The dungeon became quieter the deeper they went.
Not the peaceful kind of quiet.
The kind of quiet that made every footstep sound too loud.
The kind that made people think too much.
Astra and the others regrouped in a narrow stone corridor after passing the Judgment Room. No one spoke for a while. Something had changed after that room. They were no longer just a temporary team trying to clear a dungeon.
Now they were a group of people who had seen each other make a life-and-death decision.
That changed things.
The man with glasses finally broke the silence. "We should introduce ourselves properly. If we're going to survive, we need to trust each other at least a little."
The spear user nodded. "Agreed."
"One by one," Astra said.
The spear user went first. "Name's Ronan Hale. Former soldier. I'm not the smartest here, but I don't panic in fights."
The dagger girl spoke next. "Mira Voss. Scout, thief, whatever you want to call it. I'm good at not dying."
The man with glasses adjusted them again. "Tobin Raal. Engineer. I handle mechanisms, traps, puzzles, systems… anything mechanical."
The large man with mechanical arms spoke in a deep, calm voice. "Dax Ironhand. Heavy combat. I break things."
Then they all looked at Astra.
"Astra Vale," she said simply. "Sword user."
Mira smirked slightly. "Yeah, we know. The famous hero."
Astra didn't react to that. She simply said, "Titles don't clear dungeons. Decisions do."
Kael, watching through the screens, quietly repeated that sentence to himself.
"Titles don't clear dungeons. Decisions do."
Then he pressed a button.
The corridor ahead of the challengers split again.
This time into three paths.
Above each path was written a single word:
LEFT — SPEED
MIDDLE — BALANCE
RIGHT — POWER
Mira groaned. "I hate this Architect already."
Tobin looked at the words carefully. "These are attribute paths. Each path probably tests a different type of ability."
Ronan asked, "Which one leads to the exit?"
Astra answered quietly, "All of them."
They looked at her.
She pointed at the words again. "Speed, Balance, Power. These are not directions. These are tests."
Dax crossed his arms. "So we choose what kind of test we take."
"No," Astra said. "We choose what kind of mistake we risk."
In the control room, Bronn let out a low whistle.
"She understands your design philosophy way too well," he said.
Kael didn't respond, but his eyes stayed on Astra's screen.
"Yes," he said quietly. "She does."
Inside the dungeon, the five of them discussed the options.
"Speed path probably has time limits or chasing traps," Tobin said.
"Power path probably has enemies or strength-based traps," Ronan added.
"And Balance?" Mira asked.
Astra looked at the middle path for a long time.
"Balance means control," she said. "Precision. Timing. Probably the hardest one."
Mira pointed to the Speed path. "That one fits me."
Dax pointed to Power. "That one fits me."
Tobin sighed. "I'm not fast or strong. So I guess I'm Balance."
Ronan looked at Astra. "And you?"
Astra looked at the three paths again.
Then she said something unexpected.
"We split up."
Everyone stared at her.
Mira frowned. "That's a terrible idea in a dungeon."
Astra shook her head. "This dungeon is not designed for five people to move together anymore. The tests are personal now."
Tobin looked nervous. "But what if someone dies alone?"
Astra looked at the three paths again and said quietly:
"Then we were not meant to clear it together."
Silence.
No one liked that answer.
But deep down, they all felt she was right.
This dungeon was slowly separating them.
Testing them individually.
Ronan finally nodded. "Alright. Then we choose paths that fit us."
Mira — Speed.
Dax — Power.
Tobin — Balance.
That left Ronan and Astra.
Ronan looked at the middle path. "Balance is probably the most important. The leader should take that path."
Astra shook her head. "No. The leader takes the path with the highest chance of death."
She looked at the Power path.
"I'll take Power."
Dax frowned. "That's my path."
Astra looked at him. "You're strong enough to survive Speed. I need to see what the Architect considers 'Power.'"
Mira laughed slightly. "You're trying to understand the guy who built this place."
"Yes," Astra said.
"Why?" Mira asked.
Astra answered:
"Because if I understand him… I can predict the dungeon."
In the control room, Kael leaned forward slightly.
For the first time, he looked genuinely interested.
"She's not trying to beat the dungeon," Bronn said slowly.
Kael finished the sentence.
"She's trying to understand the Architect."
Kael pressed the button that locked the paths behind them once they entered.
"Good," he said quietly.
"Then let's talk."
Ronan — The Path of Balance
Ronan entered a long room filled with moving platforms over a deep dark pit. Thin beams of stone moved left and right, up and down, in complex patterns.
One wrong step meant falling into darkness.
Ronan took a deep breath.
"Alright," he muttered. "Slow and steady."
Then a message appeared on the wall:
"Balance is not about standing still."
"It is about moving without falling."
The platforms began moving faster.
Mira — The Path of Speed
The moment Mira entered, a loud horn echoed behind her.
She turned around.
A massive metal wall was rushing toward her, crushing everything in its path.
"Yep," she said. "Definitely Speed."
She started running.
Blades swung from the walls. Arrows fired from hidden holes. The floor collapsed in sections.
Mira smiled while running.
"This Architect is insane."
Tobin — The Path of Balance (Puzzle Room)
Tobin entered a room full of gears, rotating rings, and floating platforms with symbols on them.
In the center was a locked door with five rotating symbol slots.
On the wall:
"Power breaks."
"Speed misses."
"Balance understands."
Tobin adjusted his glasses.
"Oh… this one is mine."
Dax — The Path of Speed (Changed Path)
Dax entered expecting enemies.
Instead, the floor lit up in squares.
A voice said:
"Step only on the correct path."
Then the wrong tiles exploded.
Dax looked down at the floor, then sighed.
"…I preferred enemies."
Astra — The Path of Power
Astra entered a large, circular arena.
Empty.
Silent.
Then the door behind her closed.
And a message appeared in front of her:
"Power is not the ability to destroy."
"Power is the ability to choose."
Then three weapons rose from the ground in front of her:
A sword.
A bow.
And a lever.
Astra looked at them carefully.
The message changed:
"Choose one."
She walked to the sword.
Stopped.
Walked to the bow.
Stopped.
Then she walked to the lever.
She stared at it for a long time.
Then she smiled very slightly.
And pulled the lever.
In the control room, Bronn looked confused.
"…What does the lever do?"
Kael answered:
"It doesn't give her power."
On the screen, the arena walls opened, revealing something shocking.
The other four challengers appeared on screens around Astra.
They were all in danger in their own paths.
Ronan was about to fall.
Mira was about to be crushed.
Dax was trapped between explosive tiles.
Tobin's puzzle room was filling with water.
Bronn's eyes widened. "You're making her choose who to save?!"
Kael shook his head.
"No," he said.
"I'm showing her what power really is."
On the screen, a final message appeared in front of Astra:
"You can save only one."
Silence filled the control room.
Bronn looked at Kael. "…That's cruel."
Kael watched Astra's face carefully.
"No," he said quietly.
"This is the price of being a hero."
Astra looked at the four screens.
Four people.
Four lives.
One choice.
She closed her eyes.
And for the first time in the dungeon…
She hesitated.
And Kael Veyron watched very, very carefully.
Because this decision…
Would tell him everything.
