Flora Bloom hadn't finished her sentence, but Lex Cross's single, resolute word, delivered with a determined look, greatly reassured her.
"But… if your fiancée dies, won't your family object?"
"When it comes to my life, no one makes the decisions but you."
"But isn't she your fiancée? You'd be okay with that?"
"I never acknowledged her as such. The old fogeys in my family arranged it to strengthen ties between our clans. You don't have to worry about me."
Flora Bloom blushed under Lex Cross's intense gaze. "What are you looking at me for? She's not one of us. Plus, she killed people on my Earth. How could I possibly let her get away with it?"
"Of course, of course. My Flora is always so principled. She would never let personal feelings lead her to do something irrational, would she?"
Lex Cross's words made Flora Bloom blush even harder. She steeled herself and glared at him with wide eyes. "You'd better believe it!"
