Chapter 34 — Freedom
The road curved away from the route that led to the international airport.
Dust rose behind the vehicles as Care quietly turned the steering wheel toward a smaller highway leading to the domestic terminal. No guards followed. No military checkpoints waited ahead.
For the first time since the escape had begun… the tension slowly began to loosen.
Inside the van, Zein leaned her head against the window. The mountains of Ladakh passed by slowly, sunlight touching the rocky peaks. Her fingers rested lightly on the glass as if she was trying to confirm that everything was real.
"No guards…" she whispered.
Mia looked around the vehicle nervously.
"No surveillance drones either…"
Ace sat across from them, his arms folded, staring at the road ahead with his usual calm expression. But even he couldn't hide the faint disbelief in his voice.
"Feels unreal."
Care glanced at him through the rear-view mirror and smiled softly.
"Welcome to your new life."
For a moment… nobody spoke.
The silence inside the vehicle was not fear anymore.
It was relief.
Cole leaned back in his seat, finally allowing his shoulders to relax. Alex stretched his arms above his head and laughed quietly.
"Man… we actually did it."
Lyra nudged him.
"Don't celebrate too early. We still have a flight to catch."
Ash was already checking her tablet, scanning signals and security feeds.
"No alerts from the university system yet," she muttered. "Either they haven't realized… or they're still processing the chaos."
Cole smirked.
"By the time they figure it out, we'll already be on a beach in Goa."
The vehicle entered the outskirts of Leh city. Traffic increased slightly, but everything looked completely normal.
Ordinary people walking.
Tourists taking photos.
Shops opening.
Life.
Zein kept staring outside the window as if she had just discovered a different world.
"No guards watching every step…"
Matt leaned forward.
"No curfew sirens…"
Allison whispered quietly.
"No Bloody Nights."
Her voice trembled slightly.
Care noticed.
She didn't say anything dramatic. She simply placed her hand on Allison's shoulder.
"You're safe now."
The vehicles finally entered the parking area of the domestic airport.
The moment the doors opened, the cold mountain air rushed inside.
Everyone stepped out.
The HU students looked around cautiously at first.
No guards.
No tracking bracelets.
No surveillance.
Just an airport.
People with luggage.
Families.
Travelers.
Freedom.
Zein slowly turned toward Care.
For a second she didn't know what to say.
Then she suddenly stepped forward and hugged her tightly.
"Thank you…"
Care blinked slightly in surprise but gently hugged her back.
"You saved us."
Ace stepped forward next, his expression serious as always.
"I've seen leaders before," he said calmly.
"But never one who risks everything for people she barely knows."
Care crossed her arms casually.
"I don't leave people behind."
Matt grinned.
"You literally broke the system of one of the most dangerous universities in the world."
Alex laughed.
"Yeah, Care doesn't do things halfway."
Mia wiped her eyes.
"We thought we would die there."
Lyra smiled warmly at them.
"Not on Care's watch."
Cole leaned against the car with a proud look.
"She's terrifying when she makes a plan."
Ash added without looking up from her device,
"Statistically speaking, her escape strategy had a seventy-three percent success rate."
Alex looked at her.
"Only seventy-three?"
Ash shrugged.
"Now it's one hundred."
Everyone laughed.
For the first time since their nightmare began… the HU students were laughing freely.
Inside the terminal, the group walked together toward the check-in counters for the Goa flight.
Phones began vibrating.
Ash checked the encrypted communication network.
Two secure channels were open.
Thailand.
Philippines.
She handed the phone to Care.
"Time for the final confirmation."
Care connected the call.
The screen flickered.
Then familiar faces appeared.
From Thailand:
Thyme, Gorya, Ren, MJ, and Kavin.
And from the Philippines side:
Percy, Endrix, Freya, Cin, Rakhi, Keifer, JJ, and Aries.
Everyone looked exhausted… but smiling.
Percy immediately leaned toward the camera dramatically.
"Ladies and gentlemen… the mastermind appears."
Care rolled her eyes.
"Relax, Percy."
Thyme crossed his arms.
"So?"
Care looked around at the HU students standing beside her.
Then she said calmly,
"Plan successful."
The reaction on the screen was instant.
MJ literally jumped up from his seat.
"LET'S GOOO!"
Kavin clapped loudly.
Ren just smiled quietly.
Gorya sighed with relief.
"Thank god…"
On the Philippines side, Percy leaned back dramatically.
"I knew it would work."
Endrix laughed.
"Dude, you were panicking the whole time."
Freya smiled proudly.
Cin crossed his arms with a small grin.
Rakhi shook her head.
"We should've bet money on this."
Keifer looked directly at Care through the screen.
"You pulled it off."
JJ stood beside him, smiling softly.
"You saved them."
Aries nodded calmly.
"Respect."
Ace stepped into view of the camera.
"We're safe."
Zein waved slightly.
"Free."
For a few seconds nobody spoke.
The moment felt heavy.
Important.
Care finally said quietly,
"This was never just our plan."
Thyme nodded slowly.
"Three countries."
Percy grinned.
"One operation."
Ren added calmly,
"One war avoided."
Cole leaned closer to the screen.
"Next time we meet… it won't be through a phone."
MJ smirked.
"Beach party in Goa?"
Alex immediately pointed at him.
"YOU READ MY MIND."
Lyra laughed.
"You're all insane."
Endrix crossed his arms.
"Just promise one thing."
Care raised an eyebrow.
"What?"
Endrix smiled slightly.
"If another impossible mission appears… call us."
Care smirked.
"Obviously."
Percy raised an imaginary glass.
"To the most chaotic alliance in history."
Everyone raised their hands toward the screen.
"Cheers!"
The call slowly ended.
The screen went dark.
For a moment the airport noise filled the silence again.
Passengers walking.
Announcements echoing.
Life continuing as normal.
But for this group…
Everything had changed.
The boarding announcement for Goa echoed through the terminal.
Ash looked up.
"That's us."
The group started walking toward the boarding gate.
Zein looked back one last time at the mountains visible through the airport glass.
Then she smiled.
Ace walked beside Care.
"You know something?"
Care glanced at him.
"What?"
Ace said quietly,
"Today you didn't just save eight students."
He gestured toward the sky where their plane waited.
"You destroyed a prison."
Care looked ahead calmly.
"Good."
Cole smirked.
"And we're celebrating that with seafood and beaches."
Alex pumped his fist.
"GOA!"
Lyra shook her head laughing.
The group walked onto the plane together.
Some collapsed into their seats from exhaustion.
Some checked messages from allies.
Some simply stared out the windows quietly.
As the aircraft slowly began moving down the runway…
Zein whispered softly while looking outside.
"We're really leaving."
Care leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes peacefully.
"Yes."
The plane lifted into the sky.
And far below…
The shadows of their past disappeared into the mountains.
