Chapter 11 - [11] Brother, you're so warm inside

Alessa hesitated for a moment, lowering her head and speaking softly, "I want to go out and see too."

Sephirot: "?"

"The revenge is already done."

Alessa continued, "And you helped me. Plus, the aura around you feels very comforting, and your insides are really warm."

"So, I want to go out and see too. Maybe I can even help you, as repayment."

Sephirot stroked his chin. Alessa now seemed much more normal, without the deep bitterness and hatred she had at first.

Was it because the anger had dissipated?

In the original story, she ended up staying in the empty Fog World together with Rose.

Now, due to his intervention, Rose had taken Sharon back to the Real World long ago. If they drove fast enough, they might even be giving statements at the police station right now.

After achieving her revenge, this little girl had no goal left, nowhere to go anymore.

For so many years, she had been alone. If he could take her away...

From the sensation when she merged into his body earlier, it seemed he could also control part of Alessa's Silent Hill.

Then, whenever he encountered enemies he couldn't defeat, wouldn't he just be able to clap his hands and directly perform a Domain Expansion?!

Carrying an Otherworld with him, this cheat was a bit tempting.

Thinking this, Sephirot revealed a warm smile on his face and extended his hand, "Of course you can. But outside, you have to listen to me, no impulsive actions."

Alessa tilted her head, looking at this man whose attitude had suddenly changed. Though she felt something was a bit odd, she didn't sense any malice from him.

So, her body dispersed once more, transforming into black mist and merging into Sephirot's body.

"This feeling..."

Sephirot sensed it. It seemed as long as he wanted, the surrounding environment would instantly be stripped away, dragged into the Otherworld.

The next moment, the ground beneath his feet suddenly collapsed, as if an abyss had opened its enormous maw.

Sephirot was just about to jump away when Alessa's voice echoed in his mind, "This is a passage opened to other Silent Hills. Don't worry."

"Alright, can you change the method next time?"

Sephirot relaxed his body, letting gravity pull him, his form plummeting into endless darkness.

—--

At the edge of Silent Hill Town, on a cliff with an open view.

Two figures overlooked the town below where the dense fog was beginning to dissipate.

One wore a red leather coat, with silver-white long hair casually draped, and some stubble on his face.

He lay without any decorum on a chair he'd hauled from somewhere, sunglasses on his face, biting a corner of pizza in his mouth.

A grotesque-looking large sword was casually thrust into the soil before him, and his leather-booted feet were boldly propped on the sword's guard and pommel.

Beside him stood another man.

Also with silver hair, but styled slicked-back, with a few strands hanging before his forehead. He wore a black trench coat with faint blue thorn patterns, the collar standing upright, his hands naturally lowered, his left thumb lightly resting on the hilt of a katana sheathed in its scabbard.

Even standing quietly like this, he exuded a sharp, cutting aura.

Vergil's cold eyes watched the direction where Sephirot vanished, his voice breaking the silence:

"That boy, his power is immature, yet flows with a pure bloodline."

Vergil turned to look at Dante, who was eating pizza with large bites, his brow furrowing slightly. "Your offspring? That woman like lightning? Or that human with heterochromia?"

"When did this happen?"

"Cough cough cough!"

Hearing this, Dante's eyes widened abruptly, instantly jumping up. The pizza he had just swallowed lodged directly in his throat.

His neck slightly Devil Triggered, clearing the airway, he looked at his twin brother with an exasperated expression:

"Bro! If Lady hears this, she'll blow my Agency into the sky with a rocket launcher!"

Vergil's expression remained indifferent, unaffected by Dante's words. "Who is his?"

"You remember Patty?"

Dante slumped back into his chair, sighing helplessly. "That little girl who loves decorating my Agency into a fairy-tale world."

"Back when you were still holed up in Hell, once I took her out to buy pizza..."

He pointed downhill. "This kid is what she picked up roadside."

Vergil slightly raised an eyebrow, his eyes flashing skepticism. "You'd raise a child? Foolish."

"Hey hey, what kind of talk is that?"

Dante snorted unhappily, his tone carrying a bit of inexplicable sourness. "Of course I wouldn't, but Trish and Lady would."

"Those two women practically treat him like a treasure. Every time I ask him to do some work, they glare at me like mother tigers protecting their cub."

Vergil's fingers lightly rubbed the hilt of Yamato. "What is special about him? Worthy of such attention from Sparda's companions."

"That's exactly what puzzles me."

Dante put away his playful smirk, sat up straight, his expression unusually serious for once. "Nothing too special really. This kid's been following us on jobs since childhood, gutsy."

"Aside from sometimes having jumpy thinking, liking to copy my cool style, he seems just a regular guy."

"But just recently, he suddenly possessed a Demonic Bloodline."

Dante looked at Vergil. "That's weird. After all, you and I only have half a Demonic Bloodline."

"And the Demonic Bloodline awakened within him has extremely high purity, possibly even nearing Pure-blood Devil, though it seems sealed by some more ancient power."

"So I let him handle this job himself, wanted to see if under life-and-death crisis he'd fully awaken, or reveal something."

Saying this, Dante shrugged, slumped back again, his tone lazy. "Now it seems, this kid just muddled through with a bit of cleverness, didn't inherit my style at all."

After hearing this, Vergil's gaze flickered slightly, returning to his usual unperturbed demeanor.

For him, aside from pursuing greater power, nothing could hold his interest.

"A boring observation."

Vergil turned around, hand on Yamato. "Having watched, our unfinished contest should also continue."

Dante regretfully sucked the cheese off his fingers, clapped his hands, pulled up the great sword from the ground and slung it over his shoulder. "Fine fine, such an impatient guy."

"Zzzz..."

Yamato in Vergil's hand drew half an inch from its sheath, instantly cutting a cross-shaped rift emitting a faint blue glow in the void.

He stepped into the spatial rift.

Dante was about to follow, but Vergil suddenly stopped, turning his head to ask:

"Your Agency? No one overseeing it, not afraid those two women will tear it apart fighting over ownership?"

Hearing this, Dante showed a meaningful smile on his face. "Afraid of what? I've already handed it to Morrison to manage."

"And..."

Dante glanced back toward the direction of Silent Hill Town, looking mischievous. "That mountain of piled-up debts at the Agency, plus stacks of utility bills, I've already transferred all onto this kid through legal channels."

"This kid's been freeloading here for so many years, it's time he experiences the adult world."

Finished, humming a little tune, carrying his sword, he followed Vergil disappearing into the spatial rift.

Only a lonely chair and an emptied pizza box remained.

TL NOTES — CROSSOVER GUIDE Some references in this chapter come from source universes that may be unfamiliar to some readers. The notes below are here to help readers unfamiliar with these universes follow along more easily.

CHARACTERS

Vergil — Dante's twin brother and one of the central figures of the Devil May Cry series. Like Dante, he is the son of the legendary demon knight Sparda, but where Dante embraces both his human and demonic sides, Vergil rejects his humanity entirely in his obsessive pursuit of power. Cold, ruthless, and devastatingly skilled, he wields the katana Yamato, a legendary demon-forged blade capable of cutting through dimensional boundaries. He and Dante have a long history of violent confrontations. His presence here, casually observing Sephirot from afar alongside Dante, suggests he has recently returned from one of his extended absences in the demon world.

Trish — The "woman like lightning" Vergil refers to. One of Dante's closest allies and a recurring character in Devil May Cry. She is a demon created in the image of Dante's deceased mother Eva, initially sent to lure him into a trap before switching sides. Her powers are lightning-based, hence Vergil's description. She fights alongside Dante on various missions and is one of the people who helped raise Sephirot at the agency.

Lady — The "human with heterochromia" Vergil refers to. Another of Dante's long-standing allies, a human devil hunter whose real name is Mary. Her heterochromia (one blue eye, one red eye) is one of her most distinctive physical traits. Unlike Dante, she has no demonic blood but compensates with exceptional combat skill and a vast arsenal of firearms and explosives, including a rocket launcher she is very attached to. She is one of the people who helped raise Sephirot at the agency.

ITEMS / WEAPONS

Yamato — Vergil's signature weapon and one of the most powerful Devil Arms in the series. It is a perfect katana forged from the soul of a powerful demon, and its edge is sharp enough to cut through dimensional space itself. In the lore, it was originally a keepsake from their father Sparda. Vergil uses it here to cut open a spatial rift, one of its signature abilities.

Rebellion — The large grotesque sword Dante has thrust into the ground. It is his signature Devil Arm, a greatsword also inherited from Sparda, and a physical manifestation of his own demonic power.

CONCEPTS

Domain Expansion — A reference to the manga/anime series Jujutsu Kaisen. In that series, a Domain Expansion is the ultimate technique of a sorcerer or cursed spirit: the user creates an enclosed bounded field from their own innate domain, manifesting it as an inescapable reality-warping space that overwhelms anyone trapped inside. Sephirot uses the term here as a pop-culture shorthand for what it would mean to carry Alessa's Otherworld within him, an instant, inescapable dimensional trap he could deploy at will.
