Chapter 3 - Flourished on Lantana Sap

Lohumi wanted to discover if the insect would attack other plants. In order to study the nature and habit of the insect, he distributed bug-infested twigs and leaves throughout a test area. For this work, he took the help of his students. He drew maps pinpointing where the bugs had been released. After three years' hard study he found that the insect ignored all other plants but flourished on lantana sap only. The weed died after three years. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research declared Lohumi's discovery as one of the greatest contributions to science.

Lohumi's success showed that determination and keen observation can lead to remarkable achievements. Though he had no formal scientific education, his curiosity and dedication helped him solve a serious problem affecting farmers. His work became an example for others, proving that even ordinary individuals can make extraordinary contributions. The use of natural methods to control harmful plants also highlighted the importance of protecting the environment. Lohumi's efforts were widely appreciated, and his story continues to inspire people to think creatively and work persistently.
