The next morning, Emily woke up alone.
Alexander was already gone.
On the bedside table, there was a note.
Breakfast at 8:00. Don't be late. – A
Emily looked at the clock.
7:40.
She jumped out of bed immediately.
After quickly changing her clothes, she followed the maid downstairs to the dining room.
The dining room was enormous.
The table was so long that it could seat at least twenty people.
Alexander was sitting at the head of the table, reading a newspaper, looking like this was just another normal morning.
He glanced up when Emily walked in.
"You are two minutes early," he said.
"Good. I don't like people who are late."
Emily sat down across from him. She suddenly felt very nervous for no reason.
A maid poured coffee for her.
Another placed breakfast in front of her—eggs, toast, fruit, juice. Everything looked perfect. Too perfect.
"Today, you will come with me," Alexander said while folding his newspaper.
"Where?" Emily asked.
"To the hotel."
Emily blinked. "The hotel?"
"Our hotel," Alexander corrected calmly.
"You should start learning about the Moretti Group. After all, you are now Mrs. Moretti."
Mrs. Moretti.
Hearing that name made Emily feel strange.
"I thought this marriage was just for your family," she said.
"It is," Alexander replied.
"But since you are already here, you might as well be useful."
Emily frowned slightly. "Useful?"
Alexander looked at her and said in a calm, emotionless voice,
"I don't like useless people around me."
Emily felt a little angry, but she didn't show it.
Instead, she looked at him and said,
"Then I won't be useless."
For the first time, Alexander smiled a little.
"Good," he said.
"I hope so, Mrs. Moretti."
