

She turned.

The figure was there.

Watching her.

More carefully than usual.

Elena tilted her head slightly.

"…You noticed?"

"Yes."

A pause.

"…Too quickly."

She blinked.

"…Is that bad again?"

"…It's dangerous."

Of course it was.

She let out a small breath.

"…Everything about me is dangerous now, huh?"

Silence.

Then—

"…Yes."

She almost laughed.

"…At least you're honest."

Elena stood up.

Slowly.

Testing her body.

Her balance.

Her strength.

No shaking.

No weakness.

Her movements felt…

Cleaner.

"…I feel faster."

She stepped forward.

Then again.

"…More aware."

The figure didn't interrupt.

Just watched.

"…Your senses are adjusting."

"To what?"

A pause.

"…To existing."

She frowned.

"…That still sounds weird."

"It is."

"Show me."

Elena blinked.

"…What?"

"Move."

Simple.

Direct.

She didn't question it.

She stepped forward—

Then stopped.

"…Wait… how?"

"However you want."

Not helpful.

At all.

"…You're really bad at explaining things."

"…Move."

She sighed.

"…Fine."

Her body tensed slightly.

Her mind focused.

That warmth—

Responded instantly.

A soft pulse.

Then—

She moved.

Faster than before.

Much faster.

She stopped suddenly—

Eyes widening.

"…That was—"

"Yes."

"…Not normal."

"No."

Her heart skipped.

"…I didn't even try that hard…"

The figure stepped closer.

"…That's the problem."

Her smile faded slightly.

"…Of course it is."

"Again."

She moved.

Faster.

Sharper.

More controlled.

Step.

Turn.

Stop.

Each movement felt easier.

More natural.

Like her body was learning something she never knew before.

"…This feels…"

She hesitated.

"…Good."

The word surprised even her.

Good?

After everything?

After everything she lost?

"…That's not right, is it…?"

The figure didn't answer immediately.

"…Power always feels good."

A pause.

"…That's why it's dangerous."

Her chest tightened slightly.

"…So I'm supposed to hate this?"

"No."

A shake of the head.

"You're supposed to understand it."

Elena slowed down.

Her breathing steady.

Her mind clearer than before.

"…I almost disappeared."

She said it quietly.

Not as fear.

But as fact.

"…And now I feel stronger."

Her fingers curled slightly.

"…That doesn't make sense."

"It doesn't have to."

A pause.

"You crossed a limit."

"And survived."

Her gaze lowered.

"…Barely."

"But you did."

Silence.

Then—

"…So what does that mean?"

The figure looked at her.

Carefully.

"…It means next time…"

A pause.

"…You'll go further."

Her breath caught.

"…Further?"

"Yes."

"And if I can't control it?"

A silence.

Then—

"…Then you disappear."

The words didn't shake her this time.

Not like before.

She just nodded slowly.

"…Okay."

The figure frowned slightly.

"…You're not reacting."

"I am."

She looked up.

Her eyes calmer now.

Stronger.

"I'm just not running anymore."

Silence.

A long one.

Then—

"…Good."

"Let's test it."

Elena raised an eyebrow.

"…Test what?"

"You."

Not reassuring.

At all.

"…I feel like I'm going to regret this."

"…Probably."

She sighed.

"…Great."

The figure stepped back slightly.

Creating space.

The air shifted again.

Not heavy.

Not crushing.

But tense.

Focused.

"Come at me."

Elena blinked.

"…Excuse me?"

"Attack."

A pause.

"Without holding back."

Her chest tightened.

"…That's a bad idea."

"Yes."

"…You're serious?"

"Yes."

She stared at them.

"…You really don't like easy things, do you?"

"…No."

She let out a breath.

"…Fine."

Her body tensed.

Her mind focused.

That warmth—

Responding instantly.

Stronger now.

Faster.

"I won't hold back…"

Her voice dropped.

Serious.

For real this time.

"…Good."

She moved.

Fast.

No hesitation.

No doubt.

Straight toward them.

Her hand reached out—

Stronger.

Sharper.

Faster than before.

The air cracked slightly.

From the force.

The figure blocked—

But this time—

They moved back.

Just a step.

Elena's eyes widened.

"…I pushed you…"

Her voice filled with disbelief.

The figure steadied themselves.

"…Again."

No praise.

No pause.

Just—

Again.

Elena didn't hesitate.

She attacked again.

Faster.

More precise.

Her movements cleaner now.

Less fear.

More intent.

Their clash echoed again.

Stronger.

Heavier.

And for the first time—

It didn't feel like training.

It felt real.

Elena stopped suddenly.

Her breath steady.

Her eyes sharp.

"…I'm not the same anymore."

The words came out quietly.

But they were true.

The figure looked at her.

Long.

Careful.

"…No."

A pause.

"…You're not."

Silence fell again.

But this time—

It wasn't calm.

It wasn't soft.

It was something else.

Something new.

Something growing.

Elena looked down at her hands.

Her fingers still faintly trembling.

"…I'm changing."

Not a question.

A statement.

"…Yes."

She swallowed.

"…And I don't know if that's good."

The figure didn't answer.

Because—

There wasn't one.

Elena took a slow breath.

Then looked up again.

Her eyes clearer now.

Stronger.

"…Then I'll decide."

A pause.

"…What I become."

The words hung in the air.

Heavy.

Powerful.

Real.

And for the first time—

The figure didn't correct her.

Didn't warn her.

Didn't stop her.

They just watched.

"…Then don't lose yourself."

Elena nodded slowly.

"…I won't."

But deep down—

She wasn't sure.
