Chapter 29 - Chapter 29

A quiet, hollow laugh echoed through the hall.

It came from her fiancé.

Not loud.

Not dramatic.

Just… empty.

"So… this is how it ends?" he said slowly.

All eyes turned toward him.

He stood there, staring at her—not with anger, but with something far more painful.

Disappointment.

Betrayal.

And a kind of sadness that didn't need words.

"You stood here," he continued, his voice steady despite everything, "in front of everyone… ready to marry me."

His gaze shifted briefly toward the guests, then back to her.

"And all this time… your heart belonged to someone else."

She couldn't answer.

Because there was no excuse strong enough.

No explanation that could erase what had just happened.

"I tried," she whispered. "I really did…"

"I know," he interrupted gently.

That surprised everyone.

Even her.

He stepped closer, his expression softening—not because the pain was gone, but because he understood it now.

"You're not a bad person," he said. "You're just… in love with the wrong one."

Tears rolled down her cheeks as his words sank in.

"I didn't mean to hurt you," she said.

"I know," he replied again.

And this time, there was a faint, sad smile on his face.

"But you did."

The truth hung heavily in the air.

Raw.

Unavoidable.

He reached for her hand.

Not to hold it—

but to gently take the ring off her finger.

The moment felt unreal.

The symbol of their future…

being removed…

Like it had never truly belonged there.

The soft metallic sound of the ring sliding off echoed louder than it should have.

As if it marked the end of something that had barely begun.

He looked at it for a second.

Then closed his fist around it.

"You should go," he said quietly.

Her heart skipped a beat.

"What?"

"Go," he repeated, this time more firmly.

"Be with the person you actually love."

The room fell silent once again.

No one dared to speak.

No one dared to interrupt.

Because everyone knew—

this was not just a moment.

This was a life changing.

"You deserve to be happy," he added. "Even if that happiness isn't with me."

His voice didn't shake.

But his eyes…

His eyes told a different story.

They were filled with everything he wasn't saying.

The dreams he had built.

The future he had imagined.

The love he had hoped would grow.

All of it… gone.

"I'm sorry…" she whispered again.

But this time—

The words felt too small.

Too late.

He nodded slightly, accepting the apology without truly needing it.

Then, without another word—

He turned around.

And walked away.

Each step was calm.

Controlled.

But heavy.

As if he was carrying something invisible—

something that would stay with him long after this moment was over.

The doors closed behind him.

And just like that—

He was gone.

And with him—

An entire future disappeared.
