River Walsh had her scarf draped over his arm as he walked beside her out of the restaurant.
He immediately spotted a Porsche Cayenne with its hazard lights flashing, parked not far away. He narrowed his eyes and was about to walk her over, but Evelyn Grant, quick as a flash, took her scarf back and tilted her head up to smile at him.
"I'll head over now. Drive safe on your way back. Goodbye, Mr. River."
River Walsh paused, his gaze fixed on Evelyn Grant's face. He gave a slight nod. "Okay. Remember to text me when you get home."
Evelyn Grant nodded with a smile, an obvious relief flowing in her eyes—a look she never showed when she was alone with him.
He tucked one hand in his pocket, watching the girl's retreating figure. Under the dim lights, a hint of loneliness touched his eyes.
