"Each world has between three and five thousand soldiers. Most are Genesis Lords, with a core of Void Knights as officers. Combined, the Mid Sector has approximately sixty thousand defenders."
Kafu's jaw tightened. Sixty thousand. More than his purchased legions alone. But with the shadow soldiers, the beasts, and the new recruits, the numbers were closer.
Still, a direct assault on fifteen fortified worlds would cost dearly.
"We divide them," Kafu said. "We conquer them piece by piece. And we show them what true power looks like."

Kafu raised his hand, and the war room fell silent.
"The enemy believes they face a liberator with a small army, powerful ancestors, and luck. They do not know that I command one hundred thousand shadow soldiers who cannot die. They do not know that I command thirty-six thousand purchased warriors who have been trained to kill. They do not know that every freed slave from the Outer Rim now fights with us."
He turned to the map.
"We will not attack fifteen worlds at once. We will attack them in waves. The shadow soldiers will infiltrate five worlds simultaneously, disabling communications and eliminating sentries. When the Collective sends reinforcements from neighboring worlds, our purchased legions will intercept them in transit."
Varus nodded slowly. "Divide their forces. Make them choose between defending their own worlds and reinforcing their allies."
"Exactly." Kafu smiled. "And while they are divided, our ancestors will strike the Eternity Master fortresses directly."

THE STRIKE — WAVE ONE
Day One: Five Worlds.
The shadow soldiers moved before dawn. Ninety-nine thousand beings of death and darkness, phasing through walls, slipping past sentries, eliminating guards without a sound. On five worlds simultaneously, communications died. Sentries fell. Commanders found themselves trapped in their own fortresses.
Kafu's purchased legions struck at dawn. Ten thousand Genesis Lords descended on each world, their power amplified by the treasures Kafu had bought for them. The Collective's garrisons, expecting a raid, found themselves facing an army.
On Veridia Prime, the commander—a Void Knight who had ruled for five thousand years—sent out a distress call. Reinforcements from three nearby worlds responded.
They never arrived.
Kafu's Eternity Masters intercepted them in the void between worlds. One hundred beings who could destroy stars with a thought met the Collective's reinforcements and turned them to ash.
By nightfall, five worlds were free.

The assault on the Varnax worlds took seven days. Kafu's forces moved through them like a plague, the shadow soldiers infiltrating, the purchased legions striking, the ancestors crushing resistance.
Day One: Varnax Prime. Valeriana faced Kafu alone. She fought well, but she was no match for the Scorpion King. When she fell, Kafu knelt beside her.

"He was always like that." Valerius opened his eyes. "What will you do with me?"
Kafu was silent for a long moment.
"Your worlds are free. Your armies are scattered. Your wealth is forfeit." He leaned forward. "You will live, Valerius. You will watch what we build. You will see the civilization that rises from the ashes of your empire. And every day, you will remember that you could have been part of it. You chose betrayal instead."
He rose.
"The reversed contract will ensure your loyalty. You will serve the Scorpion King until the end of your days. And when you die, your name will be remembered—not as a conqueror, but as a warning."
Valerius bowed his head. "I understand."
Kafu turned to leave, then paused.
