Chapter 7 - The Fight For Survival

The creatures roared, their voices echoing like distant thunder. Drool dripped from their mouths as their suppressed hunger awakened. They advanced, closing in on the terrified friends, their noses sniffing out the unmistakable scent of fear and despair. The friends backed away, hands trembling. Nite clutched Barka's clothes, mucus dripping from his nose. Doushi and Xiao Xi stood frozen, fear paralyzing them, their palms clammy with sweat.

"Barka, what do we do?" Doushi whispered, his voice quaking.

"Stay together!" Barka urged, trying to maintain her composure.

The creatures continued forward, claws retracting with a glint that promised danger. One of them approached Barka, its hot breath sending a shiver down her spine. It sniffed her neck, and her friends watched in horror, trying to comprehend why she didn't run or scream.

The cave fell silent as the creature grew bolder. With a sudden swipe, it tore through her skin. Barka flinched as blood gushed out, the creature inhaling her scent with a grotesque pleasure. It extended its tongue, licking the blood off her wound, as if savoring every drop.

"Barka!" Nite shouted, panic rising in his voice.

Barka stood still, trembling. She could only watch as the creature began to drain her strength. The other creature, noticing her submissiveness, turned its attention to Nite, who looked ready to collapse.

"Get away from him!" Xiao Xi screamed, her voice laced with desperation.

The creature reached for Nite's neck, mimicking what it had done to Barka. As soon as its claws grazed his skin, Nite flinched and screamed, startling the creatures. One backed away, confusion evident in its eyes. The other, however, let out a fearsome roar that reignited Barka's resolve.

"Run!" she shouted, adrenaline coursing through her veins.

Suddenly, the creature lunged at Nite, claws raking his skin as he cried out for help. The other creature charged at Doushi and Xiao Xi, who shrieked in terror.

"Barka, help!" Doushi yelled, his voice cracking.

In a flash, Barka lunged at the attacking creature, her fangs sinking into its flesh. Her eyes turned a fierce red, and her expression was a mix of fury and determination. She tore into the creature with a ferocity that surprised even herself.

"Get out of here!" she commanded her friends.

As the creature abandoned Nite to attack her, they both collapsed onto the ground. Barka scrambled to her feet, grabbing her friends.

"Go deeper into the cave!" she urged, shoving them forward as they ran for their lives.

The cave was darker and more mysterious than it had seemed from the outside. They raced through the narrow passages, the shimmering light at the entrance fading behind them. Soon, they were engulfed in darkness, unable to see anything.

Finally, they stopped, panting heavily, legs weak with exhaustion. Nite groaned, his wounds stinging like fire. Tears streamed down his cheeks, trembling from pain and fear.

"Shh…" Barka whispered, carefully covering his mouth. "We need to be quiet. They're close."

She ran her fingers through his hair, trying to soothe him. "Hold on, Nite. We'll get through this."

The roars of the creatures broke the silence. Although blinded by the darkness, they navigated their way toward the friends. Their red eyes glowed ominously, noses sniffing out their prey.

"Stay silent," Barka hissed, her heart racing.

The friends huddled together, terror gripping them. The creatures drew closer, sniffing the air, honing in on the scent of blood. Nite trembled, every instinct screaming at him to run, to scream, to escape. But he had already tried that, and it had led to chaos. Now, he could only remain still, suppressing his fear.

Minutes felt like hours as the creatures came closer, their heavy breaths ghosting over Nite's face. Suddenly, they licked his bruised hand, and he lost it.

"AHH!" he screamed, shattering the fragile silence.

The noise sent the creatures into a frenzy, their predatory instincts kicking in. They growled, startled by the outburst, and the friends scattered in different directions, panic overwhelming them.

"Barka!" Doushi shouted, but the darkness swallowed his voice.

They were lost, disoriented in the vast cave, fear coursing through their veins. Barka, who had wanted to take charge, was now consumed by terror. Her screams pierced the air, louder than the others, as her senses dulled in the face of true danger.

"Stay calm!" she shouted into the void, though her heart raced. "We can't let them divide us!"

But it was too late. They were scattered, each friend swallowed by the dark, with only their fear to guide them. The creatures were relentless, closing in, their growls echoing ominously.

"Barka!" Nite called, his voice trembling.

"Over here!" she yelled back, desperately trying to find him.

But the cave twisted and turned, leaving them disoriented. They could hear the creatures' growls growing louder, their footsteps echoing ominously through the darkness.

"Will fate show us mercy?" Barka wondered, her heart pounding.

The friends had to regroup, to find each other before it was too late. But would they have the strength to face the creatures together, or would fear consume them one by one?
