Chapter 3 - Reunion Under Strange Skies

The silence lingered.

Heavy. Unanswered.

"…This isn't Earth."

Kai's words hung in the air, refusing to fade.

Rion let out a dry laugh but there was no humor in it.

"Yeah. Funny joke."

No one smiled.

Lira slowly pushed herself to her feet, brushing dirt from her clothes. Her movements were unsteady, like her body hadn't fully caught up to reality yet.

"…This doesn't feel like Earth," she said quietly.

Kai didn't respond.

Because she was right.

Rion stood next, wincing slightly as he rolled his shoulder. "Okay… okay, let's think about this." He ran a hand through his hair, pacing a few steps. "Plane crash. We black out. Then we wake up here."

He gestured around.

"No fire. No wreckage. No people. Nothing."

His voice tightened.

"That doesn't make sense."

"It doesn't," Kai agreed.

Lira looked between them, her brows furrowed. "What about the others? The passengers… the crew…"

Silence.

Kai's jaw tightened slightly.

"We haven't seen anyone."

"That doesn't mean they're not here," Lira said quickly, almost too quickly. "Right? Maybe… maybe they're somewhere else in the forest."

Rion crossed his arms. "Or maybe we're the only ones."

"Rion"

"I'm just saying what we're all thinking."

Lira looked down, her hands clenching again.

Kai stepped in.

"Enough."

His voice was calm but firm.

"We don't know anything yet. So we don't assume the worst."

Rion exhaled sharply but didn't argue.

For a moment, none of them spoke.

The forest filled the silence.

A faint breeze moved through the trees, carrying with it that same strange, almost whisper-like sound.

Lira glanced around again, slower this time.

"…Do you hear that?"

Kai tilted his head slightly.

"…Yeah."

Rion frowned. "Hear what?"

"It's like…" Lira hesitated. "Like something's there… but not really."

Rion gave her a look. "That doesn't help."

But Kai understood.

It wasn't a sound.

Not exactly.

It was more like… a feeling.

Something in the air.

Watching.

Waiting.

He shook it off.

"We need to focus."

He turned slightly, gesturing to their surroundings.

"First, we figure out where we are. Then we look for water, food, and any signs of people."

Rion raised an eyebrow. "You're already making a survival plan?"

Kai met his gaze.

"What's your plan?"

"…Fair point."

Lira let out a small breath, steadying herself.

"Together," she said softly. "We stay together."

Kai nodded immediately. "Always."

Rion hesitated for a second then gave a short nod. "Yeah. Together."

The tension eased just slightly.

But not enough.

Because the questions were still there.

And the answers… weren't.

Rion glanced around again, his expression sharpening.

"…You know what's really bothering me?"

Kai didn't look at him. "What?"

"There's nothing here."

Kai frowned. "What do you mean?"

"I mean nothing." Rion gestured wider this time. "No broken trees. No impact marks. No sign that a plane just fell out of the sky."

Lira's eyes widened slightly.

"…You're right."

Kai's expression darkened.

He had noticed it too.

If they had crashed

There should've been destruction.

A crater.

Fire.

Something.

But the forest was… untouched.

Perfect.

As if nothing had ever happened.

"…It's like we were placed here," Lira whispered.

The words settled uneasily between them.

Placed.

Not fallen.

Not crashed.

Placed.

Kai clenched his fist slightly.

That feeling returned.

The one from the plane.

That silence.

That glow.

"…No," he said quietly. "Not like."

They both looked at him.

Kai's gaze drifted toward the sky, barely visible through the dense canopy.

"…We were."

A cold realization sank in.

Rion scoffed lightly, but it sounded forced. "Yeah? By who?"

No answer.

Because none of them knew.

And that was the worst part.

A low rumble echoed in the distance.

All three froze.

"…You heard that, right?" Rion said.

"Yeah," Kai replied.

It came again.

Deeper this time.

Not thunder.

Not quite.

Something alive.

Lira instinctively stepped closer to Kai.

"…We're not alone."

Kai nodded slowly.

"Which means standing around isn't an option anymore."

Rion cracked his knuckles, forcing confidence back into his posture. "Finally. Something I can agree with."

Kai glanced at both of them.

One last time.

Checking.

Making sure.

They were here.

Alive.

Together.

"…We move carefully," he said. "Stay close. No unnecessary risks."

Rion smirked faintly. "That's definitely aimed at me."

"It should be."

Lira almost smiled but it didn't quite reach her eyes.

Kai turned toward the deeper part of the forest.

The direction that felt… different.

Not safer.

Not easier.

But right.

"…This way."

Rion raised an eyebrow. "You sure?"

"No," Kai answered honestly.

Then he took a step forward.

"…But standing still won't get us anywhere."

A pause.

Then

Rion followed.

"Yeah… I guess we don't have much choice."

Lira hesitated for just a second

Then moved after them.

The forest seemed to shift as they walked.

Not visibly.

But subtly.

As if it was reacting to their presence.

Watching them.

Guiding them.

Or perhaps

Waiting for them.

Above, the strange sky remained silent.

Unmoving.

Unfamiliar.

And far beyond their sight

Something watched.

Unseen.

Unheard.

But aware.

Three siblings.

Lost in a world that wasn't theirs.

Taking their first steps into the unknown.
