"Boss, uh, I'll be heading out then?"
Dr. Whitecoat looked at Jace Lennox questioningly. When Jace Lennox didn't respond, he cautiously backed out. But just as he got outside the door, he stopped abruptly, poked his head back into the room, and said, "Um, Boss, I'll be just downstairs. You can call me if you need anything."
'Under these circumstances, I can't just leave. If something really happens to her, and I'm gone, this erratic and completely irrational boss of mine might pin all the blame on me.'
"Mm." This time, Jace Lennox finally managed to give Dr. Whitecoat a one-word reply.
Dr. Whitecoat went downstairs, leaving only Jace Lennox and Phoebe Faulkner in the room.
Once it was completely quiet, all of Jace Lennox's attention was focused on Phoebe Faulkner.
As Phoebe Faulkner's fever refused to break, Jace Lennox stayed up all night taking care of her, constantly monitoring her condition. He watched over her just like that, all the way until dawn.
