Chapter 8 - Breaking the Pattern

The ground trembled beneath Kyle's feet as the conscious Titan moved again.

Faster this time.

Not testing.

Not observing.

Attacking.

Kyle's eyes sharpened.

Predictive Movement activated instantly—

but something was wrong.

The lines… were unstable.

Shifting.

Changing mid-motion.

— "He's… adapting?" Kyle whispered.

The Titan's hand came down like a falling wall.

Kyle rolled to the side—barely escaping.

The impact shattered the ground, sending debris flying in every direction.

A sharp pain shot through his injured shoulder.

— "Tch… still not healed."

[Injury Status: Active – Performance reduced]

Kyle gritted his teeth.

He didn't have the luxury to slow down.

The Titan tilted its head, watching him closely.

— "You're learning…" it said calmly.

— "But so am I."

Kyle froze for half a second.

That was the problem.

This wasn't a normal enemy.

It wasn't repeating patterns like the others.

It was evolving—

just like him.

[36:42…]

The timer kept ticking.

Kyle exhaled slowly.

— "Alright…" he muttered, tightening his grip on the dagger.

— "Then I'll break the pattern first."

He moved.

But not forward.

Not backward.

Sideways.

An unnatural angle.

A movement that didn't exist in his previous attempts.

The Titan's eyes narrowed slightly.

For the first time—

It hesitated.

Kyle saw it.

— "Got you."

He dashed forward immediately.

Predictive Movement flared again—

this time, new paths appeared.

Not fixed lines…

Branches.

Multiple futures unfolding at once.

— "So this is… the hidden path?"

The Titan swung again—

Kyle didn't dodge.

He stepped into the attack.

The world slowed.

His body twisted just enough—

the Titan's arm brushed past him instead of crushing him.

Kyle used the momentum.

Jumped.

Grabbed onto the Titan's arm.

— "Now!"

He climbed.

Fast.

Too fast for a normal human.

The system reacted instantly:

[Warning: Physical limit exceeded]

[Condition: Strain increasing]

— "I don't care!" Kyle growled.

The Titan reacted—

its other hand rushed to grab him.

Kyle shifted direction mid-climb.

Unpredictable.

Erratic.

Alive.

The Titan's movement slowed—just slightly.

Not physically.

Mentally.

It was trying to predict him… and failing.

— "That's it…" Kyle whispered.

— "You're not afraid of strength…"

He jumped again—higher.

— "You're afraid of the unknown."

He reached the shoulder.

The nape—

Right there.

The kill point.

His dagger tightened in his grip.

Everything slowed.

The world.

The sound.

Even his own heartbeat.

[Critical Moment Detected]

[Action will affect timeline stability]

Kyle hesitated.

Just for a second.

And that second…

Changed everything.

The Titan turned its head.

Their eyes met.

Up close.

Too close.

And then—

It smiled.

Not a monster's smile.

A knowing one.

— "So… you've reached this point already."

Kyle's breath caught.

— "Already…?"

Suddenly—

The world cracked.

Like glass.

A soundless fracture spreading through reality itself.

Kyle's body froze mid-air.

He couldn't move.

Not even a finger.

[Violation Detected]

[Hidden Rule Activated]

The first voice screamed:

— "Stop! Don't let him—!"

The second voice laughed:

— "Too late."

The Titan spoke again—softly this time:

— "If you kill me now…"

Its eyes glowed faintly.

— "You will never learn the truth."

Kyle's mind raced.

Kill → survive?

Or… something worse?

Don't kill → risk death?

The dagger trembled in his hand.

His instincts screamed one thing.

The system warned another.

And the Titan…

Offered something else entirely.

— "Choose, Kyle."

[32:10…]

Time resumed.

Violently.

The pressure returned.

The fall began.

And Kyle…

Made his decision.
