Jayjay's POV
After a while of silence, Keifer said, "You should sleep now, Jay. It's getting late."
I hesitated, my grip on the phone tightening. "Don't leave. Will you stay with me on the call?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. I didn't want to be alone with my thoughts, not tonight.
Keifer's voice was gentle. "I'll stay, Jay. I'll stay as long as you need me to."
I nodded, even though he couldn't see me. "Okay," I whispered, feeling a tiny bit of tension ease out of my shoulders. We lapsed into silence again, but it was a comfortable one. Keifer's quiet presence was a reassurance that I wasn't alone in the dark.
I settled into the silence, letting my eyelids droop a little. Keifer's occasional soft breaths on the other end of the line were like a lullaby, slowly coaxing me towards sleep... 😴
My breathing slowed, and I felt myself drifting off, Keifer's presence a steady anchor in the darkness. The sounds of his quiet breathing, the occasional rustle of fabric, they all blended into a soothing melody that lulled me into a dreamless sleep.
Keifer's gentle voice whispered in my ear, "Sleep tight, Jay. I'm here." His words were the last thing I heard before I succumbed to the exhaustion that had been weighing me down.
As I slept, my mind began to wander, fragments of memories flickering like fireflies in the darkness. I saw myself as a little girl maybe 10 or 9 years old, laughing and carefree, chasing after butterflies in a sun-drenched field. But the sky darkened, and the laughter turned to tears. I tried to grasp the memories, to hold onto them, but they slipped through my fingers like sand.
Keifer's voice was a distant hum, a reminder that I wasn't alone, even in my dreams. The darkness began to recede, and I felt myself being pulled back to the surface, towards the light.
I stirred, my eyelids fluttering open. Keifer's voice was still there, whispering something in my ear. "Jay, wake up, baby. You were having a bad dream."
I blinked, disoriented, my heart still racing from the remnants of the nightmare. Keifer's voice was a gentle anchor, pulling me back to reality. "I'm here, Jay. You're safe." 😊
My breathing was uneven as I slowly came to, the remnants of the nightmare still clinging to me like a damp shroud. Keifer's voice was a gentle anchor, pulling me back to reality. "I'm here, Jay. You're safe."
I blinked, my eyes adjusting to the dim light of my room. Keifer's voice was a warm presence in my ear, soothing the jagged edges of my fear. "Just breathe, Jay. I'm here."
I took a shaky breath, feeling my heart slow its frantic pace. The nightmare was already fading, leaving behind a residue of unease. I tried to shake it off, focusing on Keifer's voice, his words, his presence.
"Hey," I whispered, my voice barely audible.
"Hey," he replied, his tone soft. "You okay?"
I nodded, even though he couldn't see me. "Yeah...just a bad dream."
Keifer's silence was understanding. "Want to talk about it?"
"I...I...I saw myself," I stammered, my voice cracking under the weight of the memories. "I saw myself as a kid, happy, playing in a garden. But...but it changed. The sky turned dark, and...and I was scared. I felt someone's hands all over me."
My body tensed, the memory sending a shiver down my spine. Keifer's voice was a sharp intake of breath. "Jay..."
I swallowed hard, my heart racing. "I...I don't know who it was. I don't know what happened. But the feeling...it was so real. Like it was happening all over again."
The words spilled out of me, raw and unfiltered. Keifer's silence was heavy, but it was a supportive silence, one that told me he was there, listening, and he wasn't going anywhere. "I'm here, Jay," he said finally, his voice low and soothing. "You're safe now. You're with me."
"y...yo...you didn't sleep, why?" I asked, my voice still shaking slightly from the remnants of the nightmare.
Keifer's voice was a gentle rumble. "I couldn't sleep, Jay. I was worried about you. You were having a bad dream."
I felt a flutter in my chest at his words. "You...you shouldn't have stayed up for me."
Keifer's tone was soft. "I wanted to, Jay. I wanted to be here for you. I wanted to protect you from your nightmares, so I couldn't sleep even if I tried to."
His words sent a warmth spreading through me, and for a moment, I forgot about the fear and the darkness. All I felt was Keifer's presence, his concern, and his care for me.
(*The next morning*)
The next morning, I woke up to the sound of my alarm blaring in my ear. I groggily reached out to turn it off, and that's when I felt the weight of Keifer's words from last night still lingering in my mind.
As I sat up, a faint smile played on my lips. Keifer had stayed up all night, watching over me, protecting me from my nightmares. I couldn't help but feel a little touched by that 😊.
I reached for my phone, and my heart skipped a beat when I saw a message from Keifer:
"Morning, Jay. How are you feeling today?"
I smiled, feeling a warmth spread through me. I typed out a response:
"Hey. I'm okay, thanks to you. You should've slept, though 😅."
Keifer's response came a few seconds later:
"Couldn't. Had to make sure you were okay. 😊"
I bit my lip, feeling a flutter in my chest. What was happening? Why was Keifer being so... sweet?
Just then, my phone rang. Keifer's name flashed on the screen. I hesitated for a moment before answering. "Hey," I said, trying to sound casual.
"Hey," Keifer replied, his voice low and smooth. "How's your morning going?"
"Perfect, since I talked to you right after I woke up, hearing your voice before even getting up from the bed is the best thing ever" I said
Keifer's chuckle was low and husky. "Sounds like I'm the highlight of your morning 😊."
I felt my cheeks heat up, realizing what I'd said. "No, no, that's not what I meant!" I laughed awkwardly, trying to backpedal.
Keifer's voice was teasing. "Oh? So it's not the best thing ever to hear my voice first thing in the morning?"
I groaned, facepalming. "Keifer, stop it."
He laughed again, the sound sending a shiver down my spine. "I'm just messing with you, Jay. But seriously, I'm glad I could be the first thing on your mind today."
I smiled
Keifer's teasing tone softened. "You smiled, didn't you?"
I bit my lip, feeling a little self-conscious. "Maybe 😊."
Keifer's voice was low and pleased. "I like being the one to make you smile, Jay."
I groaned, "Why do we even have to go to school everyday... Ugh."
Keifer chuckled, the sound low and warm. "You haven't checked the notice yet, did you?" His tone was playful, like he was holding a secret.
I paused, curiosity piqued. "What notice?"
Keifer's voice was gleeful. "It's a holiday today!!!"
My groan turned into a laugh. "Seriously?!"
Keifer's chuckle was infectious. "Dead serious! The notice was up this morning. Exams are over, and we're officially on break!"
I let out a whoop, feeling a sudden rush of freedom. "Yes! That means we have the day off!"
Keifer's voice was amused. "And you wanted to go to school..."
I laughed, feeling silly. "Shut up, I didn't know!"
Keifer's tone turned suggestive. "So... now that we have the day off, want to do something?"
My mind started racing with possibilities. "Like what?"
Keifer's tone was playful. "Like going out, grabbing food, watching a movie... whatever you want."
I hesitated for a split second before responding, "Sounds like a plan 😊."
"Let me just check with kuya angelo" i say
Keifer's voice was understanding. "Sure, go ahead and check with Angelo."
I typed out a quick message to kuya Angelo, my thumbs flying across the keyboard. Keifer waited patiently on the line.
A few seconds later, kuya replied with a simple "Okay, be safe".
I smiled, feeling a sense of relief. "Kuya Angelo says it's okay," I told Keifer.
Keifer's tone was pleased. "Alright then. Pick you up in an hour?"
I smile and say
"Alright, its a date"
And hear keifer's deep chuckle before hanging up the call
