Chapter 69 - CHAPTER 69:THE AUCTION-CHAOS TABLET

The auction had reached its climax.

Lot after lot came and went—Kafu won some, lost others, always maintaining the careful balance of a wealthy noble with diverse interests. His new "allies" in House Varnax watched with approval as he bid strategically, never challenging them on their key targets, always supporting their bids when it mattered.

But everyone knew what was coming.

Lot 99. The Chaos Writer Tablet.

The Void Speaker's voice took on a reverent tone as the final lot was brought to the stage.

"Ladies and gentlemen, beings of power and wealth, I present to you the crown jewel of tonight's auction. The Chaos Writer Tablet."

The tablet floated above the auction stage—a simple slab of obsidian, carved with symbols so ancient they predated language itself. It pulsed with dark energy, with potential, with the power to rewrite reality.

Kafu's heart raced. This was it. The key to his freedom. The tool that would let him vanish from Xynthos's awareness forever.

But he wasn't the only one who wanted it.

Box 7 was stirring. House Varnax's patriarch leaned forward, his eyes fixed on the tablet with naked greed. His children gathered around him, their excitement palpable.

Valerius Jr. caught Kafu's eye and mouthed two words: "We need this."

Kafu nodded slightly. Of course they did. They had no idea what he had planned.

---

THE BIDDING BEGINS

"Let the bidding commence," the Void Speaker announced. "Do I have an opening bid?"

Box 4—the crystal being—raised its hand. "1 quadrillion."

Box 9 countered immediately. "1.2 quadrillion."

Box 7 entered with authority. "1.5 quadrillion."

Kafu waited, watching the patterns, learning the players. Box 4 was dropping out—they had spent heavily on earlier lots. Box 9 was hesitating, their resources clearly strained.

Only Box 7 remained as a serious competitor.

Valerius Jr. looked at Kafu with desperate eyes.

Kafu raised his hand. "2 quadrillion."

The crowd gasped. A jump of 500 trillion was unprecedented.

Box 7's patriarch glared at Kafu, but his son leaned close, whispering urgently. Kafu couldn't hear the words, but he could guess: "He's our ally. He'll step aside. He promised."

The patriarch's glare softened slightly. He raised his hand. "2.2 quadrillion."

Kafu raised again. "2.5 quadrillion."

Box 7 hesitated. The patriarch looked at his children, at his advisors, at the tablet that could change everything. Then he shook his head.

"We're out," he announced. "Box 13 wins."

The crowd erupted in murmurs. The House of Golden dawn had just spent 2.5 quadrillion UC—more than most civilizations earned in a millennium.

The Void Speaker's voice rang out. "Going once... going twice... SOLD to Box 13 for 2.5 quadrillion UC!"

Kafu allowed himself a small smile. The tablet was his.

But the game wasn't over yet.

---

THE FAKE

As the tablet was being prepared for delivery, Kafu made his move.

"Morana," he whispered. "Now."

His shadow wife had been preparing for this moment since the auction began. In her hands was a perfect duplicate of the Chaos Writer Tablet—identical in every way, down to the last atom, but with one crucial difference.

Morana slipped the fake into the delivery case, replacing the real tablet in the instant before the servant arrived. The real tablet vanished into Kafu's storage.

"Delivery for Lord Aurelius," the servant announced.

Kafu accepted the case with practiced grace. "Thank you."

THE GIFT

As soon as the servant left, Kafu turned to Valerius Jr., who had slipped away from his family to visit Box 13.

"My friend," Kafu said warmly. "I have something for you."

The heir's eyes widened as Kafu opened the case, revealing the "Chaos Writer Tablet" within.

"This... this is for me?"

"A gift. A token of our friendship." Kafu's smile was warm, genuine, utterly convincing. "You wanted to prove yourself to your father. What better way than to present him with the most coveted artifact in existence?"

Valerius Jr. stared at the tablet, then at Kafu, then back at the tablet.

"I... I don't know what to say."

"Say you'll accept it. Say we're partners in this venture. Say that House Varnax and House of Golden dawn are forever bound."

The heir's eyes glistened. "We are. We will be. Thank you, Lord Aurelius. Thank you."

He took the case and hurried back to his family, already imagining his father's praise, his siblings' envy, his place in history secured.

Kafu watched him go, his expression unreadable.

Morana appeared at his side. "The seal?"

"Activated the moment he touched it. He's ours now. He just doesn't know it yet."

"And when his family uses the tablet?"

"They'll think it's working. They'll write their plans, their schemes, their secrets. And every word will be transmitted directly to us." Kafu smiled. "Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer, and keep your so-called allies where you can watch their every move."

Kyrella joined them, her Starlight form flickering with approval. "You just gave away 2.5 quadrillion UC worth of influence."

"An investment." Kafu's eyes were cold. "In a few days, I'll know everything about House Varnax. Their plans for Zambezi-7. Their weaknesses. Their secrets. And when I'm ready..."

"You'll destroy them."

"No." Kafu touched the rune on his heart. "I'll free my people. The destruction will take care of itself."

THE AFTERMATH

The auction ended with a flourish. Winners celebrated. Losers mourned. Deals were struck and broken in the shadows.

Kafu and his wives returned to their villa, the real Chaos Writer Tablet safe in Kafu's storage. They gathered in the master suite, surrounding him as he prepared to activate it.

"Are you sure about this?" Kyrella asked. "Once you write yourself out of existence..."

"I won't be out of existence. I'll be out of memory. Xynthos won't be able to find me because he won't know I exist. The universe won't remember Kafu of the Ashari." He looked at his wives. "But you will. The army will. Makena will. That's enough."

He placed his hand on the tablet.

[CHAOS WRITER TABLET — ACTIVATED]

Words appeared on its surface—not written by him, but by the tablet itself, responding to his intent.

"I, Kafu of the Ashari, known also as Kaelen the Wanderer and Lord Aurelius of the Golden Dawn, do hereby request that my existence and knowledge be erased from all records, memories, and awareness except for those bound to me by soul bonds."

The tablet pulsed once, twice, three times.

Then it went dark.

Kafu felt something shift—a weight he hadn't known he was carrying lifting from his shoulders. Xynthos's awareness, the universe's memory, the collective consciousness of existence... all of it simply... forgot.

He looked at his wives. They were still there, still looking at him with love, still remembering.

"It worked," he breathed. "It actually worked."

Kyrella embraced him. "You're still here. With us. That's all that matters."

"For now." He pulled back, his eyes—still ordinary brown, still carefully suppressed—holding a new determination. "Now let's go visit Zambezi-7."
