Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The Whispering Woods

The Northern Gate vanished behind a thick curtain of silver mist as Leonardo stepped into the Forbidden Forest. This wasn't a normal forest; the trees were ancient, their bark glowing with a faint, pulsing mana that felt like a heartbeat against the earth. Every step he took on the mossy ground released a small puff of glowing spores that illuminated the dark undergrowth.

Leonardo sat down near a bioluminescent stream to catch his breath. His body was still aching from the fight with the Shadow Assassins back at the palace. He pulled out the leather satchel Aurora had left for him and took out the strange, silver key. The key didn't have teeth; instead, it was a smooth crystal that pulsed in time with his own heartbeat.

As soon as his fingers touched it, the blue screen in front of him flickered violently.

[Item Identified: The Star-Gate Key] [Description: A relic from the Age of the Blue Moon. It can unlock hidden dimensions within the forest.]

"A hidden dimension?" Leonardo whispered.

Suddenly, the bushes behind him rustled. Leonardo didn't even look back. He drew his rusted blade, his Echo Vision already showing him the red trajectory of an incoming attack. He deflected a wooden spear with a sharp metallic clang.

A small creature, half-human and half-deer, stepped out of the shadows. It was a Dryad, her eyes wide with fear as she stared at Leonardo's glowing, rusted blade.

"The Hero's mark..." the creature gasped, her voice sounding like wind through dry leaves. "You... you are the one the stars predicted. The one who carries the Blue Screen."

[New Quest: The Dryad's Plea] [Objective: Follow the Dryad to the Elder Tree.] [Reward: Unlock 'Elemental Resonance' and 200 Exp.]

Leonardo looked at the key in his hand and then at the trembling Dryad. The King was behind him, and a whole new world of magic was opening up in front of him.

"Lead the way," Leonardo said, sheathing his sword. "I have a lot of questions, and I think your Elder Tree has the answers."
