The Story of Prophet Yahya (A.S.) – Part Two
In the first part, we learned how Allah blessed Prophet Yahya (A.S.) as a miraculous gift to his father, Prophet Zakariya (A.S.). In this second part, we will explore his childhood, his عبادah (worship), his character, and how he called people toward the path of Allah.
A Unique Childhood
From a very young age, Prophet Yahya (A.S.) was different from other children. While most children were busy playing and enjoying worldly activities, he was deeply engaged in thinking about Allah and seeking knowledge.
Allah granted him wisdom (Hikmah) in his childhood. This means that even as a young boy, he could clearly distinguish between right and wrong. His understanding of religion and truth was far beyond his age.
It is reported that once some children invited him to play. But he replied:
"I have not been created for play."
This statement reflects his strong sense of purpose. From childhood, he understood that his life was dedicated to serving Allah and guiding people.
His Love for Worship
Prophet Yahya (A.S.) was extremely devoted to worship. He spent much of his time remembering Allah, praying, and reflecting deeply.
He would often weep out of fear and love for Allah. His heart was soft, and he was always conscious of Allah's presence. He stayed away from distractions and focused on building a strong relationship with his Creator.
He frequently stayed in places of worship, especially in Bayt al-Maqdis, where he studied the Torah and taught people about the truth.
He lived a very simple life. He avoided luxury and comfort, choosing instead a life of humility and عبادah. This shows us that true success is not in worldly pleasures, but in closeness to Allah.
Obedience to Parents
One of the most beautiful qualities of Prophet Yahya (A.S.) was his obedience and kindness to his parents. He showed great respect and love to his father, Prophet Zakariya (A.S.), and his mother.
The Qur'an praises him for being "dutiful to his parents" and never arrogant or disobedient.
In today's world, many children neglect or disrespect their parents. But Prophet Yahya (A.S.) teaches us that respecting our parents is an essential part of faith.
Staying Away from Sin
Prophet Yahya (A.S.) was known for his purity. He stayed away from all kinds of sins and encouraged others to do the same.
He controlled his desires and lived a disciplined life. He guarded his eyes, his tongue, and his actions.
He would advise people:
"Fear Allah, stay away from sins, and purify your lives."
His words touched people's hearts. Many turned back to Allah after listening to him.
Calling People to the Truth
As he grew older, Prophet Yahya (A.S.) began calling people toward the worship of one Allah (Tawheed). At that time, many people had gone astray and were following their desires instead of Allah's guidance.
He reminded them of their duties and warned them against wrongdoing. He encouraged them to return to righteousness.
What made him special was his courage. He did not hesitate to speak the truth, even if it was against powerful or influential people.
Firmness in the Path of Truth
Prophet Yahya (A.S.) was extremely firm when it came to truth. He never compromised his principles.
Whenever he saw injustice or wrongdoing, he spoke against it. He knew that standing for truth could bring difficulties, but he was ready to face any hardship for the sake of Allah.
This teaches us an important lesson: a true believer stands for what is right, no matter how difficult it is.
His Humility and Kindness
Despite his knowledge and status, Prophet Yahya (A.S.) was very humble. He never considered himself superior to others.
He treated people with kindness and compassion. He helped the poor and spoke gently to everyone.
He always reminded people:
"All honor belongs to Allah, and we are all His servants."
This humility made people love and respect him even more.
Relationship with Prophet Isa (A.S.)
Prophet Yahya (A.S.) lived during the same time as Prophet Isa (A.S.). Both of them were noble prophets who called people toward the same message—the worship of one Allah.
They supported each other in their mission and worked together to guide people.
Their unity teaches us that those who follow the truth always stand together.
