Chapter 10 - [Chapter 10:The Edge Of Survival]

As Tony circled the serpent, his mind replayed the heated exchange with Alfred. In the heat of battle, he had confronted the older man. "Dammit! You old bastard, do something! I saw you drop that thing earlier! Why didn't you use it?!" Tony's voice was laced with fury and desperation as he grabbed Alfred by the collar.

"Why did you lie, saying you came here empty-handed?!" Tony demanded, his eyes burning with anger.

"I was saving it for an emergency! We don't know what else is in here!" Alfred shouted back, his voice tinged with panic.

"Well, if you don't use it now, we're all dead! Dead!!, do you hear me?!" Tony's voice was cracking and filled with desperation.

Alfred then nervously revealed a device from his coat – a sleek, cylindrical object that gleamed with a metallic sheen, small lights blinking along its side, indicating its readiness to unleash a powerful shockwave.

Tony, acting on instinct, wrestled the grenade from Alfred's grasp. "You son of a bitch! You're telling me you had a shockwave flashbang on you this whole time?!" he exclaimed, disbelief mixing with a surge of hope. he snatched the device and bolted away, leaving Alfred staggering backwards and falling to the ground. stunned by the sudden turn of events.

Now, Tony circled the massive serpent, looking for the perfect spot to deploy the flashbang. "Come on... I just need a clear shot at that burnt-off mouth. It's a big hole, but it needs to be still for a moment," he thought, his eyes scanning for an opportunity.

Meanwhile, Xander and Mikael were fighting for their lives as they led the serpent towards an area with spiky rock formations. Xander ducked and weaved, narrowly avoiding the creature's relentless attacks.

"Good thing this thing is disoriented. It's having trouble locating me when I'm running, and Its movements are more linear now, easier to dodge," he thought, gasping for breath, feeling his lungs burn from the exertion.

Running alongside Xander, Mikael hurled rocks at the serpent's nose, aiding in herding the beast towards the spiky rocks. Scales and flesh ripped and scattered as the snake colided with the terrain, further damaging its vunerable state.

"Z! Watch out!" Mi'kael shouted, pushing Xander aside as the serpent lunged at them from an unexpected angle. Mikael's attempt to dodge was only partially successful. One of the serpent's smaller fangs, dagger-like in size, impaled his shoulder. He screamed in agony, quickly pulling himself off the fang, blood spurting from the wound.

"Mikaaa!" Xander cried out, lunging towards the serpent with renewed ferocity. He slashed at its maw with Layla's sword, each strike fueled by concern for his friend. Mikael, in the meantime, rolled away, clutching his bleeding shoulder, out of immediate danger, his face contorted in pain.

Xander, channeling every ounce of his strength, delivered a decisive slash to the serpent, cleaving off a substantial portion of its burnt and tender flesh. The serpent, in a frenzy of pain, let out an ear-piercing shriek, thrashing its head and neck against the cavern walls in wild retaliation creating a cacophony of sound that echoed loudly.

Xander tried to evade the serpent's erratic movements, but its sheer size and unpredictability were overwhelming. He was caught off guard, The massive body of the creature struck him with full force, knocking the breath from his lungs and sending him flying several feet back. "Dammit," he cursed under his breath, struggling to regather his bearings, a wave of pain radiating through his body.

Feels like I've been hit by a truck, Xander thought grimly, trying to push himself to his feet. Despite the adrenaline coursing through his veins, Xander felt his body reaching its limit.

The burn on his arm, a vicious reminder of the salamander's acid, throbbed painfully, inching closer to the bone. Blood from the gash in his left arm streamed down, soaking his hands as they tightly gripped Layla's katana. Despite the pain, he knew he couldn't afford to stop now.

Meanwhile, the serpent continued its rampant onslaught, its movements becoming increasingly uncontrollable. Mikael and Tony narrowly avoided its violent strikes, each maneuver a desperate bid for survival.

Mi'kael, after a narrowly executed dodge, sought refuge behind a curved rock formation. He leaned heavily against it. The blood loss and exhaustion were taking their toll, blurring his vision and sapping his strength. He pressed his hand against his shoulder wound, trying to stem the flow of blood. "Just need a moment…" he thought, gasping for air.

Xander, witnessing Mi'kael's struggle, knew they couldn't keep this up much longer. He struggled to regain his footing, his body protesting with every movement.

The pain was almost overwhelming, but the determination to survive, to fight until the very end, drove him forward. "Can't let it end here, not like this, not after all we've been through", he thought, steeling himself for the next round with the serpent.

However, the serpent's unpredictable behavior made it a lethal force, one wrong move could mean the end for any of them.

In the midst of the serpent's unrestrained frenzy, Tony found himself increasingly cornered by the serpent's relentless thrashing. Each movement of the massive creature was erratic and unpredictable, forcing Tony into a tight spot.

"What the fuck is wrong with thing thing?! it's moving too much and too randomly. " Tony thought frantically, ducking another powerful swipe of the serpent's tail. "I need to get this flashbang inside it somehow, but how?" Part of the snake's jaw was completely disintegrated from the acid.

Tony's plan was clear yet perilous: to throw the shockwave flashbang directly into the serpent's gaping maw. As he dodged another attack, he found himself backed into a corner, sharp rocks jutting out menacingly behind him. The serpent, its movements impaired but still dangerous, bore down on him.

With a determined shout of "Fuck it!" Tony reached for the pin of the flashbang, but fate had other plans, just as he was about to act, The serpent's tail, in a swift, sweeping motion, caught Tony's legs, sending him sprawling across the cavern floor. The shockwave flashbang slipped from his grasp, rolling away in the opposite direction.

Mi'kael and Xander, both struggling to catch their breath, watched in horror as Tony was swept across the cavern floor like a ragdoll, finally coming to a halt at the edge of the shallow water, motionless and unconscious.

The flashbang, now a beacon of their fading hope, rolled to a stop about three meters away from Mi'kael. Its sleek metallic surface gleamed dimly in the cavern's light, an untapped potential lying just out of reach.

Mi'kael, still gripping his bleeding shoulder, eyed the flashbang warily. This could be our last chance, he realized, the gravity of the situation weighing heavily on him.

The serpent, having expelled Tony with a vicious strike, momentarily wobbled, trying to maintain its balance. Its head swayed, struggling to stay upright, as it gradually regained some semblance of awareness. The once frenetic creature now seemed to be slowly coming back to its senses, its eyes narrowing as it focused on its surroundings.

Amidst this brief lull, Mi'kael crouched low and moved stealthily towards the flashbang, with Xander closely following. Reaching the device first, Mi'kael's hand wrapped securely around it. Xander, his hand soaked in blood, reached out and placed it on his friend's shoulder. "What's the plan, Mika?" he asked, his voice strained with exertion.

Before Mi'kael could respond, a loud hiss echoed through the cavern, drawing their attention back to the serpent. The beast, though slower than before, was deliberately slithering toward them, its movements calculated and menacing, as if it recognized them as the threats they were. The beast's eyes narrowed, focusing on them with a renewed sense of purpose.

"I'll hold it off. Find the right moment to use that grenade," Xander said determinedly, locking eyes with Mi'kael. "I'll stall it as long as i can," he added, a resolute expression etched on his weary face.

a sudden, thunderous cry echoed through the cavern, reminiscent of a barbarian's war cry. "Aaaargh!! Take this, you scaly fiend!" The serpent, caught off guard, reacted instinctively, whipping its body around to dislodge an unexpected assailant.

To their astonishment, Jasper emerged, clinging to one of the serpent's half-ripped scales. With one hand gripping tightly, he wielded his spiked bat with the other, relentlessly battering the creature. "You didn't forget about me, did you?! Stupid reptile!" Jasper roared, each word punctuated with a ferocious swing of his bat.

Xander and Mi'kael watched in awe as Jasper, with sheer brute force and determination, continued his assault on the serpent. It was a desperate, almost reckless attempt, but it provided them the distraction they desperately needed.

Mi'kael, his voice strained with pain and urgency, looked into Xander's eyes. "You have to do it, Z," he implored. "My dominant arm is pretty much out of commission because of this wound, and my vision is blurry. I don't have the strength to move much either." Handing over the flashbang to Xander, he continued, "This won't be easy, but I know you can pull this off. You need to hurry though; Jasper won't be able to hold that thing off for long. From what i saw, Tony was aiming to throw this inside the snake's mouth. Find the right moment and go for it. Go now, Xander.

Xander hesitated for a moment, taking in Mi'kael's injured state, then nodded resolutely, his nerves steeling for what was to come. "Alright," he replied, his voice steady despite the churning fear inside. He took a deep breath, gripping the flashbang in his right hand and Layla's sword in his left, then started running towards the serpent, gradually picking up speed.

Mi'kael watched him go, pressing down on his wound to stem the flow of blood, his face etched with hope amidst the pain.

On the serpent's back, Jasper continued his valiant assault. But the beast, growing tired of this persistent nuisance, swiftly turned around, its partially burned mouth attempting to snap at Jasper. Unable to fully open its jaw due to the extensive damage, it instead head-butted Jasper, sending him flying off its back.

Xander, now closing in on the serpent, watched Jasper's body being flung aside. He quickened his pace, running towards the disoriented snake. The serpent, momentarily stunned from the impact of its own attack, wobbled its head back towards Xander, its eyes unfocused.

In these critical moments, Xander's focus was razor-sharp. Every step brought him closer to the serpent, each stride filled with purpose.

The serpent, disoriented and weakened, struggled to maintain its focus as Xander drew nearer. Its massive body swayed unsteadily, the effects of the battle taking their toll.

As Xander charged towards the serpent, he placed the shockwave flashbang between his teeth, freeing both his hands to grip Layla's katana, and channeling every ounce of strength he had left into a powerful leap towards the serpent's face. With a swift and forceful thrust, he drove the katana deep into the serpent's tender, burnt nose.

The serpent, caught off guard by the sudden and intense pain, jerked its head upward in a reflexive response. Xander, clinging to the katana, found his grip slipping as the blood from his wounds made the hilt slick and treacherous. The force of the serpent's movement was too much; his hands slipped from the sword, sending him airborne, about seven feet up.

"Fuck!" Xander thought frantically, his heart pounding in his chest. As he plummeted back towards the serpent, its jaws opened in a strained, painful attempt to swallow him whole. Its movements were sluggish, its jaw only managing to open a bit less than halfway, hindered by its injuries.

Xander, acting on pure instinct, reached out with his left arm, catching himself on the inside of the snake's jaw to avoid plummeting to the ground. The serpent, seizing the opportunity, snapped its jaws shut with a brutal force.

Agony exploded through his arm, a scream tearing from his throat as one of the larger fangs pierced right through his elbow, shattering bone and sending waves of excruciating pain through his body. He fought to maintain his composure, the shockwave flashbang still secured between his teeth.

"Shit, Shit, Shit!!" was all he could think, fighting the urge to scream louder or bite down on the flashbang in his mouth. The serpent began to thrash, attempting to rip his arm off. But its weakened state only prolonged the torture, failing to tear the arm free, causing unbearable pain instead.

Tears streamed from Xander's bloodshot eyes as he endured the torment, his gaze fixated on the charred visage of the serpent. "You bastard! I'll kill you, even if it's the last thing I do…," he vowed silently, his resolve hardening amidst the intense pain.

With his free hand, he managed to pull the pin on the flashbang, his fingers trembling. The device beeped to life, starting a countdown from five. Xander clutched it tightly and timed his throw perfectly with the serpent's violent movements.

As the snake swung him towards the gaping wound on its face, he hurled the shockwave flashbang into the tunnel-like hole. The device beeped ominously, echoing in the vast chamber, as it disappeared down the serpent's throat.

"I guess this is it for me, heh…. at least i'll take this damn snake out with me." Xander thought grimly, stuck in the serpent's maw, resigned to his fate. But as he braced for the inevitable, his eyes caught sight of Layla's katana still embedded in the serpent's nose.

A flicker of hope sparked within him. Driven by a sheer survival instinct, he reached out and grabbed the sword's hilt, using the serpent's violent movements to wrench it free.

The device beeped again, the countdown reaching 3. With a guttural yell, Xander attempted to sever his trapped arm, the blade slicing through flesh but failing to cut through bone. The pain was unbearable, threatening to overwhelm his senses.

Refusing to surrender, Xander adjusted his grip, finding a better angle. The device beeped once more, now at two. He gritted his teeth, steeling himself against the excruciating suffering, and struck again. The blade sliced deeper, parting bone and sinew, but his arm remained stubbornly attached.

Misery clouded his vision, almost dragging him into unconsciousness….

With the timer at one, He screamed, a primal sound of determination and agony, bringing the katana down with all his might. This time, the blade finally cleaved through the remaining flesh and bone, freeing him from the serpent's grip.

The world seemed to slow down for a moment as Xander was flung away. Then, the device beeped for one last time. An intense flash of blinding white light erupted from the serpent's body, followed by a deafening shockwave.

The force of the explosion ripped through the serpent's massive form, shredding its upper half in a gruesome spectacle. Guts, blood, and scales showered the cavern, painting a grotesque scene.

Xander, mid-air and discombobulated, was enveloped in a shower of blood and viscera as he landed, rolling painfully on the ground.

As he lay there, his vision blurred and fading, Xander witnessed the serpent's decapitated head, propelled by the blast, soar overhead, impaling itself on a cluster of sharp rocks.

Right before darkness enveloped him, he saw the serpent's lifeless eyes, staring blankly into the void.

The cavern soon fell silent, echoes of the explosion fading into a haunting stillness…
