Chapter 12 - surprise the village with a boar

The boar's heavy body left a trail of blood on the dirt path as Luo Feng and Kael stepped out of the trees. The two village guards at the gate saw them coming and rushed forward, eyes wide. Without a word they grabbed the back legs and helped carry the massive C-rank beast into the center of Eden Village, laying it down gently beside the well where everyone could see.

Word spread faster than fire. Men, women, children, and elders poured out of their huts, gathering in a wide circle around the dead boar. Gasps and whispers filled the air. Chief Haru pushed through the crowd, leaning on his walking stick, his tired eyes growing huge.

"Kael!" the chief called. "What in the world… how did you two bring back a C-rank Big Wild Boar? That thing could have killed a whole hunting party!"

Kael stood tall beside Luo Feng, chest puffed with pride for the first time in years. He pointed at the quiet traveler. "It was Luo Feng, Father. He tracked it, climbed a tree, and killed it with one strike. I didn't even lift my spear. He did it alone."

The villagers murmured in awe, staring at the young man in simple clothes who looked no older than eighteen. Luo Feng bowed his head humbly and spoke in his calm, steady voice.

"Village Chief," he said, "let's cook the boar right now. Let everyone eat until they are full. After that, the remaining uncooked meat can be divided amongst the people so no one goes hungry for many days."

For a heartbeat the square was silent. Then Chief Haru's eyes filled with tears. He dropped to one knee, and every villager followed—two hundred souls bowing low before the stranger who had already given them two nights of fish and now a mountain of meat.

"Thank you, Luo Feng," the chief said, voice thick. "From the bottom of our hearts… thank you."

The village exploded into joyful motion. Women and elders began carving the boar with every knife and stone they owned. Children ran to gather firewood. Men built a huge bonfire in the open square, flames leaping high into the evening sky. The smell of roasting meat soon drifted everywhere—rich, fatty, mouth-watering. Laughter and singing rose with the smoke. People who had eaten nothing but grass for months danced around the fire in happy circles, clapping and stomping to the rhythm of old village songs.

Miya stood near the fire, helping turn the spits, but her eyes kept drifting to Luo Feng. She watched the way he quietly helped carry wood, the gentle smile on his handsome young face, the quiet strength in every movement. Her heart beat faster. He is kind… and strong… and he looks at us like we matter. A warm blush spread across her cheeks. She had fallen in love.

Luo Feng felt her gaze. He turned and looked straight at her across the flames. The firelight danced on her long black hair and bright eyes. She is beautiful, he thought, the same quiet warmth he once felt for his wife back in Churachandpur blooming again in his chest. Her smile… it feels like home. He fell for her charm right there, simple and deep, without a single word.

Chief Haru noticed the two of them staring at each other. A small, knowing smile touched his lips, but he said nothing.

When the meat was ready, the entire village ate together under the stars. They feasted until their bellies were round and happy, grease shining on every chin. Children laughed with full mouths. Elders wept with joy. After everyone had eaten their fill, the remaining uncooked portions were carefully divided—each family receiving enough to last many days.

The bonfire slowly died to glowing coals. The dancing slowed. One by one, people began walking home, bellies full, hearts lighter than they had been in years.

Miya waited until the square was almost empty. Then she walked straight up to Luo Feng, her face glowing in the firelight. Without warning she rose on her toes, kissed him softly on the cheek, and whispered, "Thank you… for everything." Her cheeks burned bright red. She covered her face with both hands, turned, and ran back toward her father's hut as fast as her legs could carry her.

Luo Feng touched the spot on his cheek, a gentle smile on his lips, his heart strangely full.

That night the whole village slept soundly with full bellies for the first time in years. Inside Chief Haru's hut, Luo Feng lay on his mat, listening to the quiet breathing of the family around him. Outside, the fields waited under moonlight, still struggling, but now there was hope.

And somewhere in the quiet dark, the unblessed traveler from another world felt two new things growing inside him: love for a village girl named Miya… and the quiet decision to stay a little longer and make this place better.
